  1. Thank You again .. I more question, for now anyway. Suppose I decided to try using zmod (which I probably will), how do I open a unit in zmod? Better yet do we have tuts? PS: I hate to be dumb, but the only way to learn is to ask questions so .. What is UV Mapping?
  2. True, I suppose. Your work looks fine. I do have one question though. When you save a file, and reopen it do the colors appear to fade, or overlap in certain places? I noticed if I reopen a .dds file the original colors appear to fade, or "bleed" into a section next to it. I was just wondering if that is common or not.
  3. Before I begin I'd like to thank Mikey, and company for answering my questions about .dds files, and lights in my last topic. Apparently I was a bit of a slow learner, but after using some of everyone's advice I was able to convert the files. That of course was the easy part, since then I've ran into a few smaller issues. For example, this is my engine for a beginner I suppose it isn't bad, but I can't stand the decals. The decal on the door says "Clark County Fire Dept.", and it looks blurry. I downloaded the decal from the internet, and rescaled it (I use paint.net), unfortunately the text quality deteriorated. To counter this I decided to hand write the text on myself, which is what I did with the words "Paramedic", unfortunately it still turns out blurry. Which confuses me! How can THIS CAR have such clear, small writing and my looks like crap . I can read crime stoppers on it, and I can barely read my own writing what do I need to do to get my engines writing to look like that cars writing. Also, Light Bars. In every mod, etc I see people using different light bars on their engine, or patrol car. I've been told I need to use zmodeler, or add the light bars as a child. Of course new lingo -- zmod / child confuses me. So I was hoping someone could clarify how everyone changes their light bars around.
  4. I'll restate, like I said before I'm editing some of JoseOu engines (I like the LED light bars). When I open the fire department model folder I see these files fire_engine2.dds fire_engine2.V3O fire_engine2_2.dds fire_engine2_door01.V3O fire_engine2_door02_v3O fire_engine2_wheel.v3O fire_engine2LED2.v3O If I open the fire_engine2.dds or fire_engine2_2.dds in a note pad then no I don't see the [VNUM=1.43] [NUMSURFACES=3] [NUMVERTICES=2249] [NUMBLENDVERTS=0] [NUMPOLYGONS=2932] [NUMBONES=0] [NUMMUSCLEANIMS=0] [NUMMUSCLEFRAMES=0] However, I still can't open those two files in paint.net it says "there was an unspecified error while opening the file", now I can unpack the .V3O files fine ( it says I've upacked them if I try again). The issue I seem to be having is when I go to name them to .dds files I'm told it could become unusable, and the converter is unable to find the files still. So that's where I appear to be lost, or so I think.
  5. Ugh these things make me feel oh so stupid, I know it's something small I'm missing. I've been working on JoseOu LED Light Bar mod, which I don't think makes a difference. However, I tried twice and I've noticed I'm still not getting anywhere. I've unpacked the engine2.v30 (it said already unpacked if I attempt to do it again) I've moved the file to the desktop I've changed the engine2.v30 to .dds I've opened the converter, and I noticed the converter won't give me the option to convert Also, I noticed if I attempt to open other .dds files in paint it says "there was an unspecified error when trying to open this file". I assume that means the file wasn't unpacked, but I'm not sure either. It's annoying because I've re-read your (Mikeys) reskinning tut and I still can't seem to open a file :'(
  6. My two questions are simple, and skinning related 1.) I've read the reskinning tutorial in and out, I've studied it like a book, and I'm still confused. So I figured maybe someone can tell me if I'm doing something wrong. For this example I'll be using fire engine 1 1.) I load up the editor, and the mod 2.) I click unpack, scroll to the LA Fire Department, and unpack the fire_engine1.v30 3.) I move the file to my desktop 4.) I open up the .dds converter (downloaded from this site), and find my file on the desktop This is where I have issues, the .dds converter won't let me convert the file, and I can't open my unpacked files in paint.net. Now I know the files are being unpacked because if I attempted to unpack the file again it will say that file has already been unpacked. So, I'm confused. Everyone makes it sound so easy, just do this and this will happen. If it's so easy what am I missing!? 2.) Also! Are lights connected with the .v30 files? I loaded a skin onto another mod and I noticed the lights didn't change over. So I was wondering if they are connected with the .v30 files. Mostly, I care about Q #1 I've done a crap ton of research and continue to run into a wall so I'm hoping someone can help me unpack files.
  7. Doesn't need to be perfect, but I saw your from Holland so it makes sense now. Anyway, I removed my comment no point going all postal, being immature isn't going to help. I got what I needed, time to move on. Have a good day
  8. .. in my anger I hit post twice
  9. Well everything requires a bit of experience, doing it yourself is the best way to learn though I LOL'd a bit once I figured out how to do this. I mean really though? Zmodeler requires a bit of experience. This is nothing, I watched a Youtube video and was on my way in about five minutes.
  10. and that is why we love you NFK you take the time to meet the needs of those who have "special" needs. XD
  11. Creating this model, good idea. Asking someone else to do it, bad idea.
  12. As you can see from the picture I have removed the red "covers" from the outer edges of the engine (around the head lights), my plan was to replace the red corra's with polygons, something similar to the warning lights behind the engine. Unfortunately, I got stuck at that part. How do I create a polygon, and how do I map it out into a rectangular shape? Thank You.
  13. Oh the problems. 1.) When you first start a free play game the warehouse across from FS1 becomes incredibly distorted. It will restore itself after a bit but I still noticed minor distortions throughout the game. 2.) Why do you have cops leaving FS1 to staff units at the police station? Coding error I suppose? What other issues are you running into? The 2.0.9 isn't 4x4's work it's YSB 4x4 stopped at 2.0.8. Also the BC does dispatch units correctly, at least from what I've seen on my side.
  14. It's so hard to put your mod into words, every time I come back I feel like saying "oh your done, there's nothing left to do". Then you do that "something else" and I'm amazed once again. Like I said amazing, the anticipation is killing me!
  15. As we all know I'm relatively knew to the modding scene, and before I go on I'd like to mention I didn't see any tutorials on lights (useful ones anyway) if I missed one feel free to direct me in that direction. Anyway .. Question #1: (Light Bars) I know you have to change the light bar in the .dds, what else do you have to do in order for it to work in game? I've changed the light bar in the .dds before and it's only caused the unit in game to crash. Question #2: (Light Color) What section do I have to go to in order to change the light color, red, blue, etc things of that nature. Question #3: (Day/Night): I've been fiddling with the editor but I can't seem to turn days on and off (for light previewing) how do I do this. As usual, Thank You.
  16. http://forum.emergency-planet.com/index.php?/topic/14798-how-to-reskin-with-paintnet/page__gopid__202295#entry202295 More to the point, what can YOU do? I noticed you created another topic "How to reskin with paint.net", if you don't know how to reskin then shouldn't you have waited until you at least had a rough idea what you were doing? Mod making isn't easy to begin with, walking into it blind is a bad idea. In addition to that reskinning a unit isn't as easy as pie. You get what you put forth, take your time and you get a good looking unit, rush through it and you get a crappy unit. Just some food for thought.
  17. http://forum.emergency-planet.com/index.php?/topic/6979-reskinning-vehicles/ Just a question ... if your new at modding why are you already trying to make a mod? Shouldn't you be learning first before you attempt to reskin an entire city / county.
  18. http://www.xfire.com/profile/dm155/screenshots/?view#113703875 Kinda curious, is this a firehouse from EM3? I've never seen it before, looks nice.
  19. This isn't a "bummer moment", maybe an epiphany for some, Xplorers comment should be placed on a plaque. October 31st, 2008: Board Etiquette That post from Mikey is two years old, yet his statement still holds true. A statement Xplorer has just sumed up in his own word. I'm surprised half the mods on this site ever get completed, with the retarded comments from the under aged children, and the topic humping trolls who "think" they know what their talking about. Projects that are started crumble under procrastination, and laziness. For those few that do survive, and not fall prey to real life your only met with an ungrateful community, full of people illiterate unable to read updates, or install anything on there own. True, there are diamonds in the rough, and the mods do their best to keep the unruly from snaring their ugly head. But inevitably, why waste your time when most people could care less, or begin to fathom how much time is placed into a mod. Their ideas diluted with ignorance, copy & paste, you'll have a mod in no time. Those who expect complete dedication to your mod, no breaks, no rest. It sucks indeed, but I can see why Xploror choose his path. Fact be, I'm grateful, yet surprised that half the mods on this forum continue onward. For those who do show gratification it seems there are twice as many who don't. PS: Personally, your work was great, far beyond that, what you achieved, and what you planned on accomplishing was incredible. I learned a lot from beta testing your mods, and would have learned more if having a son around that time didn't hamper me. You set the bar on most things, and your work will truly be missed. Good luck my friend, I can only hope I achieve the same level of modification that you have.
  20. They said it couldn't be done! I say never! Good job, just happened to drop into this mod looks A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!
  21. Well exams are more important then a mod, and I feel you exams are a pain in the butt.
