      READ BEFORE REQUESTING ASSISTANCE!   01/23/2016

      Please ensure you have done the following things to posting a request for assistance regarding your problem with your game: 1).Searched the Forum using the search tool located on the top menu. 2).Have your logfile from your game so that it may be reviewed. EX: C:\Program Files\Wizardworks\Emergency 911 First Responders\Logfile.txt. 3).Get your DirectX Diagnostic Log Start: Run: Type in dxdiag and press ok. After it does it's diagnostic save the information and upload it. 4).List your system specs if the information of your hardware does NOT match the DX Diag or information was omitted from the report. Please also remember to use the "Upload" file or "Wrap in Code Tags" options to attatch your DirectX Diagnostic log or your Logfile.txt so that they can be viewed without consuming a large quantity of a page. To upload the file, just browse and select the .txt file and press "UPLOAD" and they will be attatched. The alternative will produce a code box around your choosen text, preserving all coded information as it belongs. To do this you can hit the button found to the left of the "youtube" button and [code}{/code] (replace the }{ with ][) appears, copy and paste your logfiles into the space between the ][ symbols and post. Any post that has the log file directly written in the post without either the code box or attatch feature WILL Be edited/removed. Assistance Requests that fail to do the above mentioned tasks will be virtually impossible to diagnose and assist in repairing. As such, they will most likely remain unanswered or be deleted! If you cannot take the time to attempt to retrieve these things for us to help, why should we take the time to try to help you?

Open em4.cfg with notepad, and find the follwing lines,

<var name="r_xres" value="1280" />

<var name="r_yres" value="960" />

Change the 1280 to 1024, and the 960 to 768, save it and close and the game should work.

Try the other ideas in this topic (removing codecs, updating graphics drivers). Posting your logfile and DxDiag will help us to help you

And I solved my problem using Codec Tweak Tool to remove broken codecs (bits left over after being uninstalled) and you can also use it to disable other codecs if you think those might be causing the problems.

Not sure exactly what fixed it, but I suspect it was "Re-register base DirectShow filters" under "fixes". Other things I did include selecting everything else under "fixes" and under "thumbnails" I hit "select windows default" then applied. Hopefully this can fix the issue for someone else!

Had the same issue as everyone else, heard it all but no video, found this thread and did exactly this and voilà! 

 

Game works fine now on win8 64bit

Why did you delete the .cfg file? Had you edited it?

 

Try this:

Open em4.cfg with notepad, and find the following lines,

<var name="r_xres" value="800" />

<var name="r_yres" value="600" />

Change the 800 to 1920, and the 600 to 1080, save it and close and the game should work.

It was already like that - it already had them settings that you told me to edit them to, so I deleted it as someone said that could also work.

 

So your solution did not work either sadly.

Did you delete files?  Hopefully you have em backed up somewhere, if not reinstall the game.

Chances are you're seeing this because of the driver version you're using.  According to your DX you're on win10, might serve you to try a different driver than the one you're currently using, quite possibly an older one from win 8.1 might suffice to fix your problem.  800x600 is a good "safe" setting for the resolution, but most likely thanks to your driver your game isnt able to set the screen to fullscreen.  My suggestion is try an older driver, if one isnt available for 10, try 8.1 since it's older it will probably have more versions of drivers out there for it than the win10 versions will have.  Since the operating systems are roughly the same, an 8.1 driver should still work with win10. Not the ideal solution, but what I believe to be the best bet.

Right click the shortcut, click properties and a box appears. There should be a compatibility tab at the top, click that and you should see an option for running in compatibility mode.

I found a solution for the CTD issue with Windows 10 and Intel 4 Express Chipset Family graphics. The "current" driver according to Windows is no good. Intel's auto driver update program determined that I needed a new driver, but could not install it. The solution is to install an older version of the driver. Found it in this youtube video. The links to download the driver (for 32 and 64 bit, respectively) are in the description of the youtube video. If yours works like mine did, when you first get into gameplay, everything will be black with the exception of a few details (smoke plumes, strobe lights, etc.) Go to settings and turn all graphics settings down as low as they go or off. After doing that, I had a missing button here or there at first, but now it runs perfectly. Hope this helps someone.

I'm still crashing to desktop after a black screen, even after running as admin, using compatibility mode, installing later versions of codexes. If someone could tell me what's causing the game to crash out, I can try to fix it. Thank you!! I really want to play this game.

Usually you see that from codecs interfering with the game, try uninstalling some of the codec packages you have installed, or from your driver version being incorrect.  Try changing the videocard driver you're using or removing some of the codec packs you have installed. Certain ones interfere with this game (not sure why).

Thank you, I will give it a try. Thank you for giving me some direction

edit: I finally got to see the intro movies again!!!! Unfortunately the game crashes right after the movies end before the main menu. Attached is the new logfile

try a different version of your video card driver. It's an intel card but there should be quite a few versions available, unfortunately for this game it's a ton of trial and error.

the current logfile provides no direct clue as to why it's crashing unfort.

I tried replacing the video driver with older versions, but to no avail. I however have some questions on other errors that are present in the logfile

 

?BLFileSystem::DeviceFromFilename("mod:Textures\Previews\curveview_nos3tc.tga"): unknown device name in URL

//along with

?ERROR: dynlight.vsf Version 3.0.0.0 or higher required!

 

do these cause any problems with loading the game up?
