[RELEASED] Brooklyn "Borough of Fire" (BOF) Modification
MikeyPI replied to rafaelmfernandez's topic in Mods
It's called forward lay of the line, it's used mostly where a hydrant isnt exactly near the hydrant, so instead a firefighter hops off at the hydrant, ties around it, then the engine proceeds to the fire with the hose reeling out of the bed of the truck as it goes. Saves lugging the hose yourself to the supply line if it's a decent hike away. It isnt the most common practiced method of deploying the hose, but it's very effective in areas where the hydrants are few and far between and there is no other alternative for sources. -
Some units have redundant purposes, one of which is the SOC hazmat truck, it already has a vehicle that does its purpose, it just does it more efficiently than the one that was already present. Most vehicles have some type of special purpose added to them to make them uniquely useful and/or necessary of the ones that were added into the mod. Appearance wise, the existing vehicles won't be upgraded/changed, but as functions go some of them will gain new features to them which serve some purpose in regards to the mod, most will remain roughly the same though. The unmarked units tbh they really are just there as toys, so there isnt much sense in changing them around any imo, they are redundant to the marked units, the only ones that may grow in numbers are the ESU ones, the rest there are plenty of em. Terrorism activity will have some aspects added to it, the LRAD (humvee) is a crowd control device, as is the barricade truck. They are to deal with organized protests and things like that. The Bomb disposal vehicle is an additional tool added to correspond to the bomb style incidents and add an additional aspect to the game as an alternative of simply being able to defuse the bomb like clockwork as it was in the original game. The Tanker is refueling truck, it does have a purpose in the mod, but I won't go too far into what exactly it does as yet. =) But the thing does have something important it can do to make your life easier.

First Option (probably the best option): Open your 3D card Control Panel: Find the 3D settings for specific applications (depending on card dictates where this is) Add EM4 to the application list so that it is specifically altered according to the settings you pick. Change most of the settings to override the game's settings. Especially in frame rate control, ensure that all settings to "control" the frame rate (IE: Vsynch and buffering are on any buffering settings are on regardless of game settings). Second Option: (More of a pain but it might help you out some): Load EM4: Open Task Manager: Find and Right Click on EM4's Process: Depending on the OS you run you will find set priority/set affinity within that menu, you you may have to click view details first to find that in the menu. Under set affinity only permit it to use CPU 0 instead of all of your cores. Under Priority Set it to Low priority. You have to do this every time you run it I believe, but it should slow it down. Limiting the number of cores it has access to should limit the processing power it can use to run, but the primary increase in "speed" is likely from your video card, if you have an integrated video card as well as the high end 3D card you could try using that for EM4 instead of the dedicated card to see if the performance levels out with the whole rig minus the heavy card. Remember, EM4 is quite old and this type of issue is something that is commonplace with an old game on a new rig.

The problem from my understanding is that people with ill intent managed to get into advertising system and instead of linking to normal legit advertisers instead goes to the not so legit alternatives that were added in their place, the issue happened for me for a short timeframe (about a day or two) before it was resolved by google. In the end the issue that I was experiencing is similar to yours, but in both instances I believe it is related to the advertising system Google uses, they temporarily seem able to repair the damages done by the malicious actions but since it has happened for you so recently, it appears they have as-yet closed the loophole that they are exploiting to do it. It is ultimately up to Google to make the required alterations to their system to prevent the malicious changes, we and other sites (we're not the only one to have had issues with this type of thing) can't do anything about it as it isnt our systems at fault, but the advertising system Google uses that requires alterations. Hopefully they get it in check soon and eliminate the problems, otherwise many sites will have to change how they function because their system is unreliable if it continues to be tampered with.

Sorry then, I missed the joke=/ lol. Yeah I thought about the the tiller because they are popular especially in cities with high-rises, but the issues with the trailer are why I avoid them. With the tow trucks they had no choice but to make use of a trailer, and given that they only track the trailers when loaded with a car it was more tolerable to me that it doesnt work perfectly. There were other vehicle types that had trailers along with the tiller I'd like to have made but the way they don't work right made me forego their addition. So far nobody has found a way to simulate physics on the trailer that doesnt cause problems, particularly reversing as the dumb ai makes required sometimes so watching a cab go through it's trailer always sat poorly with me. Instead of the tiller ya just have to make do with the Tower and regular Hook and Ladder trucks that NY uses, unless ofc someone figures a workaround to make the physics work and the things able to turn around without getting stuck. Driving unhindered I could make work quite well, but the minute they have to back up or pull a 180 they'd get stuck somewhere and be totally un-recoverable given the game's AI setup. It just wasnt meant for tractor trailers =(
-
Then yes, it's fully functional because that's what we built it to in essence be.
-
1). That truck belongs to the NYPD ESS Bomb Squad, it is a Bomb Disposal Vehicle, it is used to put devices in to detonate them rather than attempt to disarm them. It is functional. 2). The Satellite truck is fully functional as we understood it's purpose anyway. I'm not totally 100% as to what they are used for outside of high-rise water cannons. Their main ability to to use an oversize cannon and hoses to push alotta water onto a targeted fire.
-
Then you won't be playing it, does not hurt our feelings sorry to break it to you. The tiller mechanics as they currently work simply put, Don't work at all. Placement to actually use the tiller as it is intended to work (to get into buildings) is extremely problematic, the trailer which is a tiller has absolutely no physics and handles only from the cab, these issues make it unrealistic and more problematic than it is worth. I'll make a deal with you, make a proper functioning tiller that not only deploys correctly to permit proper entry into upper levels every time, as well as acts with proper physics and behaves like a true tiller and it will be added.. Short of that, feel free to spite yourself and not play the mod because of a vehicle that does not work correctly not being present. lol...

Double posting is two posts directly in a row. The only people allowed lee-way in regards to doing that are mod-makers updating their topics with content updates. Everyone else can use the nifty "Edit" button found in the bottom right of your posts. If you have said something and want to expand on it, you just simply press that button and alter as required.

The Army mod is a different beast than this one is, they don't quite work the same. The progressive gameplay in this one permits you to "unlock" equipment as you go along, some of which unlock new missions to go along with the varying equipment added to your disposal. The main purpose of the "unlockable" content is to put forth more advanced gameplay as you progress within the mod, as opposed to just having it all there from the get-go in a sandbox style of format.
-
The simple answer is yes, there will be a multiplayer compatible version for this mod.
-
NFK would be correct that this model is a different model than the one you've found/used. The one in this mod was built specifically for it and is currently used nowhere else, the animations are specific for this ones rotor set, it would not with a different rotor set.

None of the cars are pre-1998 (ish) that were added, the Camry is from 1999, which had a more squared body than the 1990's version ironically. the Mustang is closer to 2005 for it's date, it isnt quite as old as what you guessed, the older ones were again more round than the newer ones (go figure). the Cadillac is an El Dorado Touring Coupe from the 2000 era, the Land Rover is from around about 2000, I think it still looked that way in 1998 though, but I'm not sure about the Discovery's evolution. In america they call the Isuzu canter an NPR, but i think they are in essence the same vehicle. The one you are confusing with the Nissan Sentra is probably the Pontiac Grand Prix. A few of the trucks are older style chassis, but it is very common in the US for trucks to persist for over 10-15 years before they get replaced, in custom chassis configurations some go even older than that. All of the emergency vehicles added have some type of function associated with them, both Fire and Police wise. Some are redundant to currently available vehicles, but most have some new function/feature they can do that other vehicles cannot (for the larger trucks). Everything we added into this version we tried to give some special trait that would make you have a reason/necessity to pull it out, aside from just being eye-candy to look at. As far as making a traffic car pack together I'll talk to you in PM about that for a later date perhaps.. Drop me a PM and we can discuss that for later.

Play nice with one another or you won't be allowed to play at all, namecalling isnt necessary to get your point across, when you resort to name calling it doesnt exactly help to sell your opinion any better.

We are keeping most of the gameplay changes to ourselves at this point, in essence the gameplay has changed to a progression format where you have to earn progressive challenges (mission types and their associated equipment). More comprehensive (in-depth) missions along with the original style of mission types the game came with. We have made them to be more involved in some instances so you have to do more to complete the tasks. The UI we are not showcasing at this time but that has changed drastically in how you access the vehicles. We have added new functions to go with the new more involved mission types. We are not going to list all of the changes at this time, we have some things we wanna keep to ourselves at this time. Because I am too lazy to reinstall Fraps, I windowed my game, but here is some more of the content added to this mod. In order to show it all I had to stay about the gameplay height to fit it all in as few images as possible. Emergency Services and civil:

It should be capable of being played on intel/amd integrated chipsets, our last benchmark with such cards it was playable. We have to complete filling in the new map in order to verify this is still the case though before I can state this 100% as a fact. With adding a comprehensive vehicle replacement package to make the vehicles have the look of NYC along with fully new buildings we have to balance the new content against performance. My computer has switchable graphics along with an intel series 4600 so it will be tested with that again as a benchmark. Our goal is to make it look and feel as much like NY as we can while balancing availability for most mainstream systems to be able to play it reasonably well. Obviously higher end machines will get better performance, but we'd like to make sure that even lower end rigs can play the mod stable if we can possibly do that, we will.

NYSP used a Bell UH-1 during our era, along with several other aircraft, since it is our represented medivac, we went with the UH-1 as the model for it. I have no desire to do further aircraft models, the Bell Jetranger for example is much much older and was replaced by other aircraft in or about our era in which we chose to do. The other aircraft used for medivac operations by the NYSP I frankly felt was pretty ugly (Bell 430).
-
Wrong, the NYPD operates the Bell 412 along with the Agusta A119, during the period in which our mod takes place the bell 412 still had that livery on it, the agusta 119 is also present in the mod, has the new livery as it was present on them during the era we've done.

Yes, the El train does does roam the tracks like the original train does on a normal map.

I have to agree with Chris, going with a reliable reviewed 800 ish range should cover your hardware, while the 1000+ is nice for "upgrades at a later date" what people must realize is not everyone has the money to pony up for the heavy-hitter gear, so you should always explain what they NEED vs what would be your choice. Then, explain the differences between the two, both good and bad. I am sure I am not the only one who's bought equipment that has crapped out after a little over a year (just long enough to make any manuf warranty completely useless).. On those instances paying MORE for what should've been the better gear to just have it die on ya don't feel so great, especially when money is tight to begin with. Practicality says you should go for a 800 supply, below that depending on how many devices you have feeding off of it you still may not be pumping out enough power to handle it all. 800 should be able to handle most people's normal rigs without issues.

Northern San Diego County Mod (WIP)
MikeyPI replied to lapdlafd's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
This particular act of legislation is designed and written to prevent the military from being used to "police" or suppress it's own populace, outside of law enforcement duties it has no applications, so the military bases may where required release their medical or fire services to support local or state-level requirements. This is mainly seen with Foam units and Crash Tenders more than anything else, but it can include brush trucks and things of that nature that the local forces may not have in sufficient quantities. The exception to the limiting factor of this particular act is specifically stated as natural disasters, nuclear emergencies, epidemics, or terrorist acts in which essentially incapacitate the local law enforcement agencies, then the military may be used to "restore order" if it is deemed the local policing forces are incapable of preserving the law and protecting the populace. -
Here is my thoughts on this, perhaps someone new could learn to do a new mod, quite possibly faster than the veterans of EM4 can since they are familiar with EM4 and EM5 is vastly different... That being said, NFK has it 100% right in my book, most of the "skilled" people that people want to band together to do this mod can reskin for themselves, thus negating the requirement to be involved in this project unless it was somehow very compelling to them to do this particular town. When compared to Boston, NYC, Miami, LA, Chicago, ETC. I just can't see that happening. So ultimately whether it is liked or not, in order for this particular mod to get going, the individual who wishes to author this mod will have to step up to the plate and get the mod started on his own. Perhaps once he had some forward progress going in the right direction to possibly be a mod for EM5, it would garner the attention of those who could help. Asking people who already have ideas/concepts to help you out with one or two things is one thing, asking them to in essence build the mod for you, since admittedly you don't have the required skills as of yet is quite honestly an unrealistic goal. The people who could make your ideas a reality will be occupied with their own projects and probably would not want to have to try to build a project that is from a place most of the modders are unfamiliar with. Waldorf, Maryland isnt exactly seen on movies or tv shows every day, so most of the modders probably don't know much about it, nor have much interest in it. To garner that interest will take a good deal of progressive effort from the originator of the idea to help push through his idea, because ultimately with such a specialized town it is HIS idea that he wants done. More people would've been more likely to want to help with a more mainstream locale, but that is what it is. People can call it picking if they want to, but the reality is it is just being 100% honest on this particular situation.

Crashing out of multiplayer after 5 Min
MikeyPI replied to firefighterguy9535's topic in Technical Related Support
What I would suggest is that the stronger connection/performing computer be the host of your game.. EM4 is a memory bleeder, as such it takes a good bit of resources to run the game, esp online.. Over time the "bugs" build up causing more issues. If I were you I would attempt to host the game and see if stability improves between you and your intended co-op players... Just because someone thinks their computer is the ideal host does not always make it so, load on the network, connectivity issues, background processes can all lead to an otherwise good host being useless because they can't support the game + all the other things they have going on at the same time. -
^That only occurs on laptops which have the switchable graphics cards, mine does the same on some games with attempting to use the intel instead of the amd dedicated, so verify that if that is applicable that your laptop has multiple video cards it is indeed using the dedicated one instead of the integrated one. Not all laptops have multiple cards in them, some will only have the higher end dedicated card. The other key thing is to make sure that the power management setting is set on high performance, not balanced or any other setting. Wkboy is correct in suggesting that option, it is by far the most effective option to improve gaming performance on a laptop, with it set to balanced or lesser than that you WILL notice a performance drop vs high performance settings. Realize this setting will chew through the battery extremely fast, so be sure to not leave it on that setting when you're on battery and not gaming. The above two items are the largest impact you can expect to see in changing your performance within gaming, there are other things you can do that will help some depending on the game that you're playing. Better games have more options to adjust and fine-tune for your hardware, budget titles generally don't have these options which is why alotta people have issues with games like the EM series... The more options within the game you can adjust, the better performance you can expect. Turning down things like shadows, reflections, smoke/particles has a massive impact on the GPU load it is put under. Yes it does take away some of the pretty graphics of the game but it will improve your frame rate and reduce lag greatly to turn them down or off. Laptops are not exactly ideal for gaming platforms, because of the limited space and abilities to dissipate heat, they are designed to not have quite the same performance as their desktop counterparts. That being said, it is not to say that a laptop cannot be capable of playing very intensive games (usually you have to go to medium settings for the best performance, though some can do full). My laptop for example can play the latest games that came out for the holidays without issues, including EM5, but most the time you have to fine-tune the settings for the rendering to make the most of the game's framework. What most people forget is that usually performance issues that are the result of the game's coding makes it to where a good deal of machines will struggle to play the game without experiencing the defects that result from the game not being properly optimized. Having the best performing hardware according to a "benchmark" test, does not in any way translate into real-world performance being the same as those benchmarks... Think of it just like what a car manufacturer claims their car is able to do performance wise vs. what it really does in real-world driving. Generally what they claim isnt what it actually does when outside of controlled circumstances, hardware in machines suffers the same flaw. Games that have proper optimization and plenty of options for graphical settings are the ones that cause the least problems when it comes to fine-tuning for your machine's specs, the ones that lack that sometimes can be adjusted using the software included with the card, but generally it has limited effect where the in-game setting options will have the greatest.
