  1. This weekend a large scale optimization project on the current version of the Brooklyn Modification will take place. I will be going through all of the current Units and combining all of the textures into one file. This will reduce the size of the mod by over 200Mbs, extremely reduce loading times AND hopefully allow Intel users and other low spec PCs the ability to run the mod. We will formally announce when we find out how successful the optimization is. Stay tuned and hope for the best!

  2. I've been watching the forums lately, and see a lot of clans for multiplayer, but a few issues I've noticed have stuck with me, being it's usually just one mod they play, and there is a rigid structure to these clans. So to solve these problems, I decided to host the Emergency-Planet Multiplayer Clan.

    Who we are

    If you're a member on this site, you're a member of this clan. Does this mean anything changes for you? Absolutely not! There is no attendance commitment, nothing requiring you to sign up. We're going to be running community multiplayer games for those interested rotating mods. It'll allow those of us who don't have the time or patience to commit to some of the clans that already exist.

    What you need

    We'll be using the vanilla versions of existing modifications, that'll be announced long beforehand, giving you plenty of time to download. The vanilla mods will always be available for download from this site, and what mod we use will be chosen by you.

    We'll also be using LogMeIn Hamachi to host our multiplayer. This is available for free download from here

    Now, I've seen a lot of clans using Teamspeak for communication during these games, and for that reason, I'm setting up a small server for use during games. I'll provide the connection information at this time. Note, this is merely an option, if you lag too much with TS running, or just don't want it, you don't have to have it

    This upcoming game:

    For simplicity's sake, the first game will be a very basic one. We'll be running a vanilla version of LA Mod, meaning no addons, and we'll be doing it this weekend. Preferred time for me would be Saturday evening. Do we have anyone interested in this game?

    NFK. Love the idea and I will for sure see if any of the guys at NYCERU are down to join in on these games. Youre free to use our teamspeak as a hub so you dont have to spend on a new one. We can make a Channel for the games and such. We already play different mods anyways such as Harbor City, LA Mod, Montana Mod, NYC Mod, etc. Just whatever were feeling.

  3. The new smoke looks awesome, and I'm liking the amount of realism on fire scenes with the ventilation and stuff.  Everything looks pretty sweet.  If I have one negative comment, I would just say that some of the map textures aren't doing it for me...I don't know what it is, but some of the streets and stuff look kinda plain or something.  Still, the amount of new gameplay features will outweigh that.

    Thanks for the feedback, Dyson has the latest version and is going to see if he can work on the map texture.

  6. Ask Dyson.

    Standard Version of Manhattan mod has it and the Boston mod.

    He needs to ask me.. I created the model which he would be reskinning. I would have no problem with you using the model, however I do not recommend it. It is extremely unoptimized and to fully reskin it would take a while as the skin is spread out over about 5 textures.

    FDNY FIELD COMMUNICATIONS UNIT

    This New Unit for the Mod is special for 3 reasons:

    1. This is the first unit entirely made by me (Model, skin, UV Mapping, lights etc.) without the assistance of Dyson or any other team member.

    2. The unit is also the smallest ever made by the mod team. Only 2.4 Mbs and only works off of 1 Texture file containing all of the skin.

    3. It is a completely different look than the other units. The texture may be a bit more pixelated but it also looks more realistic than ever.

  8.

    Actually (never thought I'd say this to an admin) but you're wrong.

    Simply go into your main game "Data" folder -> specs, then copy the file called "Keys.xml", and insert it into your mods folder -> specs.

    Then open the "Keys.xml" in wordpad and locate the following lines

          <binding key="Keyboard0.Right" action="Right" />
          <binding key="Keyboard0.Left" action="Left" />
          <binding key="Keyboard0.Up" action="Up" />
          <binding key="Keyboard0.Down" action="Down" />

    Then change to whatever you desire. WASD would be look like this

          <binding key="Keyboard0.D" action="Right" />
          <binding key="Keyboard0.A" action="Left" />
          <binding key="Keyboard0.W" action="Up" />
          <binding key="Keyboard0.S" action="Down" />

    Actually (never thought I'd say this to an Marius) but you're wrong.

    Hes a Moderator, lol

    Thats like calling a Captain, a lieutenant. Its just straight up disrespect Mar. Im disappointed in you..

  9. I am working on V3.0.5 SD Same map, same units, just going to optimize it and reduce the size of the folder by 50% so intel should be able to run smoothly after this update. I would like to apologize for these issues not being addressed previously but this was all Dyson's mod I had not worked on it at all, he is extremely busy with Uni etc so I will take the time to help him out and get a smooth working version out to you guys this week. Stay tuned. It will also have the limited water, new gate functions and working Tower Ladders. I will also fix the SD Multiplayer Compatibility.

  10. Hey guys, just wondering what would be the easiest way to name a road. i.e. like harbor city modification has done it, I cant seem to figure out how it was done!

    let me know and if you know please tell me how step by step!

    Thanks!!

    You would have to do it while making the Map texture.

  11. I've seen and played mods with details as stabilizing vehicles in wrecks and hazmat with oil dry or fully detaching a vehicle roof to pull patient from a wreck ,more relistic looking fires and equipment . Berlin v2 has one of the best call outs for apparatus' that I have seen on any mod and these mods run on fairly low end PC's .You don't need so much graphical glitz and glimmer to make a mod awesome , Manhattan v2.0.3 I like and SD v mod too but I think Manhattan mod needs to look at some of the foriegn mods and see what it takes to make an awesome mod , its more than just shiny fire trucks and lots of buildings and pretty lights .

    Yeah, it doesn't take glitz n glamor, but in our defense, the german mods are not supposed to be simulating bustling cities with thousands of pedestrians on the streets and bumper to bumper traffic. What we were going for was something that had never been done before and we decided that making it look realistic as possible and as detailed and accurate as possible was more important than making it run on low spec computers perfectly. Its mostly our fault with the poor optimization we did, but I can promise that I will find a way to make Brooklyn Modification work on low spec PCs. Its not a good idea to compare mods though, especially german or european mods. The German modding community is incredibly skilled and talented and have a huge knowledge base on scripting and others. We are just working with 3 years past experience and learning as we go. We hope that Emergency 5 is a much more stable and optimized engine so that we won't have these CTDs and such in the future.

    Nice work raf, you've done this one solo and it looks and plays great. I actually really enjoyed playing this version because there's no distractions, just get to knock down some fires which is what I've been missing in the game as we've got so concerned with models and maps and various little gameplay tweaks. Feels nice to be back at just the fire. Anyway the multiple floor system works great pretty impressed with that too hope to see it in Brooklyn mod too.

    Off Topic and not continuing the discussion

    If you don't like the mod don't download it. Simple as really. I think there's been so much abuse thrown at us since day one that that's the reason I've pretty much let Raf continue this with a new sub team.

    Just think, if this actually was a community and the actual really good modders I've seen out there had, I don't know, leant a hand, or given advice or just given us an inch to work in, we could have been at this stage of balance far earlier. But from day one we've been hastled and harassed by members of all levels of the community. I think it's just a sad day when something we do as hobbies has to be analyzed and overthought buy a bunch of guys who at the end of the day we just enjoy playing the same game, a game we probably keep as our own little hobby. People seem to concerned with one up-ing than collectively just making something people enjoy. When I started making sh*tty reskins of the LA mod, people gave me support and got me into this whole modding stuff. Between me and Raf we learnt as much as we could about the game, spurred on by the few who gave us the time of day.

    It's just a game, it's just a hobby, we've been 2 guys just having a laugh making a mod. So if we wanted to release 70 versions that's what we'll do, it's been fun and a massive learning curve. So yeah thanks for that raf and I admire that you're still putting stuff out there into the public to be absolutely torn down and ridiculed, takes balls every time we released something.

    Anyway that's me out, not that most people will even take this in. Give me a warning if you want for continuing it, I'll get over it.

    Personally it doesn't really get to me when people down talk our mods. The only one that ever got to me was as soon as we released v2, the first 4 replies on the forums were so disrespectful and just really made me want to log out and never come back. "Dyson, you have ruined Manhattan Mod, v1 was better" and blah blah, I could care less what people say about our mod now, and I can tell the difference between constructive criticism and straight up shit. Im gonna keep developing for this game through good and bad until I feel like I wanna stop. Im not gonna let any 10 year old squeakers who can't even find the mods folder stop me.

    Here is to 50 More mods by Raf and Dyson, no matter how pointless they may be.
