Has anyone successfully edited a person model?

Yo guys, wondering if anyone has managed to edit a person model yet, looking to edit the standard FF from LA mod and add a tank on his back, as most FF carry the pack even without a mask on. Anyone able to lend a hand or can tell me they've achieved something similar? :)
