  1. Seems like they're making a new Shogun :D I prefer Rome, and Medieval 2. I broke my Rome game though, when I got Barbarian invasion. The patch that comes with it breaks the Rome AI, makes them very passive and incapable of launching invasions by sea. I think just patching it up a few versions would solve it, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet :P I'll do it when I get the urge to play Rome again.

  2. I found out, you were right. A Rettungshilfer is EMT-B trained, and doesn't normaly work on rescue ambulances (RTW), just the transport ambulances (KTW). A Rettungssaniteter is EMT-I trained, and can work as crew on the RTW, or as crew chief on the KTW. A Rettungsassistent is EMT-P (Paramedic) trained, and works on the RTW as crew or crew chief, or as driver of the NEF, the doctors car.

  3. I've got it, but can't for the life of me get it to work. I'm getting the "seculauncher failed to start application. 2000". I've tried every fix, deleting all the C++ things and installing only the recommended one, downloading the proper NET Framwork package, tried every patch version, even took the liberty of cracking the game. I figured I had the right to do that with a legal copy that won't work no matter what I do. But not even that solved it. It worked just fine on my old XP rig. Guess I have to set up a XP virtual machine or something -_-

  4. I'm a huge fan of the Total War series. Only one I don't have is Medieval: Total War, the expansion for Shogun and the expansion to Empire: Total War.

I also love the Silent Hunter series. I have 3 and 4 on my computer. Ubisoft screwed up with the DRM for SH5, so I haven't gotten that yet. Yay for companies driving legal owners of their games to download cracks to make the game playable! I have that problem with GTA: IV as well. For the life of me I can't get Securlauncher or whatever it's called to work. I've tried every fix out there (there were some problems with Visual Basic and NET Framework, but I tried everything). It worked fine on my old XP rig. Too bad really, I wanted to try out the LCPD: First Response mod, where you play as the police.

Anywho, I really don't play games for very long :P I loose interest and find a new one. Then I pick it up a few months later.

  5. Well I am not sure who moved my comments to this thread, because my idea is different. What I want to see is free play that has NO automatic calls being announced. What I want to see is a panel that you can create your own emergency call when you want it. Example. If I want to just sit and patrol the city without the worry of running a call for 15 minutes, I can. If I want 3 shooting to happen at once, I click a "shooting call" button from my dispatch panel to create the call. Creating your own call at your own timing with a dispatch panel allows the user to play the game as he or she wishes without having to go into the html backbone of the program.

Ah, well there is something like that for the Winterberg Mod, you have to edit some files though. However it's very limited. You take the button which in the regular mod is used to turn the snow on and off, under menu 5 I think, and "link" a specific incident/scenario to it in stead. You can trigger it when you want, but you can only have one type of event "linked", if you want to change it you have to edit the files. At least I think that's how it is.

  6. Looks nice, I'm looking forward to trying out this mod :)

One question about the radio statuses though. I thought the point of the whole system was for the vehicles to be able to report their status without having to speak, so not to tie up the radio? So verbally reporting status would kind of defeat that. I thought they just hit "1" on the radio, and the dispatcher would see them as Frei auf Funk on his FMS board.

    EDIT: Typo

  7. I must say I like what you've done so far. Haven't played any historic mods before, only know about the DDR mod. A question though, will you have scripts, or are you just making new models + skins? And some russian voice actors would be great >_>

    Anyway, like it regardless :)

  8. Since Winterberg is realistic you will need a great security area where only specific vehicles may be in (ladder e.x.). Other vehicles should be parked near the police blockades (if you create those, I always do. I once called 5 patrol cars and 1 group van for a fire in the bomb storage on the military base.) Keep a great safety, else it can go wrong.

Flashover and exploding vehicles are the greatest risks. Just keep your units clear of any parked vehicles, and don't park your units right next to the burning house :P

I rarely use the police to block off streets, unless we're talking about huge incidents where I need space for alot of units. It's a matter of taste I guess, I just don't find the hassle worth it. If people are going to get injured in the fire, that usually happens long before any of my units arrive. Damn those exploding cars! :wall:

  9. In the Winterberg mod, you have all fire units under button 1, ambulances under 2, police under 3, emergency doctors under 4, and various other things in the other.

The Florian Hamburg mod has the same system, just slightly different in regards to which units are called.

  10. You're right, it id the engines with the hose problems.

About ventilation though, no, I've not used the fan. I never really knew when to use it. ;)

I think you install it by having the vehicle commander selected, then hovering the cursor over the door, it should change to a picture of a fan. I think it helps with the danger of flashover, plus unprotected (IE not wearing SCBA gear) people inside loose less health. I'm not 100% sure though, I'll ask on the Winterberg forum.

  11. What am I supposed to do when I get this mission during freeplay?

It's called massenschlägerei and it's a bunch of people standing in a white cloud so I can't see them, only that there are several suspects.

If you've updated your copy of Winterberg lately, the fog of war is now disabled by default. You can reactivate it of course.

For the massenschlägerei, or riot brawl as it's called in the english translation, first unit to call is the Demo police from the police menu. Second to call is the SEG, the Red Cross people with the mass casualty tent found under menu 4. Because you WILL have alot of injured people :P

  12. Sometimes though, the guy will grab a hose and just stand next to the truck, and when there's the Fire Detection System, I send a guy in, the building explodes, and my trucks catch on fire! I found ways around that though. ;)

I've never had them fail to connect to a hydrant before, I've only had some engine crews fail to install attack lines. I use the hold left shift when having the vehicle commander selected way to place a 3-way connection and 3 attack hoses. That error was limited to a few vehicles coming from outside the map though, and I think the error was that there wasn't enough crew in the vehicle to use that many hoses :P

On the explosion part, isn't that flash over? I've had it happen to me once, damn annoying. I think I've read somewhere that ventilating the house first (with the fan you install in the doorway), you don't risk flash over. Do you have any experience with that?

  13. Select the leader (The firefighter with the red shoulders) and right click a fire hydrant. A firefighter will then go and get a firehose, connect it to the firetruck and then the hydrant.

You can also use that same function to connect one truck to another, if there are few hydrants or the hydrant is too far away. If you want the ladder truck to spray water as well, it needs to be connected to another fire engine, since it doesn't have a pump or water supply of its own. Ones you order the ladder truck commander to connect to another vehicle, it automaticly deploys, and a guy goes up in the basket.
