Question about editing the "freeplaybase" file...

Recommended Posts

I know that the freeplaybase file is the file that controls the fleet selection and options. And I've noticed that from time to time and that this file gets changed or updated to reflect the features in the installed Mod. I usually go into that file and give myself more units by changing the number to a higher number. But sometimes, there will be a "0" on some of the units in that file. Is this normal? Is there a reason why someone's Mod would make something a "0"? Does it slow down the game if I decide to put a number there?

For example: <vehicle prototype="mod:Prototypes/Vehicles/02 LA Fire Department/usfs_utility.e4p" count="0" />

That 0 means that when you load the freeplay, you see the vehicle in the menu, but own 0 of them. This means before you can deploy it, you'd have to buy one.

I usually go through the same file and give myself 3 or 4 of each vehicle, but some people (eg the mod creaters) prefer their own setups and that might be why they set to zero.

Setting the count to higher shouldn't lag the game, it just sets how many units of that type you can deploy on the map before buying more. :)

Can I delete that entire string so that the vehicle doesn't even show up in the list? Is that possible? (The list seems too long at times and I don't use about 20% of the fleet.)

Basically, there's all kinds of units in most mods that aren't put in freeplay because they can't be used or whatever... for that reason then, it is not included in the base.

The file jsut give a link to what prototype to send and how many you start with.

Techincally, you could spawn anything, if you give it a spawn point and a command. Thing is, not everything is controllable so it's highly recommended to stick to what's already there, and not add.

Ah cool. Well, I've deleted quite a few vehicles that really don't serve me well during any of the gameplay missions or freeplay.
