  1. Sorry, I thought you were wondering why the FDNY specifically changed from a truck to a van chassis rather than everyone in general switching to a truck chassis. In terms of the FDNY, they do everything through bidding. Basically, they release the specs in a public notice and then any company that wants can place a bid, and the lowest bid wins. My guess is that the sprinter chassis was either too expensive to win the bid or it wasn't compatible to the FDNY's specs. Also, the FDNY wanted extended cabs and you can't get those on a van chassis. In terms of the general switch from van to truck chassis, look at Ford as an example. Their van and the super dutys start out at about the same price, but the super dutys can carry almost 1 and 1/2 times more than the van. Also the only difference between the truck chassis rigs and the van chassis rigs originally was the tunnel between the cab and the box which wasn't present in the truck chassis rigs. That has since been changed and now both have the tunnel.
  2. FDNY went from ford f450 to the dodge chassis. The fDNY does have a couple of buses on the ford van chassis, but their assigned to RAC units or are in the reserve/spare pool. 46 Battalions high rise rigs are rigs that respond to all working high rise fires with extra equipment such as extra high rise packs. The buildings unit is a non-emergency unit, but I have no idea what they do, I would guess building inspections.
  3. for the ambulances, just make sure the have the FDNY 911 participating ambulance logo on the front doors. Ambulances that don't have those logos don't run 911 calls in the city. This includes volunteer (not to be confused with voluntary) units, and yes, that means if you're sitting 50 feet from the central park medical unit's garage and call 911 for an ambulance, you will be waiting for the closest available FDNY or voluntary unit to arrive. Also NYPD highway patrol units use metal bars with surface mount LEDs on them as high rise bars, rather than the highrise bars the FDNY uses on the Battalion Cheif cars (which are no longer being put on the new battalion trucks).
  4. In the mod, there really is no difference. In real life, a squad is an engine company in it's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd due areas, a truck company outside of those areas, has all the capabilities of a rescue company minus scuba and can respond as an SOC unit, and a haz-mat technician unit for minor haz-mat emergencies.
  5. do you mean the new ladder's front, cause you can't really see the engine's front in that picture just cause it has blue lenses on it doesn't mean it has blue lights. The new rescues have blue lenses but no blue lights as you can see in the video below.
  6. Your right, and I would think it's fine to post defunct agencies as long as the picture follows the rest of the rules and you can find pictures on the web.
  7. That's because there's only a small number of horses on each shift for each borough. If you want to see them, go look around the high tourist areas, i.e. times square, ground zero, battery park, etc.
  8. You can't do that either. They have to be your models from google ware house or you can't use them.
  9. We actually just discussed this in my patrol function class and my professor for that class is currently an NYPD sergeant. Basically for non-violent protests, they put a few officers in the area and make sure it stays non-violent. Anything beyond that is officers in riot gear and mounted unit to move the crowd and then arrest anyone who does anything illegal.
  10. I've never heard of the L.A. Municipal police, and if you mean LAPD, then no.
  11. It must be something with New York topics, because now even the offtopic topic is off topic. Here is a link to photos from the 2011 FDIC convention, which include some shots of the new FDNY rigs including one of the first of the Ferrara rear mount ladders. Also, I've attached pics from the FDNY EMS rant website of the new FDNY ambulances, although I heard that there may have been some done on four door Ford chassis.
  12. I just thought I'd create a topic where all of us involved in emergency services could post about the stupid things we, hear, see, and do on the many calls we go on for everyone's enjoyment. This is my new personal favorite, my county's 911 center answer upon being told a bls unit was at an intercept with an als unit: "recieved we'll show you and regional (the als unit) meeted up." I wasn't aware meeted up was a word. Another one of my personal favorites, my EMS agency is luckily dispatched by the local pd, so we don't get bothered as much by the 911 center as the rest of the county, but unfortunately, when someone calls 911 rather than the local emergency number, it goes to the 911 center and then comes to our dispatch in the CAD "Respond to the Mobile gas station, 1 Maple Ave ..." in the background, you can hear one of the other dispatchers saying "it's the wrong address?", and then "disregard the page, 911 put in the wrong address."
  13. First of all, the models are free for you to use in your personal projects, not to release as your own. Second, this site has clearly stated that you cannot use a google 3d ware house models unless you are the original creator, and they will email the account the model belongs to to see if it's you. You can read further here Hard to tell, your the one whose profile says he's 13, so I would assume you, but chrisblaalid has been acting 13 instead of 25 so who knows.
  14. Lets keep this topic going. State, County, and Agency please
  15. I agree and personally I like the Crown vic Police Interceptors better, but at least these will look better in the NYPD color scheme rather than the ford fusions they're getting now.
  16. Do you mean a fog of war idea where you can't see what's going on on the map unless you have units their? Or do you mean like a dispatch screen?
  17. The word is voluntary and any rig that is a voluntary rig is a privately owned rig with a private crew (i.e. hospitals, commercial services)that have a contract with the FDNY to run 911 calls. You can easily tell them apart from other privately owned ambulances in the city because the all have stickers on the front door that say "FDNY EMS Participating 911 Ambulance", or something like that.
  18. No, they can have blue lights facing backwards, but not fowards. Haz-Tac units are staffed by medics/EMTs who are also trained as Haz-Mat technicians and carry Haz-Mat ppe so the medics/EMTs can enter and work in hot zones at Haz-Mat incidents. They also drive rigs with extra compartments to carry their extra equipment in. FDNY Haz-Tac rig and other EMS units
  19. As far as I know not all engines are CFR engines, cause I have specifically heard requests for CFR engines, like at Saturday's bus crash, but it probably has to do with staffing levels and thing like that Nassau and Suffolk counties both employ officers as EMTs and Medics and run their own ambulance service, but the NYPD doesn't except for two ambulances staffed by the ESU Tactical Medics for tactical operations. Next time please do some research on what NYPD, FDNY, etc. does before you just add info that doesn't really serve any purpose to this topic.
  20. I have to agree with Newfoundking on this one. My Ambulance Corps does the training for the local police department, and all they are taught to do is CPR (with a BVM, etc.), put a patient on 15 liters per minute of oxygen if the patient's having trouble breathing, and putting pressure on life threatening bleeds. So in reality, they don't do anything at most medical calls except make sure the scene is and stays safe for us and help us lift if needed. So in reality it depends on what your department provides you with and since NYC has the largest pre-hospital medical system in the world and all most all FDNY engines are CFR engines, there's really no point for the NYPD officers to receive medical training beyond CPR and they really don't.
  21. I think he meant in the game, because the hoses in the game are on those real packs like they use in Europe rather than just carrying them in a Hose Bed like they do here in the U.S.
  22. actually, we're discussing how they could expand the original game play for the mod.I.e. he's saying "they could add" rather than "You guys should"
  23. First of all, why would you post this guess, if he already said it was in the U.S., Second don't spam this topic by putting up videos that have nothing to do with the topic.
  24. I figured that out but how would you do that in EM4 where you're looking at everything from a god like position.
