  1. Depends by place but often times it relates back to historic numbering systems. It may also depend on how they are financed or controlled by the local government. It may also have to due with how the county set up numbering. Also some smaller volunteer departments while independent for tax and funding purposes(or vice versa) are actually unified departments. My main assumption would be it has to do with historic numbering and the local government ties. There are several places in Arizona where communities contract with Rural Metro Fire. Also, in Columbus Rural Metro provides fire coverage for the main airport. Overall there is really only a small number of communities that contract with private services. As jab suggested several private companies are very active in wildfire activities. Also special contractors like oil field fire services are also in existence. Industrial Fire Brigades (IFBs) are also fairly limited in a lot of the US. Often they aren't full services, just a collection of 5-25 men, often local volunteer firefighters, with no trucks and only pre-installed hose lines. The big exceptions are oil refineries and chemical companies, also some power plants and larger manufactures have a truck or two,
  2. actually, billy lives near a large NASA facility, I don't think he was joking. Currently I'm working, but not being paid, by the U.S. Army National Ground Intelligence Center. I'm also employed by my college. Once I get through this summer I'll be trying to work at either EmergyCare or Millcreek Paramedic Service.
  3. Paranoid is correct the Petagon has it's own fire department...I'm not sure what all equipment they have but I know they have multiple trucks, Also Reagan Airport and Ft.Myer military base are close by. But I believe the truck pictured is one of the other Pentagon trucks.
  4. Medflight 1 flown out of the OSU Don Scott Airfield. In Columbus, Ohio Flies over my home all the time.
  5. Just double checking also a no on Lebanon too I assume?
  6. This one shouldn't be too hard Obviously you have the department name, so I'm looking for county, state and unit number
  7. Newburgh, NY Fire Department Engine 1 (reserve E-343)
  8. Had an interesting brush fire here the other day: I took this one about 3 miles away
  9. Very interesting, I'll have to do that.
  10. Added pics to the first post, I apologize the quality isn't the greatest.
  11. Correct SID will be simply cosmetic and add to the level of realism I prefer. The other units will alter game play slightly, but not much. I understand people may not want to use the model or feel them frivolous, but I point to the AMR ambulance I made forever and a day ago (which has since been lovingly maintained by billy and others). Some people like to add to a sense of realism and diversity.
  12. The SID Unit is for personal use, and may be release. The SID unit is for when I deal with murder investigations. The others I've had permission to release in the past, I've just never gotten around to releasing. They are along the lines of the AUS and EAUS submods, extra trucks and persons to expand agencies etc. I intend to model other units as soon as time is available. Sorry to be cryptic but I don't want to spoil the unvailing, I will post some screens tonight.
  13. I was playing with Google Earth to try and find a photo of an SID unit, and I came up with this. It was photographed at the 740 East Cesar E Chavez avenue. Looks like a command post or some other transport unit... Anybody know what it is?
  14. Hopefully I will soon, but between school and the economy I've only had a few gigs of late. Trust me it does to her and most other women. Personally I could do this whole thing for $20 and in 2 hours, but that would never fly.
  15. Complaint: If I hear one more @#$%ing professor make the statement "Well you're less qualified because you were a music major" I will go ballistic:1046276128_motz: Complaint: I have several thousand dollars worth of percussion books and instruments I really miss using:1046274283_heul: Complaint: The wedding photographer we wanted is booked and my future wife is beside herself
  16. Hi Everybody, With classes just about to end, I'm looking to get back into LA Mod. Over the school year, I've put some work in and have reskinned a few units that I'm sure everyone would like (and if Hoppah approves I'll try to get them distributed). As promised here are screenshots of a few: * the engine is a placeholder till I can model a more realistic one Right now, I want to try and find a picture of any LAPD SID unit. SID is their equivalent of a CSI team. I'd like to make them for the murder victim on the deluxe map...So far I haven't been able to find any photos of any of their vehicles. any help will be appreciated.
  17. The fertilizer didn't contain ammonia nitrate which is what makes it explosive...not the brightest bomb builder thankfully.
  18. Wikileaks isn't too bad. However, it's rarely anything special or new. It's just stuff people think is super secret or special. As for the collateral murder video. It was a tragedy, but the gunner acted on what he saw, or in this case thought he saw. From the radio transmissions, it appears there were active engagements going on in the area on the ground. The fact they were carrying their camera's on slings didn't help. It seems weird for us here, but in certain parts of the world people tend to carry firearms around on slings, so the gunner interpreted what he saw by what he was accustomed to seeing. The "RPGs", which I assume were tripods looked a lot like an RPG. The behavior of the reporter who was crouched down by the corner of the building also didn't help. While a tragedy I don't think the gunner did anything wrong. If you're curious find video of them engaging identified insurgents...It lets you understand what the gunner thought he saw, and why.
  19. I play anything and everything in the Percussion family, since I have a degree in it... But I also play some piano, fife, bugle.
  20. Understandable, it really comes down to style like the reviews say. Both are very comparable systems. Sound quality between the 2 is minimal (I say that generally, most people won't notice the quality difference). The system for a Zune is nice, just not my style I know what I want, and I like to permanently keep all music I download. Quite frankly, I prefer to buy hard copies of most of my music, CDs are cheap. I can also manipulate and control my library from an external HD very easily with iTunes, which is nice when I have multiple computers, and I don't want to waste my laptops memory on just music. Apps are not a big deal to me, I have a few, but not many.
  21. I went to Ipod (6th Gen Classic 120 GB) after starting with a dell DJ pocket back n the day, which I still have just the battery dies in about ten seconds. Honestly I only looked a little at Zune. I opted for the Ipod due to price at the time. Personally I feel all the touch screens are stupidly over priced with not anywhere near enough storage. I'll explore options next time I shop, but i'l probably stick with Ipod. I've always received excellent customer support, local stores are certified to repair it, and I prefer the Itunes store and system (though can be a hassle at times, but always get excellent customer service from reps). So I'd probably stick to it for the whole system more than the player. The Zune and the supporting system just doesn't excite me much...It's getting better, but it's not there yet. Size is also an issue, I need something bigger than a 120, and zune doesn't deliver Ipod does now with the 160 GB.
