  1. nope not missouri... farther north and east
  2. Assuming the vehicle is on the roof: Update dispatch, and request PD shut down the road. Address any critical fire hazards, stabilize the vehicle, preferably and air-shore(sp?) and chalks, cut power supply, take out windows, and try to make access and get c-spine,by crawling through a broken wind. Then update EMS on patient condition, possible need for aviation, etc... Then pop the doors, and place a KED, slide him onto a board using the slope to your advantage. Then package, transport, clean up any fluid or debris, and turn the scene over to PD.
  3. Unfortunately that photo's from a pretty bad day the department had a few years ago. I'm looking for who the guys are in the Olive Drab jumpsuits.
  4. Looks like a Chicago Fire Department candidate to me
  5. Very cool and I wish you luck. I drive by Earliegh Heights every few months when I travel to visit family. It looks like a cool station.
  6. It's a big myth that comes from a lot of health brochures about soda. Carbonic and phosphoric acid are used in solvents for "washdowns". Those chemicals are in soda, but people aren't using coke for cleaning blood. As for carrying a solvent like that, no agency I've ever been around has carried any, they just call the fire department to hose off the scene.
  7. Many agencies designate the driver/engineer position for each truck. Once on scene the driver operates the pump or the aerial on the truck. In professional departments, it's often a separate rank above regular firefighters. In my volunteer fire department, and many others, the position is filled by any members that possess the proper certifications.
  8. As a general rule of thumb, it's better to be safe than sorry. We get a lot of calls about the same accidents and fires, I think my record was something around 25 calls in less than 2 minutes. Sometimes we get them after fire department crews are already on location (which I always find kind of funny). The dispatcher will liekly try to figure out where you're seeing the smoke from, and if they aren't aware of the source, they'll send a crew to investigate. Normally it's very easy for us to figure out if it is an ongoing call, or some sort of controlled burn, which in my area has to be called into our dispatch center. It's a pretty normal occurrence for us because the government will burn huge tracks of marshland,to prevent uncontrolled fires.
  9. I'll enter next month... I keep forgetting to check this topic until it's too late for me to get a skin together
  10. yep A lot of models can be used as a stun guns (without shooting out the prongs). The only things that will really alters their effectiveness are drugs and alcohol.
  11. Turn off the volume, and press the emergency button on the radio... As for the Medevac... under our system neither would be an immediate patient for flight based on those criteria. The pediatric trauma would be the more significant MOI and likely higher priority. The first subject if stable, minus, spinal issues, can be transported via ground with no significant issues.
  12. There is a service called language line. It's a 1-800 number we call with the 911 caller on the line, and they are able to provide us with a translator for just about any language under the sun. Even if we don't know what language we need, they have persons who can determine it by listening. However, if you have a large foreign language community, you normally have at least one person around that can fumble their way through a call. I've been on calls with people speaking various languages and often there is enough understanding to determine roughly what they need. It's part of the reason that I've made a point to learn fire, police, and ambulance in a lot of languages... As for eating on duty, yes you are allowed to, and often have to. I work 12 hours at my desk each shift. When there aren't calls i can run to the bathroom, cook food, and walk around a little bit. The second the phone starts ringing I stop and assist the other dispatchers. You learn to eat foods that take only a few bites to eat, and can be put down easily. You also have to get used to letting food get cold, or spitting it out to take a call. It stinks, but it's part of the job.
  13. We had a 4 alarm commercial fire yesterday, and due to the high heat had lots of additional manpower and equipment. Here's a sample of the what units we had on scene. We had departments from 2 states, and 5 counties with well over 100 firefighters were on scene for close to 5 hours. Dorchester County, MD: ( Not included: Rescue Fire Company, Hurlock, East New Market, Dorchester Co. EMS) Talbot County, MD: (Not included: Cordova-provided cover assignment) Caroline County, MD: Wicomico County, MD: Sussex County, DE: ( Not included: Bridgeville-provided cover assignment)
  14. Hi all, I've edited the LA Firefighter EMT with a different helmet, after fumbling around a few different ways I created a new model by adding the helmet to the no helmet ff/emt model. I have followed Hoppah's guide process before with success, but this time I've hit a weird snag. My logfile is showing an error in blend point consistency which is causing it to crash the model. Does any one have any insight into how to fix this?
  15. They don't respond, they are just private units for their charity. One of our volunteer fire departments in a neighboring county have a pink ambulance. If I can find pictures, I'll post them.
  16. I can provide you some assistance with editing the stations. I have done total overhauls of the LAfirestation scripts in the past, which is unfortunately what you'll need to edit to make everything work. Pretty much 70-80% of modding will involve scripting, which really does stink when you know very little about it, but the basics are easy to learn. The first thing you're gonna need to have down is how many units you want in your stations on the map, and where. The second will be creating those units and placing them in the game as functioning units. I strongly suggest using Hoppah's tutorial for this The third will be editing the scripts.
  17. No problem If you have any more questions, or want more info feel free to ask
  18. Volunteer fire departments vary a lot from place to place. Some are entirely unmanned, and members will respond from home or work to the fire station to pick up vehicles. Others will have a small number of paid personnel such as chiefs, paramedics, and even just people to drive the fire trucks. Other ones also have members that work for the local community that are essentially paid firefighters because they are always allowed to go to calls and are available during the day. Depending on the size of the stations, normally they are setup to encourage members to spend extra time there with big social areas and often times have dormitory rooms for members to sleep there. Some departments will do rotations where members are expected to sleep at the station once every few nights. Unfortunately, a lot of the time volunteer departments are not able to respond a fire truck or ambulance. Usually it depends on the time of day and type of call. Many employers do not like releasing volunteer firefighters to go to an emergency, unless it's something very large. Additionally, members don't like to go to non-emergency calls (mainly ambulance). Unfortunately a lot of agencies in my current area have had to stop providing ambulance service because they cannot get members to respond to ambulance calls. When volunteer fire departments do not respond, it is handled uniquely by where it occurred. Usually, it is a method similar to the one I will describe. In my dispatch center, when a call comes in we alert for the necessary fire departments. After 5 minutes have passed, and there are firetrucks needed that have not responded, we will re-alert the fire departments. After 8 minutes, if they still have not responded in the trucks, we will ask an incident commander (if one is on scene) or just automatically alert for the closest additional fire department. The method is similar most places, but there are variations in the time frame for when additional alerts are placed. In areas where there are paid and volunteer fire departments, they often still have very specific jurisdictional boundaries. This is not always the case though, some places, the volunteer fire departments are essentially support agencies for the paid fire department. Responses will vary significantly by area, but in general, both agencies will respond together. That also depends on the nature of the emergency, sometimes they may only send the paid or volunteer department. In my immediate area, the nearest paid fire department is 35 miles away, so we do not call for them unless it's a very, very big fire. We do however have paid EMS units for the county. Both the paid crews and the volunteer ambulances will be alerted for calls. The reason is that our paid ambulances are ALS units with a paramedic on board, and our volunteer units are usually not. There are specific restrictions on what volunteer firefighters can do, but it is all based on training. If a volunteer has not taken their basic firefighter instruction courses, they cannot use SCBA. Hazmat, diving, and water rescue also have the same restrictions, but once you are trained in how to do them, you can. It also depends greatly on what equipment the volunteer department has. Many do not have diving equipment, or hazmat equipment due to cost, and a lack of trained members. In many places several volunteer fire departments will join together to form these specialized units. Hope this helps.
  19. issue resolved... the mission takes longer to load, because it's creating the pscript file
  20. yep that's the way to do it: When in doubt though always save an original copy... I could've lost many custom mods over the past 5 years if it weren't for that
  21. Just want to give this a bump, since Hoppah is back around, and i never figured out how to do it.
  22. Here are a few ones I haven't posted Salsibury FD Truck 1 Tanker 16-1 Station 16-Secretary Hazmat 1-1 Station 1-Rescue Fire Company Tanker 61-1Linkwood Salem and Tanker 21-1 East New Market Tower 6-1 Station 6-Hurlock
  23. I've been working on a remake of the RTS mod on and off in my spare time. I want to start editing the mission script to fix some lasting language issues. The problem is whenever I edit the script, the mission no longer wants to load. I assume that the game is still trying to run off the unmodified script, but is there some way to tell it to load the new script instead? I played around in the editor, but couldn't come up with a thing.
  24. Most times the person in the captain's seat ( passenger seat ) manipulates the sirens. Sometimes I can even tell who's riding in the county EMs units based on the siren patterns.
  25. Make sure the file isn't compressed... GIMP automatically does it when you save a tga, and the game will not load a compressed tga
