  1. Regarding officer fitness in the UK, pretty much any average Joe can pass it. I've passed the test and didn't have to do any particular preparation or training for it, and I'm not exactly a bag of muscle. I think that officer safety and effectiveness, though, are much more reliant on correct defence and control techniques rather than brute force and weight. Also strength in numbers. In terms of arming police...boy, it sure is complicated. As callous as it might sound, I think the idea of arming all police is never seriously considered here because of the massive infrastructure and training costs it'd require, which aren't feasibly affordable especially as the police forces are taking 20% budget cuts. There's weapon costs, a lot of training, upkeep, insurance, likely court cases from police shootings, and so on. Another issue is that our unique policing system here in the UK is built heavily on trust and approachability. As theocd pointed out, when people feel that the police are no longer trustworthy, an "us and them" feel can easily develop which is actually one of the main factors of those massive nationwide riots we had a few years back. Those high up in police will be extremely careful to avoid a repeat of that. PS Sparky - if there's anything specific you want to know, you can PM me I'll try to help
  2. Such halls, much student. I'm very familiar with that type of setup.
  3. That looks excellent. Quality + detail = success
  4. Thankyou, this is really handy for mod makers.
  5. Oh wow, my first thought on seeing that crowd was "what if a car blows up there?"....
  6. This behind the scenes perspective is a good idea. Helps to appreciate the level of work modders have to do just for one vehicle
  7. As far as I know, two-tones have been around for ages and continue to be on most of the new sirens across the modern fleets. The one in your video is slightly unusual though as it sounds more electronic, like a German siren, which I've not heard in this country before.
  8. In the editor, check the Traits of the vehicle, click the Taskforce Vehicle Type list, and make sure "Police Stw" is selected.
  9. Ah, thankyou oh holy one bama This is going straight into my American cities.
  10. Seems interesting, I was wondering when someone was going to trial this given all the reorganising going on these days. Will just have to wait and see how it goes. I can't see it going nationwide though.
  11. Oh goodness me, my eyes, it's so beauuuutiful.
  12. That looks like a great map, bama. With this new/old mixture, I hope that 2002 police impala back from the submod makes a reappearance
  13. Great work. These would be a fantastic addition to the mod.
  14. Thankyou raf and your team, I'm sure all us intel users are excited as I am. This hopefully means an influx of new multiplayer members for you. From a technical perspective, this mod seems like your best so far (next question is, can Manhattan be similarly optimised? ) PS, if you're still looking to increase optimisation, then removing the intense radiation effects from lighting is bound to free up processing power for weaker cards.
  15. Sounds like User Account Control (your system's security) is preventing those files from being edited. This would probably be fixed by running the configurator as an administrator. Have you tried that?
  16. I'd like to give this a go, although I'm not sure how exactly setting up a game via Hamachi works or which mods I'll need. Also is there a teamspeak password? I can't see it.
  17. This is a great idea. I can see demand being high. Id like to join it but I'm not sure of the time yet.
  18. Obviously in a gas-leak emergency, it's important to have supply shut off as quickly as possible. This is why some places in Germany train blue-light responding gas technicians. I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same for others, eg water companies if they need water supply or pressure increases.
  19. Yes, for the "MinDurationBetweenEvents" value, obviously increasing the number means a longer time will pass before getting the next event.
  20. Are you guys trying to play the second game mode that is labelled as 'unavailable'? That's probably your problem. That mode wasn't finished. If you really want to play FDNY and EMS calls only, I suggest playing the first mode after manually altering your fp_params_endless file in the Specs folder.
  21. Nice catch by the FBI there. Must feel weird knowing you lived next door to that... I have a few incidents but nothing too exciting or involving me that much... the main one was probably a Christmas party gone wrong (alcohol strikes again) where two houses across the road from each other, each with about 15 guests and all of them really drunk, started fighting and arguing and just generally getting crazy in the street by my house. I called the police because I could see it was getting out of hand (one of the main instigators was a schizophrenic who had been involved in violent police incidents before) and the call handler was clearly a bit taken back when she asked how many people were involved and I said "between about 20 and 30". So a police car shows up after five minutes or so, but the fight hasn't calmed down. The officers must have called asked for fast help because two minutes later another police car came up the road doing about 70mph (my street is a small and narrow 30mph!) and came skidding up. You could see they were really hauling, I think there were some weapons involved by this point but I wasn't sure. After ten more minutes of this chaos and flashing blue everywhere, things eventually calmed down and there were six patrol cars, two vans, a dog, and a helicopter and a traffic car
  22. I would guess that you need to check the animations in the editor - open the editor, open the mod, find the barrier, click 'Edit', and on that main window (where there are Edit Physics, Edit Children, Edit lights etc buttons) there should be a small box with animations. Check that the animation for closing is not set to 'looped'. I hope that made sense.
  23. Good work. I love the fire effects, the lighting
  24. The clearly defined thing here is "public place". Keeping one in your house is unlikely to be recovered by the police (unless they have some reason to be there and searching). Obviously, any weapon designed (or adapted) for causing injury is classed as an offensive weapon and not allowed in any public place, with a few exceptions. Though a knife is an offensive weapon, it is (obviously) legal to have them at home (ie private areas), but not in public - I imagine a baton would fall under similar legislation given it is also classed as an offensive weapon. Of couse, firearms are a whole different story. It seems likely you'd be allowed a baton as long as it's kept within the home (and never used!) but of course I'm not completely certain on that - there may be different laws protecting police issue/specialist weapons, etc. I suppose there's no harm in asking your local police force.
