  1. Just wondering how people are getting on with SJA Connect since the members site was taken down?
  2. Mod looks great, and RIP to those that died in the attack and thoughts to everyone else injured/involved. hope there's justice for all involved.
  3. Glad to see things are still progressing, apoligies for not being here for a while.
  4. Just though I'd share my latest SJA related content: (Updated version of the SDU Uniform here: http://i76.servimg.com/u/f76/16/72/80/28/sja_sd10.jpg)
  5. "My Division" Our (ex) County had 2 ambulances. that was for EVERY Division.
  6. Long overdue, Our fleet of 2 crusaders are 11 years old. They're being turned into F/A posts with the new ones being shared between Event cover and Patient transport for the NHS
  7. most services require you to have a license and a car to work for them as a responder, But not for the training itself. Sometimes the high ups need a kick up the backside to get things going with SJA As proven by a brilliant manager that has just got us 8 new crusaders
  8. Hopefully they'll sort it out soon, I know SJA is still in the process of changing how it runs, We've been running as a Region for a few months now, but i know others are still in the process of changing over. Our cadets are due for training on the AED course (As stated by the "any cadet over the age of 11 will get trained to used AED") If you're unhappy, speak with your Leader and ask them to contact the Youth Team to try and get this sorted, as we're all volunteers, it's no fun being offered additional training, then it to be denied "because we say so"
  9. Surely there was a legit reason to cancel it? otherwise it would be slightly unfair. If i have to cancel something for my cadets, I always make sure to re arrange it and inform them of the reasons why. How is everyone btw? Not posted for a while
  10. Just for those wanting to test their knowledge of First Aid http://www.sja.org.uk/christmasgame/?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=DR1309+NHQ+Newsletter+Dec+2012
  11. thanks for the info always interesting to find out how things work around the world
  12. Wow sounds really impressive is EMT-B a basic tech or does the B stand for something else? also, could you post how the crewing works? I know here (In my region anyway) It's usually a Para and an Emergency Care Assistant (They removed the EMT role for a cheaper lower qualified role ECA) or a Para / Emergency Care Practitioner (Advanced para) on a single response car, would be a real insight on how the US ems service work
  13. Was being specific to an area, We're literally everywhere planning a trip for the cadets to the museum in London to learn more about our history, just expensive coach costs And really? They don't do first aid :o
  14. Fun fact, SJA has divisions in the united states, Just shows, We're everywhere. It's all very basic tbh, and centered mostly around communication, one important key factor that people forget (My students in sja will never forget that now ) Can find out *ALOT* from just speaking to somebody. So what's involved with being an American EMS Cadet?
  15. regarding the abdo pain, first thing i'd do is clear the room, easier to treat. then get history, happen before? what was she doing leading up to the incident? Then ask a rather embarrassing question regarding period pain (Had casualties before with same symptoms) determine where the pain is located/radiating from (to see if there's a possibility of an appendicitis) I wouldn't attempt a diagnosis (as that isn't our job) once i've got a history / have an idea of the possible problems, determine if the level of pain warrants an emergency ambulance or other method of transportation then take from there.
  16. wow. Sounds painful and funny Was an elderly patient that had a fall with previous medical conditions that gave high cause for concern regarding the circumstances of the situation (all i can say really) End result was good though, and people are morons. We had the police cordon off half the street for us, with barriers and a vehicle, Yet people still tried to cut through then got mouthy when they were told to go around... no respect these days
  17. fair enough Met, Goodluck if you join at a later date, and BARC, hope all is well, Got wedged in a bus shelter waiting for ambulance backup the other night, tight squeeze with me, The patient, the patients reluctant to give space family and all the kit. Was bloody freezing too.
  18. 2 miles isn't actually that far (in my opinion) I travel 16 miles to mine. Anyways, got a duty on new years day, looking forward to that.
  19. I think a change in title would probably be welcome, as it's turned from "Get to know other cadets" to general SJA chat, but not being the thread creator, can't request it. Just my idea on it. Trousers are usually favored amongst organisation as they're more practical, But i do know that SJA used to allow Cadets to wear Skirts (Not sure about kilts, wouldn't want to flash your patient your party piece)
  20. As a Unit leader for Cadets, i feel i can answer the above (following what we do) when a Cadet firs joins, they can expect to do the below: -Membership award (when they first join) - First Aid course - Grand Prior Awards (held at the unit during meetings) Once they've completed the relevant courses, they're invited to go out on public First Aid duties where they can treat under supervision with adult members and build on their knowledge of F/A. They're also able to continue on to more courses to progress such as Cadet Trainer, Leading cadet just to name a few. (Hope this relates to your question)
  21. Can't give out the exact details, But they bought incorrect items for their role and went out and impersonated that role on a public event. Also, EDIT to my above post, By not SJA Member, I meant full member, Again, avoiding specifics.
  22. Interesting to get a Trade post, Glad you mentioned proof of membership to SJA, would hate an impersonation charge to come about (I've witnessed 1 case where someone was in deep sh... for wearing SJA items when they were not SJA.
  23. Will say, SJA have actually come through positively. I've requested a fund raiser pack and some items to use, with only a weeks notice. The person that should have delivered the items went off sick, so the fundraising officer drove all the way down to my local HQ, and gave me £50+ worth of fundraising goodies, certainly a step in the right direction for SJA. Commitment of those in the right places.
  24. The best thing to do, even if you are amazing at First Aid, But don't hold a current valid certificate, is to get one just for the cover it provides. With SJA, If you cripple someone but have done everything right within your qualification, You're insured by SJA for one, and you have a Certificate of your qualification, so you're pretty much covered from any legal action, as you've done what is nationally recognised as the current correct method.
