  1. I'm sorry but this is so wrong, It is frustrating to see you and other complain about modders because you don't agree with their terms of service/usage of that particular mod. If a Modder decided you cannot use their assets/mods it is entirely their choice and that is the end of it, If you don't like it the best thing you can do is to put your time and effort into learning the skills necessary just like we did, so your able to create your own work instead of relying on others. In my opinion it is in fact people like you witch damage the community and turns future modders off from wanting to create new content

     

    Imagine spending countless hours working on a project building assets, testing and troubleshooting issues  and then releasing the product free of charge only to have people post how it's not fair that they can't use your work. In my mind this is madness and is where the real fault lies....

     

    As an ex Em4 modder I'm glad I'm not active in this community these days. Thankfully this thing doesn't really exists in Em5.

  2. Merry Christmas

     

    Hello Everyone, it's that time of year again and the Holidays are just around the corner. We'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year! 🎅 

    Well what a year it's been and a great journey we have been on since starting this project back in April, We're very happy with the progress we've made from not knowing anything about modding Em5 to where we are now, of course none of this would of been possible without our friends we've made within this amazing community such as the Bieberfelde and Ludenscheid Dev teams so once again a big thank you to these guys as none of this would of been possible without their help. We are really excited to carry on developing this project into the new year and will continue to push ourselves to build a very high quality product and of course the first UK mod for Em5

    We'd like to share a few new images with you today, one being the Skoda Octavia Scout RRV unfortunately I couldn't get the lightbar done in time for this picture and the Skoda still needs some tweaking.     It's update time again and this week has been another busy one so lets jump straight into it...

     

    First off we've got the Mercedes Sprinter LWB more or less finished ( minus the lightbar's they will be coming soon.) The Mercedes Sprinter IRU (Incident Response Unit) is jam packed with all sorts of specialized equipment

    responding to various call out however big or small.

    This week I've also been putting together a small test map mostly for the purposes of testing our new UK Road model/Infrastructure It's also been a chance for me to learn the very basics of map making ( Still a lot to learn:D )  I've put together some screenshots that we'd like to share with you, witch will give you an insight to what a future Essex Map will look like....

    So guys we've got a couple of new units to show off...Introducing the Scania 3 series cab. These are some of the older units which will be included in the mod. There is still a few of these in service. although they are being replaced with the newer Scania cab.

    This first variant is using a slightly darker red than usual and the side stripes on the cab are the older style that  Essex units used to have. On top of the cab sits the old

    Premier Hazard Maxim lightbar, with rotating lights.

    It's time for a new dev update and this is one of the bigger ones ;) So lets get started. First off lets take a look at the Volvo V90 Traffic unit featuring the Aegis lightbar, We will also include variants using the Whelen Justice.

  7. Chapter 2 Model Preparation/Export Using The BMW 5 Series As An Example

    First lets make a new folder in our workfiles folder called bmw_5_series. now when I come to export the bmw 5 series I'm going to export the model file as bmw_5_series.MESH, but before we do that we need to do some prep work in blender. But we export our 6 textures for our model in .tif format in the workfiles>bmw_5_series we can name them like this

    • bmw_5_series_c.tif (this is our colour map)
    • bmw_5_series_s.tif (this is our spec map)
    • bmw_5_series_g.tif (this is our gloss map)
    • bmw_5_series_n.tif (this is our normal map)
    • bmw_5_series_e.tif (this is our emissive map)
    • bmw_5_series_ao.tif (this is our ambinent occlusion map)

    PLEAE NOTE: It's important to use all LOWERCASE and _ for spaces as the Emergency game dosen't like it otherwise and won't work.

  8. Chapter 1 Introduction

    I'm Freelancer, one of the developers of the Essex Mod, I've been working on Em5 since April 2022, it's been a great journey so far and I've learnt a lot, I couldn't of leant any of this knowledge without the Bieberfelde Team and there amazing support and patience :P I'm not claiming to know everything about emergency 5 because I don't I'm still learning as I go. However I'd like to share everything I've leant and try and make a complete English guide on how to make a mod for Em5 (Both video and text) Hopefully this will encourage more modders to make the jump to Em5, because in my opinion it is superior to Em4. This Chapter is a brief introduction to modding Em5 and covering what you will need and preparing the workspace.

    1.0  Brief understanding of what the difference between Em4/Em5
    Em4 is really old forget everything you know about it because it don't apply to Em5. Em5 uses new game techniques and modern standards, which short term can be a pain if your not familiar with them but long term it is a lot better and easier in my opinion.
    -Many more textures map are supported in Em5
    We need 6 textures to make up a vehicle, Diffuse map ( Colour ) Specular and Gloss maps ( how shiny/metallic something is ) Normal Maps ( adds extra detail without using polygons ) Emissive Maps ( generate light, for example rear headlights,headlights,blinkers) Ambient occlusion map (generates shading on the model)  If your not familiar with some of these maps I suggest you look on google for more info
    For scripts out there, I've heard Em5 is a lot easier to write plugins for using the c++ language brining lots of new possibilities Emergency Ludenscheid is a good example of this as they have a lot of gameplaying enhancing scripts.
    Em5 models can be more detailed around 13-15K is a good pinpoint for models but some models can be more detailed, there is a max import limit of 27000K per mesh ( we can join mesh's together in the editor to go over that max limit if need )

    1.1 Lets take a look at what we need to get started. 
    I'm going to assume your using blender, I'm using the latest version 3.3.1 Emergency 4's model format was .v30 if I remember correctly but in Em5 we use .MESH files. To export .MESH Files we need the OGRE Exporter for blender wich can be downloaded here

    Installing OGRE Exporter
    There are tutorials on how to install in the link but I'll copy and paste this text here

     

    1. Copy the io_ogre folder into the $BLENDER_DIR/scripts/addons folder.
    2. 2.    Enable the addon in Blender: Edit menu > Preferences > Add-ons. Search for 'ogre' and click the box up the top left.
    3. 3.    Configure the plugin prior to the first run.
    4. 4.    Set the correct path to OGRETOOLS_XML_CONVERTER PLEASE NOTE To Find the XML Converter + Mesh Upgrader you will need the OGRE SDK With can be downloaded here MSVC SDK is the one you will want to download  https://www.ogre3d.org/download/sdk/sdk-ogre
    5. 5.    for Ogre (v1): path should point to OgreXMLConverter.exe. This can be found in the Ogre SDK
    6. 6.    for OgreNext (v2): path should point to OgreMeshTool.exe. This can be found in the OgreNext SDK
    7. 7.    OPTIONAL Set MESH_PREVIEWER to a path pointed to ogre-meshviewer.bat. This can be found in OGRECave/ogre-meshviewer
    8. 8.    Make sure that USER_MATERIALS isn't set to a directory like "C:\". The addon scans this path recursively and will crash when it hits a path it doesn't have permissions for.

    If everything is set up correctly go to edit > preferences > Search OGRE it should look something like this.

    .SVN File System
    Next we are going to create a folder on our desktop or anywhere else you like. Lets call this folder "workfiles" Next you will need to download the .svn file system

    once downloaded simply drag the .svn folder into the workfiles folder. You will not see the .svn folder in the workfiles folder once you've copied and pasted it becuase it is an invisible file. 
    This essnetially makes our workfiles folder act as a dropbox for our future models and is where we will find most the files that make up our project.

    Preparing + Understanding The Basic's Of The World Builder
    I strongly recommend you watch this video, I know it's in German but there are English subtitles available he will teach you the very basic's of using the editor and more importantly he will set up hotkeys and config the editor, I've copied there layout + hotkeys so it will make it simpler down the line.

I see the game comes with a level editor but how is the functionality for creating a brand new terrain space? Would I have to model all the terrain by hand using the editor tools, or is there a way to import something such as a height map into the editor?     Despite the really hot weather here in the UK we've still been working and we're ready to share our first East England Ambulance Service vehicle the Mercedes sprinter

    The cab received a new model built as we was planning on using an old em4 model but decided for a re build so there is no drop in quality

    Here is some pictures of the first test port, still texture tweaks to be made and more parts to be imported, equipment, wheels, lights etc..

    The Whelen Justice light bar has been added to the game and can now be seen on the Essex police bmw 5 series traffic unit 

    Next are some of our smaller map additions seen here is a typical UK traffic light and a street lamp ( more variations are on the way )

    Time for another update, first on the list is fisboe's BMW 5 Series traffic patrol car which is now all ready to go with just the lightbar left to do :)

    We also now have our own YouTube channel and have uploaded a couple of videos demonstrating some lighting work which has been done this week, We've had to use Jan moo's flares from the Bieberfelde mod team as I haven't worked out yet how to create our own.

    still need to add flashing head lights to them but we don't have our emissive textures maps set up yet, but they will be added soon :)

  14. Hello all,

     

    I'm pleased to show some work in progress images of our next fire engine, Mikeydino has been busy working on this Scania cab Scania's are one of the most common truck manufacture's for Essex Fire Service

    there are multiple variants from general appliances, ladder trucks and other more specialized purposes. Here is the Scania P280 with Angloco as the company who convert it to a fire engine. This Scania is is a fairly complex piece of geometry and one of the tougher models to recreate but Mikey has smashed it with this one. Most of the work is finished on the cab and he is now focusing on the interior whilst I can begin modelling the rear of it 

    expect to see some more image it soon as it develops...

    Southend Fire Station

    Firstly I want to show off our Fig's first Fire station for the mod and one of our larger ones, the fire station is based off Southend which is located in south east Essex

    There are other buildings to add to it which Fig has already modelled but still require textures so they will be coming soon.

     

    Whelen Edge 9M

    My current focus is currently on getting our first lightbar built and ready for game Jan Moo is assisting us with any questions that we have and offering his guidance I'm expecting progress on this to be a bit slow over

    the next week or so as we experiment with alpha textures and getting everything working correctly, but keep and eye out for updates on this one

    I've got some more news to share with you today, First off the Dennis is really taking shape now and it's getting close to a finished state. As you may of read we've had some texture issues the first time we imported something into Em5. After a few weeks of fixing and tweaking I'm happy to show off these new pictures.

    Thanks to Floh(OlfDE) who over the weekend kindly showed me how to add all the doors and lockers via the editor so that they open when crew are getting out and on scene. Although they still need to be animated 

    It's another box ticked off the to do list. Next we need to work out how to construct our lightbars and textures using alpha maps. This is so we can have the same high quality lightbars like the German mods that are currently available at the minute.

    We're very happy with how the Dennis is turning out here you can see a picture I took of the very first test port we did and how far it's come along since then .

    Also Fishboe's BMW 5 Series Estate car is getting some attention now and received it's first tests port the other day.

  17. Hello everyone,

     

    We've been a bit quiet on the forums and on our discord the last few weeks, but we've been busy working, Recently we've been importing bits and pieces into the editor and trying to gain some much needed experience on using the new Emergency 5 world builder, this though has come with it's problems, mostly with textures. When we first imported the Dennis our textures was looking nothing like what we had in our 3D software, it was way to shiny ( due to spec/gloss levels ) and our metallic parts were showing up as black, after some investigating we managed to find the cause of the issue.

    Although it's a big step up from we had the Dennis is still not quite right, there are some shading issues, some darker spots which should not be there. This is our next issue to fix. We want the Essex mod to be as high quality as possible and our textures sharp and crisp. Our main focus over the next week or so is to get the Dennis wrapped up and finished, so it can serve as a references for our future models and help speed up development time.

    Hi all,

     

    Welcome to the Essex mod page for Emergency 5. Essex is a county in the East of England. One of the home counties, it borders Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to the north, the North Sea to the east, Hertfordshire to the west, Kent across the estuary of the River Thames to the south, and Greater London to the south and south-west. The county town is Chelmsford, which is one of two cities in the county with the other being Southend-on-Sea which was granted city status on the 1st March 2022.

     

    Essex mod aims to be the first UK mod for emergency 5, and build a good foundation for other potential UK mods in the future, we are still in early stages of development, Essex mod is a submod to Ludenscheid so because of this 

    we'll be able to share/use most of really good scripts/plugins that really enhance the emergency experience. We really are grateful that we are allowed to do this as I know how much time and effort the LDS team have put into their mod, they continually push the boundaries of the Emergency engine creating the best mod for Emergency 5 to date. I'd also like to give a special mention the the Bieberfelde team for helping me initially get started in Emergency 5 and helping me walk through my first steps in modding this game.

    Also my good friend "fishboe" who has worked with me on other mods for various games is also part of this development team and is making excellent progress on a BMW 5 Series Estate 2019. More pictures to come soon
