After an hour of searching for suspected burglar Aldophus Martin Hughes Jr., Titusville police found him hiding in the trunk of a patrol car.

Police said they had arrested Hughes, 18, in a burglary of a home about 1 p.m. Monday in the Plantation Oaks subdivision. He is also being charged with attempting to escape and criminal mischief after Hughes, in handcuffs, managed to pull back the seat and maneuver into the trunk of the patrol car.

"Thats a first for us," said Lt. Todd Hutchinson.

He said all vehicles would be inspected immediately and seats would be reinforced.

Police originally believed Hughes had fled and began searching the area with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office helicopter and dogs.

I wonder what he thought he was accomplishing. Did he think that the police car wouldn't go back to the police station just because he wasn't in the back seat and was hiding in the trunk. One quick thing though, the story said they started searching the area with K9. wouldn't the dogs hit upon his scent in the trunk when they got his scent out of the patrol car?
