  1. I like them, I think the elevated lightbars are awesome and the liveries are really crisp/clean. The OC-D
  2. Hey, The reason you won't have received your ID card is because they normally take a little while. As a new member, get used to being patient for things to arrive. Other than a Polo Shirt to go on duty you will need some black trousers and some black shoes/boots. I would try not to buy anything especially - as soon as you have done your two duties and your First Aid course, your new uniform will be ordered and you'll wear that from then on in. Things like Hi-Vis will be issued you if required. Hope that helps, any questions, drop us a PM. The OC-D
  3. Doesn't the box contain something else and just have a light on it? It would seem to be a massive waste of space if not... Regardless, this mods getting better and better, looking forward to some more pics of the new map The OC-D
  4. Yeah, if you find it could you post the name? Would appreciate looking into it The OC-D
  5. This mod is excellent and is looking to get better. Controversially, despite other people's suggestions, I beg you to keep the one tiny station for the map I'm bored of mods where there's fire units on every corner, where every call gets a five second response time - vehicles barely activate lights and sirens to cross an intersection before stopping. I like the delay, the possibility of needing extra units because things take time. Just my £0.02, of course The OC-D
  6. Yep, they're happening and they'll keep happening until someone posts to the otherwise The OC-D
  7. If it's obvious (i.e. car directly outside a shop/supermarket) spend a few minutes looking for the owner. Any more than 5-10, depending on the condition of the child (i.e. f they deteriorate swiftly within 2 that changes things) then *pop* in goes that window. Parents, if found, verbally rebuked, if they're ignorant when found - cautioned and referred to social services. The OC-D
  8. RandomPerson is correct, all the literature I can find Patvmru indicates that if displaying *only green* vehicles get no exemption from Road Traffic Laws. Check the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 and 'Blue Light Aware' for a simplified version; if you can find something contrary please let us know. Green alongside Blue as per HEMS used to have gave them Blue Light exemption. Haven't seen the new cars 'in action', so can't tell if just Blue/White. The OC-D
  9. It looks great and it works, my only question is: is the light necessary? It would also be great for eye candy purposes if you could do multiple i.e. you have 'ROAD CLOSED' but you could also have 'ACCIDENT', 'SLOW' and 'STOP'. Although I appreciate that's a lot of work for no real gain Are you considering reskinning the cones to Red/White rather than Orange/White? Make them look a bit more British...? Just a couple of thoughts, keep it up, its looking good The OC-D
  10. The fire stations in my county vary between 1 and 17 vehicles, if you go below you can see all the fire stations and if you click 'Meet the Fleet' you can see all the vehicles http://www.bucksfire.gov.uk/BucksFire/Fire+Stations/ The OC-D
  11. Ha, I sent the PM about if you'd mind about my posh English accent before these posts The offer is still there though The OC-D
  12. Hundreds I'd like to post but here's four that I adore: And one weirder one: The OC-D
  13. More Armed Response Units cost money, and compared to their amount of deployment, we don't need any more. Equipping most officers with TASER is again a massive expense for something that officers won't use on a day-to-day- basis. The Police Foundation estimate equipping all officers with TASER would cost £160 million*; call that half, its still £80 million of money we don't have. As for equipping more Traffic Police or other 'Specialist Units', you don't need me to tell you guns are dangerous and not exactly desirable at RTC's or in a Riot. Most other 'Specialist Units' aren't armed because we deemed they shouldn't be armed - Dog Handlers and Mounted Officers have an animal to control; Public Order officers** would struggle to keep hold of a weapon when wrestling with offenders, who else do we have - marine policing? The OC-D * Source is here but can't be dead sure of the maths as their reference can't be followed: http://www.police-foundation.org.uk/uploads/catalogerfiles/tasers/tasers_briefing.pdf ** I am aware of the exception that is Level 1 trained TSG Officers - hey, that's the Met.
  14. Good luck with it all, great to see you're back on it! The OC-D
  15. Blood, Sweat and Tea and its sequel, - I forget by who. Stop! Armed Police! - Stephen Smith The Good Guys Wear Black - Steve Collins The OC-D
  16. I dread to think what would have happened if one of the officers had been armed in the lovely tussle we saw in the most picturesque of English towns - Luton (lol). The officer lost hold of his CS Spray and couldn't get his TASER out of its pouch (interestingly both Sect. 5 Firearms in the UK) within the first few seconds and if you were, as Hoppah put it, the 'fattier', would you by trying to put a couple of shots into the suspect as he wrestles with your buddy, fingers crossed for that overpenetration? In a crowded street? What would the IPCC and the Media think of an officer gunning down a man armed with a motorbike key? They have enough trouble in this country when we shoot armed suspects! Had that been an ARV crew I doubt they would have drawn for the following reasons: 2. CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN WEAPONS MAY BE FIRED 2.1 Firearms may be fired by AFOs in the course of their duty only when absolutely necessary after traditional methods have been tried and failed or must, from the nature of the circumstances, be unlikely to succeed if tried. 2.4 The test of using ‘force which is no more than absolutely necessary’ as set out in Article 2 (2) of the European Convention on Human Rights, should be applied in relation to the operational discharge of any weapon. (ACPO Manual of Guidance on the Police Use of Firearms, 2003) One assumes the talking, tussling and the attempt at TASER-ing were the attempts at traditional methods, and in the end, they worked, and nobody got shot. I wholeheartedly agree with Hoppah, two officers were struggling to restrain one guy, I'm sure that happens in the US, Netherlands, Spain, Canada etc. too. I would just like to point out that glasses guy gets punched in the head by the patrol car and is rapidly losing consciousness throughout the fight, so its one and a half officers at best! The OC-D
  17. An Armed Response Vehicle can be anywhere from 10 minutes (London) to an hour and 10 minutes away(North Wales). If the same incident was to happen in the UK, almost exactly the same response would have happened but with unarmed and then armed officers as they arrived. This was a murder that turned into a barricaded-suspect situation, he set fire to the house and one could suppose he was trying to start a victim-precipitated suicide by cop by engaging the police. One could argue that the deterrent of armed officers prevented him from fleeing the scene but that seems unlikely. An example of a guy shooting from a house can be seen in the Mark Saunders case, if you like I can send you the 320 page report in a PM To talk about your Breivik point, what if a Breivik does happen? How long did it take for Armed Norwegian police to arrive to arrest Breivik? How long before armed American officers reached Columbine, Sandy Hook, the Aurora Cinema? The answer was always too late, missed by a minute or an hour, it doesn't matter. Incidents like Breivik cannot be predicted and arguing for a specific response to those that is present all the time seems a waste of money - what about small-town American Police/Sheriff Departments that have to rely on State/County SWAT (equiv.) assets? I'm pretty sure most Police Departments don't have Armoured Vehicles the like of which we saw was required in the video above. The murder of PC Bones and Hughes was an interesting case - they were lured to a suspects address for the purpose of him murdering them, If you read the IPCC Report, unfortunately now no longer publicly available, one officer had drawn her TASER, this easily could have been their duty sidearm and they still might have died. Unfortunately it does come down to acceptable losses - we have had 71 Officers fatally shot since 1900 (0.62 p.a.) and the way armed policing in the UK has changed has meant the number of firearms officers has only been falling to account for tighter restrictions on gun laws. I seem to remember I argued with MikesPhotos about UK Armed policing when I was a gobby, and probably wrong, teenager. In my third year of a Criminology degree, and having done a 10 000 dissertation on Armed Policing in the UK, I hope people can understand my enthusiasm for this particular subject EDIT: In conclusion then, I suppose, British police get by, armed incidents are rare and there is a fear that arming every officer would see levels of professionalism drop and necessary increases in accidental and incorrect shootings. There is a difference in the power that an armed policeman and an unarmed 'Bobby' has, but read some Waddington (1990) if you want to know more about that. The OC-D
  18. Yeah, lets not bring up the whole 'British police must be completely defenceless without a gun' discussion, it's a completely different culture that has a completely different style of policing. As for the video, very deep, very sad. The OC-D
  19. Nice skin and lights; that blood bag is very unique! The OC-D
  20. Those running board lights The OC-D
  21. I live in Southampton (for the minute, at Uni) and I see that car a lot, and normally on blue light runs, I have never heard it use that tone before. As for liking it, not really - prefer other British sirens. Also notice as it passes the twin heavens of KFC opposite Sprinkles Gelato XD The OC-D
  22. From July a British Fire Service will start operating more like an American/European one, any thoughts, particularly among Brits but anyone else can chip in http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-27364309 The OC-D
  23. There's plenty of literature on Wikipedia if you want to read up on it The OC-D
  24. He's Search and Rescue, he said it a few posts back. I'm not sure what I feel about Lights on POV's, I was both disappointed and relieved when blues and twos got removed from Community First Responders. Yes, they now respond more slowly to emergencies, but they're community so locality means it'll be quicker than an ambulance. It reduces the need for training or having people who can only operate blue lights under certain conditions who aren't really assessed. Green courtesy lights exist for Doctors in the UK, they are seldom used (you more often see them alongside blue on cars such as HEMS has) and offer no right of way (unless alongside blues). THat might be where Canada got the idea from? o.O The OC-D
