UV Mapping Help

Recommended Posts

Trying to reskin a door model. Problem is it has a second dds files as part of the UV Mapping and it is just decals that overlap the base skin. I want to remove the second dds file but if i do it makes a big white splotch on the door. So I tried using the material editor to actually make the top layer transparent. When I do this everything looks fine in zmodeler but when I pop the v3o into emergencey4, the layer I made transparent is now visible.

Does any one know why it becomes visible when putting it in to em4, or some other way to hide the second layer with out actually doing a complete uv map of the door?

What if you erased everything in that second dds so it was just a blank skin, or if you had a red (I'm assuming) spot put over the door where the decal goes..

I'm just wondering if that part of the door wasn't skinned for the first DDS, but the second, and when you remove the second it opens up right into the model itself.

What would happen if you:

Copied parts from the door first .dds file, onto the second .dds file?

so that would mean that what ever part is showing the decal will be filled with the door image.

that way you would not have to change the transparency nor remove the second skin file.

(just a shot in the dark, don't know if it will work, or what will happen next).

I thought about the same thing Titan, but sadly it would be impossible to make the skin work that way as I would have to get just the right part of the skin over the decal. Check the screen shots and it may give you some insight to what I mean.

Here are detailed screens of what I have tried as far as transparency goes.

Here you can see border patrol decals on the door over the police text.

I open the door in zmod and only the decals part of the skin is applied.

Easy enough to fix. In the material editor I add the main skin

And the result is:

Ok now I try to make the decals part of the skin transparent.

And the final result in zmod:

It looks perfect. Export to v3o. Open the v3o in notepad 2 and both skin files are listed. Now when I load it in game you can see from the first pic, that it acted as if the decals were not transparent.

EDIT:This is solved now. There was a few extra polygons on the model. Deleted them and the skin worked just the way I wanted!
