  1. my laptop does the same thing it may be because your computer has issues handling the game my big computer doesnt do that at all

That's not always the case. My laptop did the same thing, it had everything set to low, shadows off, etc. I turned everything on, graphics to medium and it alleviated the problems. I'm assuming low for everything isn't the best, try moving things to med and see what happens.

  2. When I first started and it was just a re-skin,I had done all the units. But as we progressed , realism became our main goal and we had to keep only units that were in Surrey.

Most of the units you mentioned except for the large rescue ambulance were dropped from the mod or replaced with units that are used here and in Canada.for example no HES of LEV,in Canada most cities just have a dedicated rescue engine instead as is the case in Surrey

On the other hand I included more police units to realistically portray the many police services of the lower mainland area.

This mod will NOTbe released on January 01/2012...as I mentioned a few times already.

The estimated release date was embedded into the banner on the homepage. However, if everyone took the time to read back four pages you can find the same quote I did.

On that same note why is everyone so impatient? They do this in their spare time, we don't pay them. They could release a shitty looking mod and call it quits, or they could refuse to release it period. Instead their taking their time and trying to make it realistic, so be patient and relax.

  3. Ah yes the Paddywagon debate, there are a few theories on this. One was when the Irish immigrants came over the police force at the time was predominantly German members and they would pick up drunken rowdy Irish people or "Paddy" which was slang for "Patrick" a good Irish name.

Also at the time the police forces became mainly Irish members and were referred to as a Paddywagon in that it was a vehicle driven by an Irishman.

I'm a proud Canadian with half Scottish and Irish descendants and the term paddywagon is not in the least offensive to me...the RCMP refer to them as a Bunner Bus.

I know exactly how it came about my family is a mixture of German, and Irish / Scottish. It doesn't affect me one bit either, just though I'd make that point. Bunner Bus is an interesting name.

  4. It works on a trigger that when a model of a certain type passes through, it checks what's on the map, and then spawns from a list. When it returns to exit through that point, it drives through the trigger again, and becomes the original vehicle, so the unit count is right

I appreciate you explaining how his code works. However, I was hoping he would share his secret, or at best I was hoping someone else knew how to do something similar. I'm not good at finding these types of things within the script. I can "mess around" with different parts, and learn that way. Other than that I'm not that good. I mean, as it stands I'm still learning how to reskin, and use zmod to it's full potential.

  5. I do apologize for the crappy title but I wasn't sure how I should explain my dilemma.

If anyone has played the New York Modification by Mikey than they will know what I am talking about. If you were too call duplicate units each unit would have a different skin.

I want to do something similar with my mod. Right now I am working on a New Castle mod based off units in New Castle County (my home state of Delaware). We have a lot of local police units, each with their own skins, and some counties with multiple skins. If I was too call a sheriff twice I want both cars to have a different skin (not the same skin like in the LA mod).

I hope everyone understands what I am trying to explain. I've tried to re frame from being redundant, but I wanted to be as clear and precise as I could.

  6. I would have them do inner-city beat patrol and parks enforcement/bylaws.

I suppose I should have elaborated more. I remember you guys once talked about creating a new map to replace the original LA map. Since I haven't seen any screen shots I didn't know where you all stood on that aspect. Thus, I was still under the impression the original map would be used which isn't tailored for horses. Which lead me to make that comment. Now if a map was created I can see where mounted police could be useful, and I am sure it could be done.

  7. I would like to take this opportunity to answer to your concerns, Mr. Sgt. You may disagree with my methods, but I see you're still one of the more mature ones here, which is something I respect and value these days. By no means shall I ban you unless you cross the proverbial line, and no, unlike what you may believe, disagreeing with me or any other moderator is not grounds for banishment.

The funny thing here is that a lot of members of the site praise the moderating team for bringing a humorous touch to what they do, and having a very low tolerance for childish behaviors. And then again, another lot of members despise us, roughly for the same reasons. So I'd then to say the truth is somewhere in between.

I do not know if I have been here long enough to be considered in the "high status" realm, but I do know this. In my time here, at least in the initial stages I got into my fair share of arguments with Newfoundking, and Mikey. Most were minor, but a few resulted in a warning or two. Of course that was than, and I have changed since then also. Unfortunately, as Voodoo has said it is almost a war of two sides. On one side you have those who are over 18, those are usually staff members, and those who create mods. These members are usually mature, outgoing, and obey the rules. While on the other side you have those who aren't over 18. They are rude, rash, derogative, and usually end up being banned. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule. People like yourself (Sgt.) are the exception, those are members who do care, they are mature, and respectful. As I see it myself, I am like everyone else. I do not want to read three or four pages of flaming, and I like the humor that the moderators add. Professionalism is one thing, but at times I believe people deserve a taste of their own medicine. This can be debated, but I think the mods here do a fine job of being professional, and down to earth. But, as I have mentioned before this is only my two cents.

  8. Well it's good to hear that after all this time you guys haven't given up on the mod. After a few years replay value for a game might die off, mods keep it alive in essence. I'm very pleased with your work so far and after you release the mod maybe i'll be able to get back into EM4.

Indeed, I completely agree. EM4 remains supreme ruler over emergency 2012 because it allows for modifications. Without them EM4 would quickly get redundant.

  9. "RED WATCH" was a name change so it more represents the 3 services involved in the game as opposed to just the RCMP.But it still is referred to by both names.

As far as the date 01/01/12,it was a tentative date and because of a new map, calls, ect. it will be worked on until completed. When we get farther in to working on what is left we can give a better estimate of a release date.

Oh your fine, I don't care when it is released. I've been busy with my own life so I wasn't sure if I missed something. I know you and CFD has turned this mod into something specular was I was just checking to see if that was a real date, or just an approximated one. I appreciate the clarification though, and look forward to future pics, etc.

  10. Todd is right on most parts, he just missed a few. So the Alberta Sheriffs are responsible for --

    - Alberta security and strategic intelligence support team (ASSIST): Manages counter-terrorism security information and intelligence and develop threat assessments

    - Court Security and Prisoner Transport

    - Executive protection service

    - Facilities security

    - Fugitive Apprehension Sheriff Support Team (FASST)

    - Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Unit (SCAN)

    - Sheriffs Investigative Support Unit (SISU)

    - Sheriff Operations Communications Centre (SOCC)

    - Traffic Sheriffs: provides highway enforcement, education and awareness initiatives. Traffic Sheriffs are deployed to reduce high-risk driving behavior. To help improve traffic enforcement on our highways, Alberta Sheriffs and RCMP Traffic Services are integrating traffic resources around the province.

p.s So disappointed in Vancouver's hooligans. I watched the Live coverage last night, and witnessed so many idiocy that have harmed Canada's reputation.

RCMP Wins - Flawless Victory If that was Luongo, it would of gone right through? his legs.

This riot was pre-planned by the same idiots who consistently protest g8 and g20 meetings and also tried too riot during the olympics,if you see videos, what hockey fan goes to cheer for his team with scarfs covering their faces, bottles of gasoline and hammers to break windows? The police said in arrests made, they were previous offenders of rioting...Sure there were some fans but those were the drunk, young males, who under a bad combination(alcohol and depression) acted un-accordingly(hence the saying mob mentality)

Most of the real fans and Vancouverites are embarrassed and disgusted by the actions of a few F*CKHEADS,which sums it up.

To the police and fire personnel who were there..great job!!!

p.s.don't judge a great city by the acts of a few scumbags

Oh don't worry it doesn't stop there. Anti Canadian American hate is flying all over Youtube, quite pitiful for everyone, Canadians more I'd assume since you guys are on center stage. Either way, I think it's both a good, and bad idea to create a mission based of this riot. From the missions aspects it would be fun, from the history aspect I'm sure most Canadians will want to forget this pretty damn fast.

  11. Import the V3O files into Zmod and you can view/manipulate them.. V3O=model file the game uses... Usually cars are torn into wheel(s) door(s) and main body... Then you can manipulate the vehicle completely.. I do believe there are tutorials/questions asked that cover most "basic" features you'd want to do in reskinning/modding a vehicle already scattered on the forum or under the tutorials section.

Zmod does have a bit of a learning curve but if you know no other modeling software learning on zmod would be no more difficult.

UV mapping is the thing that a model has that tells it what parts of it's model are associated to the texture(s) and how they are oriented on the texture.... Think of it as a 2D representation of the 3D model which the texture is linked to.... No UV mapping=no textures on the car.

Ah I see. One of my friends has a register version of it so I'll take a shot at it. I can't do any wrong, I'll back up my work. If I mess up oh well, I'll restart and remember not to do what I did to begin with. Best way to learn I suppose.

  12. The reason for the blotching/blurring is usually compression settings in the DDS converter it's self, other formats can be compressed as well but more compression=smaller file at the cost of quality... The reason Nnico's vic looks different isnt just the format, it is also the size of the texture, a larger texture provides you with a higher resolution in which to work on... Given the fact this game is old and you're usually zoomed out, all the quality in the world doesnt matter since the game automatically compresses everything regardless of what you do... Such is how it works.

IF you have a detail that is very elaborate and it pixelates too much, with zmod you can always remap the part you're putting the writing onto giving it a larger space.. Rather advanced task but a worthwhile one since rarely will a UV map be perfect for what you're doing... Especially if it's one of my cars (I do it on purpose because of how I make em)...

Z-mod 2 is the app which is required to edit the V3O model files, and more importantly Export them... It is a rather important program if you're going to take a mod to appropriate levels, without having zmod you can't change components on a vehicle unless it's a slicktop and you add the lights as a child in the editor... The problem with doing that is that the lights float on the car meaning that when the car moves/stops the lightbars will float around a bit... idk why the dev's made em do that but it's what they do, probrably because that feature was meant for ladders and cranes not for little details.

Thank You again .. :) I more question, for now anyway. Suppose I decided to try using zmod (which I probably will), how do I open a unit in zmod? Better yet do we have tuts?

PS: I hate to be dumb, but the only way to learn is to ask questions so .. What is UV Mapping?

  13. that car that is used is by Nniko and its texture is a PNG file i think. the PNG is ok in my opinion but there is nothing wrong with the dds files that come from LA Mod.

here is one of my reskins. take a look and you be the judge. its all about the person doing the work.

i used pieces i gathered from many sources for my reskins.

True, I suppose. Your work looks fine. I do have one question though. When you save a file, and reopen it do the colors appear to fade, or overlap in certain places? I noticed if I reopen a .dds file the original colors appear to fade, or "bleed" into a section next to it. I was just wondering if that is common or not.

  14. Before I begin I'd like to thank Mikey, and company for answering my questions about .dds files, and lights in my last topic. Apparently I was a bit of a slow learner, but after using some of everyone's advice I was able to convert the files. That of course was the easy part, since then I've ran into a few smaller issues.

For example, this is my engine post-3241-0-90321000-1308074705_thumb.jp

for a beginner I suppose it isn't bad, but I can't stand the decals. The decal on the door says "Clark County Fire Dept.", and it looks blurry. I downloaded the decal from the internet, and rescaled it (I use paint.net), unfortunately the text quality deteriorated. To counter this I decided to hand write the text on myself, which is what I did with the words "Paramedic", unfortunately it still turns out blurry.

Which confuses me! How can THIS CAR have such clear, small writing and my looks like crap :(. I can read crime stoppers on it, and I can barely read my own writing what do I need to do to get my engines writing to look like that cars writing.

Also, Light Bars. In every mod, etc I see people using different light bars on their engine, or patrol car. I've been told I need to use zmodeler, or add the light bars as a child. Of course new lingo -- zmod / child confuses me. So I was hoping someone could clarify how everyone changes their light bars around.
