I know a famous person from my city whose dad suffered from lung cancer for many years and when his father died he quited smoking. Yeah making it illegal would probably don't make any sense rather than causing problems.

We are in the same situation here so it's not only a US problem. You are right making it illegal would do the things you said but raising the prices wouldn't change anything regarding the crime rates.

It's "illegal" to smoke in nightclubs, bars, restaurants etc but it's still legal to smoke outside of these buildings plus many people don't respect the law as they won't get arrested by PD if they smoke.
Isn't it better to go for a drink and breathe fresh air(as fresh it can be) instead of breathing smoke? Obviously... I would love to see more opinions on that

I agree but in a way of thinking smoking is the cause of death of million people every year, it's addictive and it also pollutes the environment. If they don't make it illegal they can raise the prices so much that only a few people can buy them.
Is true that use of weed is legal in The Netherlands? God if that happened here we would have serious problems...
