Alright besties. We're moving again. After a long long time of wading and wallowing in a lake of indeceison, my ass has been whooped into shape and some meaningful progress has been made with the team. We finally decided on a map area! 1:1 maps are hard but composite maps are hard too. After flip flopping between a dozen different ideas since the thread began, we finally decided to create a fictionalized, scaled, representation of the northeast section of Harlem, centering around the NYPD's 25th Precinct. By finally finding an area to focus on, we've unjammed the creative block we've all been suffering by trying to focus on so much to make. Now, we have specific, clear goals for what we're including, and with that we can move forward at an accelerated pace. So, to contradict my previous statement, expect some more screenshots and overall a lot more activity on the thread.3 points

It's a shame that so many projects just went to waste. I agree it can be time consuming, but they could have released a half finished project over say GitHub where members like myself could contribute patches and such over time or help further development in some way. Like the original NY mod. They showed screenshots and such for ages and it never saw a release.2 points
-
The mod is done. It just needs bug fixes and it's been over a year. No disrespect to any modders here but they killed this community by not releasing projects and giving false hope. Had the modders released projects, or at least issued bug fixes in this case, people would have had a reason to stick around. Instead we have things like the NY Mod that was teased for like 10 years and never saw the light of day. Even if it does get released tomorrow, it will never see the audience it would have seen.2 points
-
Quite a bit! I'm just terribly shy and I don't like to share my work until I'm totally confident in it's quality/"done"-ness. With that being said, I've stepped away from this project for a time to focus more on my collaborative project Project NYStalgia.2 points

Glad to see someone still working around this place. Looks good.2 points

Oh trust me, I get the growing up part. I don't have the free time I once did. However, the few remaining projects tend to have like 5 very accomplished devs working in Collab. They post an update once in a blue moon basically just to tease us of projects that will just waste away and never get to be enjoyed by the actual community. Hell I bet we see GTA6 released before we even see just a bug fix patch for Montana Mod 2.5 2.5 years after the release of 2.5(not the original although that would be nice too). How was the core fanbase alienated? I'd say we are the main ones breathing life support in to this forum. And yes forums have being more and more obsolete but check out some of the GTA mod forums. More then alive and well. Even some of the Sim City communities or Cities XL forums are absolutely thriving still.2 points

Anyone interested in a Montana submod/upgrade package? I’ve put together an update with the following changes: Replaced MPFD tanker with a volunteer ambulance. Removed BCSO/MHP/BCAS units from spawning on map at the onset of the game. They’re still playable from off-map. MPFD Engine now deploys with 4 volunteers instead of 2 to compensate for the loss of the tanker. Volunteers can deploy at any time, regardless of night. Volunteers can “run shift” by staffing apparatus without a call present. They arrive to the station non-emergency, change into their gear and occupy the truck until a call pops off. When sent back to the station, they stay on duty until dismissed. This feature is best used on the ambulance so medical response times aren’t too slow. Entirely new fleet of MPPD vehicles. Officers no longer need a second officer to search an arrested suspect before placing in a vehicle. The MPFD firefighters can now use the oil binder/broom directly from their engine. No need to call county to every wreck. Numerous minor bug fixes for stability. Still pending: Multiple callouts can run at one time. Still testing this. Of note, I'm not sure what the intricacies of releasing something like this are. But, alas, I'm here to discuss it!1 point

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue where my image frame isn't centered. Is there a way to re-align it? I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks!1 point

Somewhat recently, I've had an issue where a few of the textures in some mods (I've only really checked Wegberg, Fuchsburg, and Kieslingen) are white; I didn't have this problem when I first installed them. It's only a couple textures, for example the foam canisters and streetlights in Wegberg, the engineer in Kieslingen, and the Fürstenberg trailer and the tires of some ambulances in Fuchsburg. I've tried both verifying the installation of, and uninstalling and reinstalling both Wegberg and EM4, but neither worked. The only thing that worked was a complete reinstall of Windows, but now I'm having the same issue, and I'd really prefer to not have to do that again, at least not without finding out why this is even happening. I'm 99% sure it's not a graphics driver issue. The only thing I can think of that could have done this is editing some of Fuchsburg's textures in Paint.NET (just fixing mirrored text on one or two vehicles and replacing any Bieberfelde license plates with Fuchsburg ones, that sort of thing), but I didn't touch anything in Wegberg, so I'm really not sure what the problem is. None of the textures I have edited are the ones that look like this in the game. It might be worth noting that when I uninstalled and reinstalled EM4, I didn't restart the computer after uninstalling. Don't know if that matters. I did make sure to permanently delete the EM4 folder though, I didn't only hit "uninstall" in Steam.1 point

At this point, EMP might as well officially be dead. For years we were teased this or that mod or update was coming. At this point, about the last thing I can find is em-c Miami Mod advertised new models around Christmas. Almost 5 month later, still no release. Not to mention the year or two of advertised new models or whatever that have yet to be released like every other mod that seemed to be one last breath of fresh air. The modding community seems officially dead at this point.1 point

No. I'm fully commited to retro and anything modern will probably be something for the 2030s, when "modern" becomes retro eventually.1 point

Hello, its been awhile, as some of you may know, a few years back, (2-3 I don't remember) I did an English translation of the RTS mod. Here is another update for it, I'd say its almost 99.9% perfect. If you find anything that needs fixed please email me at BrianD90@live.com or message me on here. Also, I may add a drug guide in the next version. Thank you. EDIT 11/09/2012 v1.8 has been uploaded, please re download. The only things I cannot to find to translate is the text that scrolls in the top when someone dies reporting the time of death and after you take someone to the hospital when it shows what you've done right or wrong across the top, anyone know where I can find this text? Once I find this text, I'll find and correct any remaining errors and release a final version (2.0) I'll include a drug guide with the final version if it has enough support so please let me know!!! Also, if I can get permission from the RTS team I may also replace the default ambulances and fly car with American units, and as to not represent a single US city, I may just go with a nationwide private service skin. Thoughts? RTS Bieberfelde English Translation v1.8.rar1 point

Surprise, It's still going! Since my last development photo I built a new computer at the start of 2022 which didn't have a drive to install the disk version of EM4 so it was only until recently I bought an external one to install it. I come back with a shot from the map which shows an electricity substation along with a construction site behind and more New York housing.1 point

Hi everyone, It's been brought to our attention that our CAPTCHA is not working properly and it's preventing new registrations. I'm trying to get the CAPTCHA error resolves, but at this time, despite looking like it's working, the back end isn't working right and is not authorizing new registrations. My understanding is registration with your Discord account is still working. If you do not have an account for here (or have since forgot the login details) you can complete the form below to request assistance and your request will be processed in order of submission. newfoundking. I can still be contacted on discord, however won't be providing creations/resets without using this form first.1 point

I agree with you, simple heads up about upcoming doom could contribute to saving up the webdisc and other gems. It will be hard to blame the forum owners, but imho people would fund the hosting if it would be requested. (i would contribute too) I dobut it would work, i have some URL saved in my browser, and links don't work.1 point

They should have at least announced it, so people can make backups of the mods and assets. This is just unacceptable; everything is lost! I'm absolutely heartbroken right now. I was part of the community for over ten years, and seeing it disappear from one day to the next makes me extremely sad.1 point

The shutdown of that forum was inevitable especially with the state of the Emergency series with it already being a dead corpse and just continued decaying of it. The lack of newer players and Sixteen Ton's questionable way of making games by literally re releasing Emergency 5 over and over again with the "newest" game being just a literal port of Emergency HQ. Lets hope that Emergency Planet's end of the road isn't too soon with other forums too.1 point

This error comes from the LA mod. I do not know how to fix it, nor is it a priority of mine to fix it. I personally have never used the feature, so it is not on my radar. I woke up this morning and suddenly remembered I forgot to share anything I've done. oops. I'll start posting the backlog. Stating with these edits of Itchboy's Ecto-One from a few years ago. Itchboy is to be credited here for everything except the skin and the small edits. In the future, I hope to show off more content made specifically for this mod1 point

As Emergency gets older, newer games are coming out that allow players to play in emergency services. While we still will feature Emergency games and Firefighter Simulator: The Squad, I want to introduce Into the Flames. Available on steam, Into the Flames is a solo or multiplayer co-op game that focuses on the first person role of a firefighter. From selecting and driving multiple fire vehicles, to breaching, extinguishing and firefighting, the game is in alpha and providing regular updates. Recently they announced they would be releasing full modding support using Unreal Engine 4's SDK and will be releasing this soon. As a community built on mods for Emergency games, this seemed like a natural fit for us. The team from Into the Flames will be posting updates on modding and release contests in the main forum, however we look forward to seeing some of the mods that will come out of our community!1 point

Hello everyone! I've been trying to figure out all the keyboard shortcuts for EM4/911, yet have not found a complete list. So after searching for a while, I decided to just make this thread. The only shortcuts I know of are the ones mentioned in the FAQ. You can CLICK HERE to visit the FAQ thread. Basically these are the ones: If you know of any other shortcuts, please reply to this thread with the information. Thank you!1 point

Because it's one of the most asked questions on the forum I made a list of what files have to be changed when you want to replace a vehicle in one of the fire stations. This includes changing the command to call it from the fire station. It's impossible to explain every detail in the script, so some scripting knowledge might be handy. It's NOT adviced to make any changes to the (bays of the) engine's and ambulances, because they have a far more advanced script logic. Patience is required to do this. Lets say you want to replace the USAR squad with the Watertender, because they have about the same size and only one of them can be parked in the bay. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Files which are necessary to change: LAFireStationStart.script (to spawn the vehicle at start) LAFireStation.script (for crew and gate information at fire station) LAToFireStation.script (park command) LABattalionChief.script (call command) Other: Adding the "Go to fire station" command to the new vehicle Removing the "Go to fire station" command to the replaced vehicle ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LAFireStationStart.script First thing you can try is to let it spawn at the right spot with crew when you start a new game. LAFireStationStart.script does nothing more than that. Some analizing of LAFireStationStart.script reveals that the prototype of the USAR squad is mentioned in line 23. Changing that prototype to any other prototype is enough to spawn another object. in this case "water_tender.e4p". You don't need to change the constants or anything else. Same thing counts for other things explained later. When you further look for USAR, you should eventually find line 230 which should say ActorList l12 = Game::GetActors(VO_USAR); The lines below are important. They set number of passengers (and sometimes transports), speed and the crew that enters the vehicle at start. Notice the numer that is used in the crew line. The code of that line refers to another script and calls a single unit for that vehicle. The numbers refer to the certain unit (USAR firefighter in this case). List of possible units: 1 = FF/PM with case 2 = FF/PM's with stretcher 3 = FF/EMT 4 = Battalion Chief 5 = FF HAZMAT 6 = USAR FF 7 = FF/EMT's with stretcher ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Important tips: You can do millions of things with C++, it's impossible to explain everything, just compare your code with other codes in the scripts. For example: When you want to add 4 firefighters instead of 2 just look at other parts in the script. Besides that, testing is very important. If you fail first time, please try it again before going to the forum. And remember kids, it's like sex, you don't immediatly run to mommy and daddy when you can't get it up at your first date. That's it for now. I hope most people understand this. When I have more time I will see if I can explain the other scripts.1 point
-
Units xml has nothing to do with any of the custom equipment found in mods. You need to edit the script files. They contain the list of units that have the barricades. The scripts for ballistic shields, guns, and traffic cones also operate on the same logic.1 point

I've always been a big fan of video tutorials. Perhaps it's just the way I'm wired, but I learn best by watching others, and I feel like I'm not alone. I've been considering making a series of tutorial videos on various aspects of mod making. If I was to throw a series together, what sort of tutorials would you like to see? Published Videos Quick Tips - Short videos that share tips and tricks to make modding a little bit easier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gdwgl1obnqk - Quick Tip #1 - Make your editor Run As Administrator Essential Modding Skills Tutorials - A set for full length tutorials showing you step-by-step (and mostly unabridged) how to perform the most basic tasks needed to create a mod from scratch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6p5XtcG9Vc - Adding Vehicles Part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7iYkwc_57M - Adding Vehicles Part 2 Why am I doing all this? Well it took me 2 years of messing around to become (self-proclaimed) proficient at mod making. In this day and age, there seems to be a serious stagnation in creativity in the EM4 community. The reason, I believe, is partially because of the steep learning curve required to create new custom content. With these videos I hope to give people the tools to think outside the box and create something NEW for Emergency 4. LA Submods are cool and all, but I think we can make something better.... What harm can come from providing a collection of knowledge in a quick easy to digest format? None that I can see.1 point

Something we as a staff have been noticing as a problem lately is that signatures have been going rampant in size. I have a fairly large monitor, and just then, reading through a post, I encountered a signature that took up my entire screen. We are looking at changes in the future, but for now, the rules still stand. Basically, what we're looking at, ins't a pixel count, so it's exactly 600x289 pixels or whatever, since that's really a pain and unrealistic at this time. The maximum size we're considering acceptable for now falls in one of these categories Signatures roughly this size: This is acceptable with up two two lines of regular sized text, or one line of large sized text. That doesn't mean you can use the largest size the board will support either. If you want to use TWO signature banners similar to mine, that is acceptable, but again, the maximum size we're looking at is that plus two lines of regular text, or one of stylize, or larger text. The maximum size is 250kb, that doesn't mean you can upload a little tiny picture that takes up 1.2mb, it must fall into both categories of size AND measurements. If your signature is too flashy, and distracts from the rest of the page, it can also be removed, so no strobe pattern gifs guys. None of these rules are new, they're just being restated because of the huge problem we've been having as of late. Continuing with what we have been doing, any signatures in violation of these rules, as outlined in the terms of service are subject to removal without prior notice.1 point
