  1. I agree that this is a valid solution. It's usually what I do. But again; the flashlight could be a nice addition, since it adds a bit of realism. One could imagine police officers exiting the patrol car, and activate their flashlight. This would add a small cone of light right in front of them, and the user could turn it on/off with a button in the commandbar. On the other hand; it's not really usefull, it's another lightning source that need to be rendered, and it's timeconsuming to make. Probably not as time consuming as making a vehicle, but non the less...
  2. One thing about the flashlight-issue: I can't really see a use for it, other than the obvious lightning supplied by it. But in what cases do you really use the floodlights etc to light up areas? I rarely use it, except at when big masses of people are gathered and I need to distinguish my rescue personel from civilians. Since there really are no incidents in Emergency where you have to for example search for a burglar or inspect a vehicle at night, the flashlight becomes more or less an eyecandy. Sure, it's realistic that a police officer would carry a flashlight around, but when would you use it? The alternative is to have flashlights activate automatically at nighttime, but that might just look ridiculous... I'm a bit torn here.
  3. 1. Exploded Gas Pipe I usually send the Light Force + a BLS/ALS-engine, depends on what I have at hand. For realism I also send the BC wherever the Light Force goes, so he acts as incident commander over there. I also dispatch 1 ALS ambulance, and 1-2 police patrols to control crowd and traffic. 2. MVA I send 1 ALS engine, a Heavy Rescue-truck w/ 2 FF/PM's, and 2 or more BLS ambulances. I also send 1-2 police units to direct traffic. If I feel like, I dispatch the BC to supervise. 3. Unknown type fire I send 1 engine, whichever type I have available for call. If the fire gets out of hand for some reason, I dispatch the Light Force and the BC to supervise. Police units are called as needed for crowd and traffic control. 4. Active Shooter Usually a normal police patrol can get the situaton under control, but a SWAT-team is more fun. Snipers, flashbangs... Whatever springs to my mind first. I don't really like this incident, so I try to get them off my list as soon as I can. I wanna take this opportunity to remind the users of this forum that I have a similar post somewhere in this forum, about styles of play in Freeplay. Here it is, go ahead and submit your style there. Always fun to read about how other people handle this magnificent game/mod!
  4. There we are. Thanks a lot! To get back on topic; blt950, if you need any help/advice/whatever for Norwegian terms or anything, feel free to PM me any time. I'll help if I can! That goes for the NorwayMod too.
  5. Even though there is no rule against it, you shouldn't necessarily do it. Use your logic, don't think going around playing moderator will make you a popular chap.
  6. Sorry, but I didn't notice your sign saying you're a mod? Don't blow a gasket, I think the OP would have reacted if he though his topic was being littered with offtopic posts. Besides, a Norwegian mod is kind of related to this topic...
  7. Are you kidding, is there really a Norway-mod? Ôô Got any info on it? Maybe I could contribute in some way... EDIT: I found it.
  8. I can relate, I don't speak dutch, imagine how curious I am around this forum sometimes! ^^
  9. Sorry pyrothijs, I can translate it for you so you don't feel left out. It simply says: "I don't know how to make a mod, if I did I'd start a project of one myself..." In my first post I said: "Cool seeing other Norwegians playing EM4 with mods!" Hope that clarifyed some things! ^^
  10. Not to go off topic here, but what exactly is your mod? And where can one find it?
  11. If you wanna make a translation then I say go ahead, if Hoppah thinks it's okay. (Jeg kan ikkeno om å lage mod'er selv, ellers skulle jeg satt igang et prosjekt...)
  12. Wouldn't it be very hard to make a good translation of all the american terms? I would rather like to see a Norwegian mod! (Artig å se flere nordmenn som spiller EM4 med mods!)
  13. Does anyone have a translated manual? I just got started with this mod, and I'm both impressed and confused. I can't really make out what to do at different incidents yet, like in a big fire. Most of the time my personell just hangs around waiting for me to command... Even so, I think it's a mod worth the time to get used to. I just really wish there was an all-english version... EDIT: Managed my first fire today! But I have discovered my main problem; half the time I don't know what units to dispatch. In LA-Mod I would always know, because the names are fitting and I have experience with them. For example, an ambulance is called something like 12-78-1 (random numbers, but you get the point). Is it supposed to be like this? Someone have names, and someone are called rd123 etc. Is there any good rule of thumb for what units to use where? Anyone got some tutorial on this mod that I can understand? That is, in english...
  14. No guessing where my Standy-units are gonna be parked from now on. ^^ Nice map Hoppah, keep up the good work. I've enjoyed all your work up to now, so I guess this isn't gonna be a letdown either. Hehe... On a sidenote, about the gas prizes; here in Norway, a gallon of gas is (roughly calculated) about 6.65 USD in todays currency. 1 liter of gas costs about 12 NOK (Norwegian Kroner), which equals about 1.76 USD. So no worries there!
  15. Hehe, yea I do the same thing with the cops and SCBA-FF's. Thanks!
  16. Ah, I see. I didn't remember that, thanks alot. So I guess, in Freeplay, there's no real situation where the SCBA is necessary?
  17. Yea, I guessed on that. Sorry, should have mentioned in the first post. I've been testing this out, and i can't really see a difference in sending a FF with or without the SCBA gear into a house. Indoor fires is the only environiment I have experienced to be filled with smoke due to a fire, so I wonder if the SCBA gear is just for the realism?
  18. I'm still amazed by all the different styles of play out there, i'ts really great to see how people appreciate and utilize the options in this great game! Now that version 1.8 is out; is there anyone out there who have found an efficient way of using the Standby-command? I haven't really though of a good use for it yet, exept unclogging my stations... ^^
  19. I've been wondering; exactly what does the SCBA gear do? How does it effect the FF's that wears it, and in which situations is it most useful? I usually have FF's put on their SCBA gear when entering structures on fire, or in a forest fire. Anyone care to enlighten me?
  20. Yea, this is the only way I stop stolen cars. I've tried using the spike strips, but I've never really been able to get it in place early enough for the suspect to hit it.
  21. Hehe, that would essentially sum up the best tactic for the fire incidents, I guess. Thanks alot!
  22. I think I want to try that Lightning Strike-modification too, it sounds really... interesting. ^^ On a sidenote, I usually hate dealing with forest fires. They spread out of hand too quickly, but, maybe I´m just not using enough engines!
  23. If you mouse over the event after pressing Tab to bring up the Manager, you can see what is recommended.
  24. Sounds like a good set of tactics! I have to admit I've rarily used the ladder truck, I've never seen the point except in the cases with jumpers from the windows. But, now that I've started playing a bit more realism-orientated games, I've found that it's quite useful for controlling fires, as they can bypass fences etc. that the firefighters otherwise had to go a long way to get to. I also like the gated wye, I use it alot to get more firefighters into tight spots like backyards and city squares. One thing; alot of the equipment, like the traffic vest, the cones and flares etc, I never of rarely use. If I have a CHP-unit patrolling the raods, I usually give them the traffic vests because it suits their line of work and looks more realistic. Since I live in Norway, I guess there is quite a difference in how the police operate compared to the US, but here the police officers on traffic duty almost always wear traffic vest in bright yellow reflecting material.
  25. Wow, there is a lot of different and interesting styles of play out there! Some good ideas here I might pick up. Hehe... Since we're already discussing tactics; anyone wanna share how they solve big fires, like forest fires, gas explosion etc? Do you go for realism, or just pour in units until the money runs out or the fire is extinguished? I personaly try to go for realism, sending in one engine and maybe a ladder for regular house fires, and one engine + USAR-truck for car accidents and other situations needing equipment besides the hoses and/or extinguisher. I also block of roads with police units, and make them send away any civilians. Ambulances and other units are called as needed.
