  1. It can be rather frustrating getting requests for things that have been requested or are not relevent to the mod, that is all he is saying. The BTR's are soviet gear, so obviously it is not likely to be used in america let alone in a law enforcement role... The military in the US is really big into their new toy apc they put out the Stryker but it is not something that would serve much purpose to the game. Traffic is already a pain in the game, especially if you use the patrol option you will see your many vehicles jam up traffic at intersections constantly as it is, more traffic would make that issue worse. The other things you requested I am not sure what exactly you mean so I cannot say why they are not exactly ideal.

Hoppah made a point that most people should really take under advisement, there are too many requests for things which have nothing to do with the place that his mod is focused on (Los Angeles). In America, things on one side of the country can be as different as night and day so you can't take something you've seen in NYC and plop it into LA and expect it to work.

    Take care.

  2. The cool thing about maps are that you can always remove them at first, just name the file something the game does not really use like TEST and when the game creates the base texture, nothing will be overwritten or anything like that so you can just delete the test map it created and try again with your original TGA file untill you are satisfied with your scale. You do not have to have a completed map in order to test certain aspects of the map for scaling or appearance in the editor, so what you can do (which is how I did it) would be to create 4-5 road segments that are a bit long and just make each one different than the ones before it in width untill you are happy with one of them, this allows you to figure out which you are happy with if like me you would rather make your own terrain textures rather than recycle the existing ones in the game originally.

  3. You do best to use the National Guard Truck to gather up the civilians, but in all honesty you can wait to do that untill later on if you wished... The most important thing to do is to setup a fireline around the town it's self and the military base (look closely at the military base and you will notice plenty of room to block off around it from fire). You will most likely fail in attempting to hold the fire locally and prevent it from spreading unfortunately, so really you do better to let it burn untill it stops spreading and then go around and put it out once you are certain the objectives are safe.

    SPOLIER:

Then you will be told that rain will prevent further flare ups or something to the effect, however, you still have one more objective which is to find and stop the arsonist who started the original fires.... Once that is complete I believe the mission will be completed, so be sure to keep someone around that can go get the arsonist.
  4. @EM4_Police-Indeed

Commander I will not lie to you at all, it is not easy to figure out an exact scale since the EM4 game roads were designed for European Vehicles they are slightly smaller than america (which is what maps I work on are from) so I had to scale up the roads and try putting the original default vehicles on the road sections to see if they were large enough to accomodate them easilly, if they were barely fitting I adjusted them further to make them larger. In the downloads section there should be the original freeplay map for download which will work quite well if you are trying to replicate the original default scaling (but like I said that is for european vehicles, not american, japanese, greece, etc.).

My suggestion to you is to figure out if your vehicles will be larger/smaller than the default vehicle and adjust accordingly using the default vehicles or any mod for scaling reference to figure out a fair scale for your roads. Roads are by far the most important thing to assure are properly scaled to the vehicles otherwise they will run off the roads around turns and things like that. Most of the modders out there including myself make the vehicles lower scale than the people so that you can easilly grab the people and use them, since after all, this is a game. The sidewalks are debatable, depending on where you are making the map to simulate more or less dictates the size of the sidewalk, Some places have larger sidewalks than others, I have been to places where sidewalks=parking spaces while others they are more or less footpaths of the dangerous nature... So use what you know about the place to decide on your own judgement.

In the end there are no firm rules to making a decent map, the whole key is to try to do your best to retain a decent scale for your mod rather than reality since let's face it this game does'nt have a great perspective for scale to it.... Best of luck to you, perhaps you'll find your way at this task since there are not too many people willing to devote the time needed to make a complicated new map.

But what is the normal scale of EM4 game? Best for me to try to be normal size than too small or too big?

Like what the normal size of a person in game and normal size of truck?

  5. Real life to game scale is dependent on the vehicles you use, obviously if you are using smaller vehicles your roads should be smaller to make the scale proper, same deal with people they should be to proper scale. If you are making a totally new freeplay map you should focus on the roads/sidewalks scaling to ensure the vehicles fit the road and do not appear to large or too small to it, same with the sidewalks... Buildings if you use default buildings are pre-scaled so you can make do with them, if you build your own that's alittle bit more difficult. I have a feeling you are focusing on the ground first, which means worry about the scale matching YOUR mod's people and cars.

Map Size to fill the whole terrain is:

    8192x8192

ensure you save it as instructed previously, many programs can edit that format so you do not necessarilly need adobe photoshop. It is a great deal of work to make the ground maps, given the immense scale of the ground texture...

  6. Missions just take a great deal of work, especially something as involving as the Shootout Incident, so it would take a great deal of time to get that type of thing done, during which time the other alterations to the modification would have to be much lower than they currently are in the version updates... Love it or not, scripting is a nightmare of time and trial and error.

  7. When it comes to the LAPD I am uncertain if they are using the Charger in mass or if it is more of a trial program where they are just testing the possibility (which supposedly LA loves to test toys). I kind of believe the point is to try to keep things unique, so I do not know whether or not the charger would make it into the game as an LAPD as well as CHP since I believe the objective is to add unique new items that bring something different in feel and function.

  8. The older fire engine was declined for the reason it was not going to add to the game... The question has been asked before and hoppah decided it served no purpose other than being eye candy so he did not want to do it.. Which is the same reason the newest engines have not been bothered with, they are pretty much identical to the current ones in the game with a few minor changes.

  9. The addition of the Mod buildings into the Multiplayer is most likey an idea that would cause an already buggy online experience to become frustratingly worse, there are so many things that would have to work that probrably would not aside from the synchronizing of the gameplay between the computers. Aside from that, think about the simple fact of how do you control which player has control over the fire department, the helicopter on the helipad at the hospital, etc.? When you start thinking about the idea more and more you start to see how fast the idea looses it's luster due to the problems it poses without even considering the possibility of it working and how difficult it may be.

The US Secret Service was requested previously and was declined for the simple reason that they would serve no purpose to this mod other than being toys for you to look at, they would not add to the gameplay or bring anything unique to it. My understanding is that there is no desire to pursue a mission at this time related to the President, any other politician, or any other duty that would require the SS to be constructed.... Then you have the fact that an FBI 2007 Tahoe was just added into the mod and that vehicle has a new sniper rifle that is unique not just in appearance but also in abilities, you should be able to see the Secret Service really does not add much to this mod. Perhaps if this mod were the Federal mod or a mod based in Washington, D.C. it would be a practical request but this is the LA Mod and I do not believe there is much need for the Secret Service without a mission that would need them which I do not believe there will be one. You can always try the same request over at the Federal Mod, since he is doing Federal Agencies he may find a use for the Secret Service truck in his mod somewhere..

  10. Modding is broken do own into a few categories, some of which are not too hard to do on your own, my suggestion is to try to do what you can FIRST before you ask someone else to do all the work for you.... Most modders have other things they would prefer to do that they've opted for their own reasons to pursue..

    Modding Categories:

    Scripting (very hard)

3D Models (intermediate) depending on complexity

UV Mapping (intermediate) again depending on model complexity

Textures (easy/intermediate) depending on how realistic you want them to be

building prototypes (easy) just a matter of putting everything in, not too difficult

Start experimenting and see if you can do anything yourself because most people do not want to put in a ton of effort with someone who doesnt seem like they are willing to try anything themselves. Modding isnt programming, scripting is the closest to programming, thus why it is the hardest of the items I listed.

  11. That size fills the map completely, if you do not use that size it will just fill the map with your smaller one over and over untill the full size is filled, then I guess you could use restrictions on how much of the map you could navigate... I don't know though.

how big is the normal size?
  12. :1046276160_schildbacktotopic:

Does it really matter at this point? Cars out of their home jurisdiction will not change their light setups, trust me on that one, which does happen alot with federal agencies... "Hang on while I change my lights so I can go into that county or state" Not going to work, in the end this is the most useless discussion so why not find something more practical to discuss? Something that perhaps is relevant?

  13. I am getting tired of this so I will state my peace on this one last time then I am done... I suggested he put in grille lights, either a visor light or a dash mounted light and some sort of lighting system on the rear hatch area, he wanted a discreet vehicle and did not wish to put lights in the back end or on the top inside, so he omitted them. Yes, some will have lights in the rear side windows, but not all of them by any stretch of the word. The FBI vehicles vary horribly from reigion to reigion, there is not a standard requirement like other agencies for them which makes it hard to match a car to a place... Some of the FBI vehicles and other Federal vehicles have only Forward warning and Rear warning, I have seen some with just grille lights and flashing taillights/ reverse lights, then I have seen others with the system you describe. Since I did not care to ask who owned it or operated the suv, I cannot say who actually owned the one with more lights on it. Unfortunately, I doubt anyone can tell him what the FBI in LA has in it's lighting systems so I told him a general description from my area which there are plenty of federal agencies around and most of them are not loaded with lights like normal police unmarked vehicles...

But to put a nail in this one, Hoppah did not want a ton of lights on it, so he choose to go with the grille lights and I would hope something with the taillights and/or reverse lights since he did not wish to have a light in the rear window somewhere, probrably because of the fact the hatch opens upward. I would have liked to have seen some light on the visor, wig-wag headlights along with the grille lights on the front, and some sort of aux light in the rear window but it is his mod and he did not want all those lights.

Hoppah, theres actually usually a good amount of lights on the tahoes. If it is a slicktop like that, then they usually have some led's in the window (like the side windows), an alternating strobe/led in the dash, and lights in the back window. They have to because police vehicles need a 360 degree visibility amount. Just putting that out there. Otherwards everything looks sweet! great job :)
  14. I have seen their new color scheme, it looks similar to the patrol cars now which I was told that is what they were going for (thnx mikesphotos for showing me their repaint). Unfortunately, unlesss the helo is redone into the AS birdie I do not see the real need to reskin it and with the work needed to remodel the bird's rotor assembly I do not know if it is worth pursuing, yes the TV helo is pretty similar but in the end it can be better... For a limited replacement anyone could easilly throw the helo model from the TV chopper into the police prototype and have the same result as what you want hoppah to do.

Not a bad idea but like I said rotors are alot of work, hoppah can testify to that.
