  1. Sevearal vehicles were kept with the old style to keep variability in the mod. Mind you, it's only been a few years since the mod started, so many units are still inservice. Most upodates would be tiny things like Lightbars, etc

It's actually been four and a half years since the LA mod came out. Many things have changed since then, and a fair amount of the fire vehicles are out of date.

Here's what I've been thinking that would bring the mod up-to date. I'll list what is incorrect and why, and what I think needs to be done with it

    1. The BLS RAs in the mod (white over red) have not seen front-line service for at least a year now. They are all reserves now and even then most of them have been disposed of. I would take the white over red RA completely out of the LA mod altoghther.

    2. In place of the white-over-red, BLS RA I would put a 2008 model RA like the one below. It would be given an 800 number and function as the BLS RA. The current ALS RA in the mod would remain as the ALS RA. You could also forgo adding a new model and instead copy the current model of the ALS RA, give it a skin without the high-viz on the back, and use it as the BLS RA.

    3. The battalion chief SUV should be replaced with the current model shown below.

    4. The LAX RA needs to be completely redone with a new model. The unit portrayed in the LA mod actually was outdated from the day the mod first was released. Below is a photo of the current RA 51, and they've had this rig for 4 or 5 years now.

    5. The tiller needs to be redone. Currently there are only one or two Simon/Duplex tillers left. All the rest are American LaFrance/LTI. Below is a photo of one of the newest ALF/LTI tillers. It was put into service a few months ago. The numbers on the grille and on the bumper are part of a test. Eventually only one or the other will be on the rigs.

    6. A Seagrave engine needs to be added as an additional engine. One of the new 2007 ones would be the best. The new engine would replace the ALS engine at FS2. The ALS engine at FS1 would then become a BLS engine, while the current BLS engine would become the light force pump.

    7. Replacing the current USAR is arbitrary because 3 of the 6 USARs in LA city are in one of the older models as depicted in the mod. I would generally lean away from replacing the USAR.

  2. So if they send you the cd, they give you all the editors for the demo mission? If you download it from the site they don't work.

I honestly don't remember at this point. See if you can get them to send you a CD. I told them I wasn't a firefighter and they sent me one at no charge anyways.

  3. The LA mod is crafted after the real life operations of the LAFD. The LAFD does not use paramedic squads (light equipment truck) like LACoFD. njboy13 is absolutely correct when he said that the truck carries the extracation tools. I believe heavy rescue 56 and the USARs carry extracation tools also, but they are rarely called out to a traffic accident unless it's bad. Besides, only one USAR in addition to HR56 is staffed 24/7, and thats USAR 88. All the other USARs respond with the task force in their station and someone from the TF will drive the USAR to the scene.

It's pretty much the same deal in the LACoFD. A truck (or quint) will always respond in addition to a paramedic squad even though the squad carries extracation tools.

  4. You obviously didn't do your research because your 3rd siren has the priority tone and the 4th siren has an electronic air horn. Any siren in California has to be under 400 cycles per minute (this means that the priority tone is actually illegal) and the LAPD does not use electronic air horns on their patrol cars.

  5. Assessment Engine is just the opposite..well sorta. LA used to have ALS Engines like you see in the stock LA Mod. However, if memory serves me right, they just did not have as many guys completing paramedic certification so it was getting hard to staff ALS Engines with 2 medics. Budget may have been a factor to but I can't recall for sure. I imagine Billy will be along soon enough to correct me if either of those are wrong. With that said, the ALS Engines became Paramedic Assessment Engines, or Assessment Engines. The only change I am aware of, is instead of 2 Medics, it is just one medic.

Technically an assessment engine is not considered an ALS unit in Los Angeles County. For a unit to be considered ALS, there has to be two paramedics assigned. Assessment engines don't carry as much paramedic gear (drugs, etc.) as a paramedic RA.

  6. i'm doing something i discurage ttony on.

    Running DirectX11 on a DirectX10 card.

That's impossible. It can't be done.

Since when? It has nothing to do with your OS version. You pretty much said it your self, it is about what architecture your versions of windows uses, if its 32 bit or 64 bit.

Speaking of which, when buying/building a PC today, no reason not to go with a 64 bit OS.

Back in the day, 64 bit support was a selling point on many processors. Nowadays, any processor you buy is 64 bit. I believe W7 enterprise can support up to 128 GB of RAM. Theoretically, a 64 bit OS can support about 16 exabytes of RAM, but obviously that's impossible to do.

  7. Were is the City & County getting all this money? LA County is finishing up replacing the Squads as well. The Squads are 2010 Dodge 3500 with a clean idle engine. They are pretty but also very expensive as well.

Station 111 got their new Squad three days ago. Their the last station in BT 6 to get a new squad while 73 got theirs 11 months ago. Also may inmate FF Sanchez rest in peace. He was killed in the camp crew rollover on Thanksgiving week.

County always seems to have something on order. Every time you turn around they're buying new engines.

City buys stuff every year but nowhere near the volume of County. The last major purchase by LAFD was 19 new RAs on a Dodge RAM 4500. Before that it was 4 TDAs from ALF and the two KME engines.

  8. Oh, ok thanks a lot, its about time we get some new engines, my boys @ 106 are still using the old pierce '99 as a frontline.

The funny thing is that both the KME engines replaced fairly new engines. Both E27 and E98 were in 2005 Pierce rigs. Those 2005 rigs were bumped down to E298 and E227. I'm not sure where the old E298 and E227 went.

  9. LAFD currently has two new KME pumpers assigned to E98 and E27. I believe they're part of a trial so if City likes them they'll buy more.

LAFD also took delivery of four new 2009 ALF TDAs a few months ago. Only one has been assigned so far and that is T98. I believe the other ones are going to 29's, 39's and 88's. All three of those stations are running old Simon Duplex LTI trucks.

98's has a new enigine and truck.

LAFD also has 41 new RAs on order from Braun Northwest.

A side note, County just ordered 12 new engines, 2 new trucks, and a fuel tender, all from KME.

  10. You wont miss that! Thats for sure..

Does every horn move like that?

The Thunderbolts aren't really used much anymore, they were installed from the 1950's to the 80's. Most have since been replaced. Any still in use are at least 20 years old.

Mechanical sirens tend to rotate, while electronic sirens tend to be stationary and omni-directional.

My town uses Federal Signal 2001 sirens which rotate. However, the place where I work in the summer uses Whelen electronic sirens, primarily for their voice notification capability.

Electronic sirens are much more versitile because they allow for a range of tones and voice notifications (think giant PA system), but mechanical sirens tend to carry farther and penetrate buildings better due to the unique sound waves they produce (similar to a mechanical Q or rumbler).
