  1. I think the thing people need to remember is, E4 form E3 was not a big change, at all. IT's the mods that do it. Give it time, once the community gets the understanding of the world editor (which is night and day from the current) we'll start producing little things. It just takes time.

I agree. As far as the game itself goes, I look at it the same way I look at Em4. I don't care for vanilla all that much (I'll still play it for MP/when I need a break from features), it's the mods that make it (or will make it) really go far. My only issue with Em5 is the optimization and performance issues, which are being addressed and have a little more ways to go. I'm sure they can fix it though, as they have made some good steps so far.

  2. Can you upload your dxdiag and logfile.txt files so we can diagnose the issue a little better?

    To get the dxdiag file:

    1. Press Windows key+R to bring up the Run dialog2. Type "dxdiag" (without quotes) into the "Open" box and hit enter3. In the "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" window that pops up, click the button on the bottom right that says "Save All Information"4. Save the "DxDiag.txt" file somewhere (like your desktop)

The "logfile.txt" file should be in the Emergency 4 directory (or something close to this):

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\911firstresponders\
  3. In regards to Windows 8, I'd have to agree with MikeyPI. The start menu is really the only pain, but with the Windows 8.1 update, they kinda fixed some of the really frustrating issues, returning/adding some of the "desktop" features to the MetroUI itself. On a side note, Windows 9 10 looks like a good return to the traditional desktop, but with a bit of MetroUI mixed in a better way (IMO). In regards to compatibility regarding my experience with Windows 8.1, I've had no problem running any applications that would've run on Windows XP, except for the ms-dos apps. I wish those would run in some cases, but it's not really necessary for most (i.e. 99.9%) of what I do.

Windows 8 is cheaper than Windows 7 in most cases I've seen, and with the (negligible, IMO) differences between the two, I'd stick with Windows 8 for a new computer. Just my $0.02. :P

  4. I think the whole building disappear when close thing is an important playability feature. Nothing is worse than having a bunch of tall buildings blocking your view and you have to maneuver your camera around to see your personnel.

I agree. After playing around with it enough, having the houses disappear when working a scene helped quite a bit.

I would support it being a game option though, hopefully that wouldn't be too difficult to implement.

  5. Two bugs after patch 1.2 was installed. I don't know if these were prior to the patch or not, but they do exist after.

Bug #1 - Redirection by police during Search and Rescue mission

Location: On the Munich map, towards the bottom of the map in the middle. Along the road where cars are traveling in a south-west direction, within two car lenths of the intersection that the forest resides on. (the intersection is north-east of the forest).

Specifics: While redirecting civilian cars with a police officer, the civ. cars stop, start, stop, start, etc. When they begin moving on each start, it literally looks like they are either just jumping forward and then back, or they are moving forward an inch.

    Bug #2 - Vehicle follow-cam

Specifics: When following vehicles with the cam-follow button, the cursor icon that appears on the vehicle (not the mouse cursor itself) jumps back and forth like the cars used to.

    Edit:

Performance begins to degrade about 30 minutes into gameplay (freeplay) for me. I get about the same performance as prior to the patch when it degrades.

  6. The patch has improved performance quite a bit for me. The FPS still dips, but not near as much as it used to (or as often it seems).

Thanks for the update, and thanks for posting to let us all know! :)

    Edit:

Unfortunately, the FPS begins to degrade seemingly terribly about 30 minutes into gameplay (freeplay). I played with settings on low and resolution at 1600x900 for about 30 minutes before things started acting as they did prior to the patch.

  7. Hello,

Yesterday i bought 911 first responders with steam, its only €5,- so i hoped it would not crash to desktop with this version. To bad, it still does.

I did run the Intel driver update utillity, changed the resolution of the game to 1600x900, and i do have all graphic settings on low.

I'm kind off out of solutions here, anyone can take a look on my logfiles?attachicon.gifDxDiag.txtattachicon.giflogfile.txt

Are you trying to run a particular mod by any chance? From the looks of the logfile, it seems as though you are. Can you delete the logfile.txt and then run Em4 vanilla and update us from there?

Not sure if the game even supports resolution this high. Try on lower and see how that works.

It does. I run mine at a higher resolution with no issues. You just have to manually set it in the em4.cfg file.

  8. I must have missed the post somewhere, but is there a reason I can't like posts? I would've saved the forum space and just hit the "Like This" button (only three times!). :P

Excellent post again. I've seen quite a few others mention the same thing in regard to the patching of games these days. I find it rather sad that Emergency 5 has received 48% of its reviews as negative on Steam. I can't help but feel that a large (perhaps not majority, but quite close) amount of the user base is dissapointed. Granted, not all those reviews are soley because of optimization issues, but quite frankly most of them ARE because of the optimization issues and numerous bugs.

  9. can you explain how? :)

I don't know what other files were tweaked, but as far as shadows go, you should be able to disable them by editing this file:

    C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Promotion Software GmbH\EMERGENCY 5\emergency_5_settings.json

Scroll down to around line 45 and set "Shadows" to "false".

  10. Anyone know how to change the resolution in the game? The resolution slot in the options are blank for me.

You can edit the resolution manually by editing this file: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Promotion Software GmbH\EMERGENCY 5\emergency_5_settings.json

It should be on lines 22 and 23.

  11. To everyone having issues with performance: lower your screen resolution down... That is the area that is most strongly affecting your lagging unfortunately.  This game appears to try to use the highest your res supports but that isnt a good idea.

I've done that, but unfortunately it still lags. I know I don't have a top-of-the-line video card, but it is capable of running just as demanding programs at a higher resolution than the lowest I can with Em5, and not have near as many (if any) frame rate issues.

  12. The game runs at a low framerate, regardless of graphics quality setting.

The in-game textures are unreadable and smudged on low quality. The dispatcher's face is somewhat grotesque as well.

The editor runs at 14-16 FPS with no map loaded and default graphics quality.

The editor runs at 4-7 FPS with a map (Munich) loaded and default graphics quality.

The editor runs at 15-29 FPS with no map loaded and graphics quality set to low (in as many places as I found).

    Computer Specifications

    OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit

    CPU: i7-4700MQ @ 2.4GHz

Video Card: nVidia GeForce GT 745M 2GB

    RAM: 16GB DDR3

    Resolution: 1600x900 (1920x1080 max.)

    Run via Steam

    Edit

After the patch was applied, I didn't notice any improvements in performance.

    Edit 2

    Specific Bugs (prior to patch):

    • Following vehicles with the camera is very choppy. They appear to jump back and forth while moving on the road.
    • A firefighter walked through the corner of the fire truck.
    • The emergency vehicles stop while partially inside each other. They also go right through each other while moving.
    • Vehicles are rotating 45/90/180 degrees on a dime.
    • While redirecting traffic with a police officer, the civilian car turned 45 degress in a couple of inches, went about 20 feet, then turned 180 degrees back towards its original location (before redirection), causing the rest of the cars that were being redirected to jam while (apparently) doing the same thing.
  13. I'd have no problem joining/playing with a clan, but the mic option is out the window for me. (I have one but due to other reasons can not use one right now.)

I've exchanged steam names with other players in the past, so we can play now and again doing that. I just thought I'd offer it and see if anyone else is interested as well right now.

  14. Anyone up for some Emergency 4 multiplayer? I'm willing to do other mods (and vanilla), but currently have:

    • Harbor City 4.3 Public
    • BoF Brooklyn
    • Boston 2014
    • Los Angeles v2.1
    • Manchester v1.0.1 MP
    • Mayberry v1.2 MP
    • West Coast Canadian

Maybe we can exchange emails or Steam names, else just communicate here on Emergency-Planet to setup games/etc.
