I have a hard time modeling

I created a surface,now how do I create polygons,the polygon thing won't work.

After you make your surface, click 'polygons' under 'create', then 'single'. then, up at the top, you see the 5 figures next to each other? 4 boxes and a weird shape with lines? click the 2nd one. It's a blue box that when you scroll over it says 'vertex'. Then, click on the side you want to make polygons on. A red dot should appear on each corner of the surface. From there, create your polygons hope this helps
