  1. Questions to some people....

Do you think that the roads should have dirt on the paint?

Do you think the paint need to look more real?

    What do you think?

    post-2201-1212611611_thumb.png

This is a Japanese Warning Turn road.

Japan do have nice roads... The paint on the roads look always new in major cities and highways.

  2. I kind of like the whole highway idea.... A mission that you have to catch many speeders in rush hour. But the has to be a really long map?

Also I like the Speeder mission in EM3. Some thing else like that can be cool.

Oh! a mission to catch people Street Racing...

Maybe a classic for the first EM.... Soccer Riot! Where you keep the reds away from the blues. lol

    :sorrysign:

    Wow! Those are cool!

You should see the bigger engines... The small ones are use for small fires and hard to get into areas. Can't have big truck every where... They even have a built in computer in them that has a map of the city. The computer has a link to the city's Command center. That will display all units.

Oh thats one of the newer ambulance with strobe lights... Strobe lights are kind of new over there. I seen those raceing do in heavy traffic alot.

That one of the newer police squad cars... A Toyota Crown... They are very nice inside... Japanese squad cars are nice and clean. Oh! And lights will raise from the box and its like 3 feet taller in from the car. So that on coming traffic can see. I wish it had the newer paint job like in Tokyo. They had to put "Police" on the side of the car and add a "Police Badge".... To tell English people that's a Police Car. If they can't see that?

    Pretty neat it is! :1046275747_biggthumpup:

  4. The cool thing about maps are that you can always remove them at first, just name the file something the game does not really use like TEST and when the game creates the base texture, nothing will be overwritten or anything like that so you can just delete the test map it created and try again with your original TGA file untill you are satisfied with your scale. You do not have to have a completed map in order to test certain aspects of the map for scaling or appearance in the editor, so what you can do (which is how I did it) would be to create 4-5 road segments that are a bit long and just make each one different than the ones before it in width untill you are happy with one of them, this allows you to figure out which you are happy with if like me you would rather make your own terrain textures rather than recycle the existing ones in the game originally.

I would maybe recycle and make new ones... I have to place Japaese Text in the streets.... lol :P

And many other things... Japanese Streets are a pain in downtown areas... So much details....

    Thanks alot...

  5. @EM4_Police-Indeed

Commander I will not lie to you at all, it is not easy to figure out an exact scale since the EM4 game roads were designed for European Vehicles they are slightly smaller than america (which is what maps I work on are from) so I had to scale up the roads and try putting the original default vehicles on the road sections to see if they were large enough to accomodate them easilly, if they were barely fitting I adjusted them further to make them larger. In the downloads section there should be the original freeplay map for download which will work quite well if you are trying to replicate the original default scaling (but like I said that is for european vehicles, not american, japanese, greece, etc.).

My suggestion to you is to figure out if your vehicles will be larger/smaller than the default vehicle and adjust accordingly using the default vehicles or any mod for scaling reference to figure out a fair scale for your roads. Roads are by far the most important thing to assure are properly scaled to the vehicles otherwise they will run off the roads around turns and things like that. Most of the modders out there including myself make the vehicles lower scale than the people so that you can easilly grab the people and use them, since after all, this is a game. The sidewalks are debatable, depending on where you are making the map to simulate more or less dictates the size of the sidewalk, Some places have larger sidewalks than others, I have been to places where sidewalks=parking spaces while others they are more or less footpaths of the dangerous nature... So use what you know about the place to decide on your own judgement.

In the end there are no firm rules to making a decent map, the whole key is to try to do your best to retain a decent scale for your mod rather than reality since let's face it this game does'nt have a great perspective for scale to it.... Best of luck to you, perhaps you'll find your way at this task since there are not too many people willing to devote the time needed to make a complicated new map.

Ok, I see... Well I'll just have to find some way... Thanks...

I even think some of the EM4 Civ Cars are not the right size to its people too.

Europe Roads a are kind of closest to Japanese Roads...

I guess I'll do a flat map test first...

  6. Japan is the place for the Game!

Like the Mod I'm trying to make... Japan has it all... Places where Fighting fires is easy and other places very hard. Big Cities! New part and old parts... Large Forest in the Hills of Japan... Roads big and very small. Traffic can be problems... Some cities have trains or street car in the road. Equipment and Engines are different and many types.

Plus no one does games of Japan like this... Also you can sell it to Japan. lol

But if you making this game! I want to Join up! I'm a Japanese Researcher... :P

  7. Real life to game scale is dependent on the vehicles you use, obviously if you are using smaller vehicles your roads should be smaller to make the scale proper, same deal with people they should be to proper scale. If you are making a totally new freeplay map you should focus on the roads/sidewalks scaling to ensure the vehicles fit the road and do not appear to large or too small to it, same with the sidewalks... Buildings if you use default buildings are pre-scaled so you can make do with them, if you build your own that's alittle bit more difficult. I have a feeling you are focusing on the ground first, which means worry about the scale matching YOUR mod's people and cars.

Map Size to fill the whole terrain is:

    8192x8192

ensure you save it as instructed previously, many programs can edit that format so you do not necessarilly need adobe photoshop. It is a great deal of work to make the ground maps, given the immense scale of the ground texture...

But what is the normal scale of EM4 game? Best for me to try to be normal size than too small or too big?

Like what the normal size of a person in game and normal size of truck?

  8. hi,

the maximum size of a map underground is around 8192 pixels x 8192 pixels (or something like that)

the maps must be made in photoshop or some other image processing program, then saved as a 24-bit Targa (.TGA) in the em4 folder u want. then they must be converted to a .eft file and should then be able to be used.

Thats nice to know... But need to know other things than photoshop image processing and saving files. :gruebel:

I need a real life scale to game scale...

    Thanks for the help.

  9. How hard is it to making full jpg maps for the game?

Is there any shortcuts I can take?

    Are there any rules?

Like matching height to jpg... or the scale on how many "Real Life" feet or cm on a pixel.

Because any map I want to make.. Is not flat or there lot of water.

    post-2201-1212444224_thumb.jpg

This is kind of goal I'm aiming for....

    post-2201-1212445034_thumb.jpg

This is what I want to have in EM4

  10. 33uqu4i.jpg

I made the van in the middle also spawn-able and drive-able. The limos have blinking lights as the van.

I am still working on that when i spawn a car i can spawn the secret service guys in it.

    Great work!

If you want the guards to be AI private guards and able to fight for themself? Like some guy who enter the grounds they will auto attack him? So you can have bad characters attack it and see who wins the fight? So it can be some mission? Like a some Embassy attack mission.

  11. There will be no further emergency games from Sixteen Tons as far as rumors go.

I think Emergency would be very hard to leave the spot light of Sixteen Tons...

Also I did said making a Japanese Emergency Services Test Mod for E4. yet, I'm just a Researcher of Japan... I maybe able to make basic things for the Mod like Coloring and Writing Stories... But I need some people to help and want to make this cool mod. I can't do this alone...

Any of you want to see a cool video of the Japanese Fire Department doing a firefighting demonstration and parade? I happen to found this video that this guy made.

Its part of Japanese Culture to show off! If you want to say it in a lame way. lol

But for really its to show the people where the money is going to and to recruit new members.

Also to to learn history and to show how well trained they are. The guy in the video tells most of it.

The Police and the Military do demonstrations and parades too. It make it easier to see every thing. Than having to ask people at a Government Office... They a ask for your ID\Passport and then call someone on the phone... lol

If any one want to see more videos... There seem to be alot on YouTube... Its maybe in a Japanese title...

  12. I'm surprise that no one made a Mod of the Japanese Emergency Services.

The Idea of a Japanese Emergency Services Mod in EM game series would be pertty neat I say.

But EM4 has been out a long time now... and its maybe too late to start a project for EM4.

But not too late in thinking making a Mod for EM5.

I would be working on a test mod on the EM4 format... But I'm not a program... More of a Researcher....

Take a look at these pictures I took while researching in Japan.

    Japanese Police Car

    Japanese Fire Ambulance

Rescue Truck (front) Tool Truck (back)

    Fire Suits, Boots, and Gear.

I have more pictures... I need to find them... Also I have many Emergency Services Books and Datasheets on the Japanese Emergency Services. I also know a lot of Japaense website with more data and images.

Another cool thing that have huge Rescue Robots and small ones too. I need to find a pictures of them... Some are still in testing.

One big thing that every one would like in the Mod is Police Box and small stations. Each Police Box has around 2 to 6 officers. One Police Car and a few bikes. Nice place as a small base for a emergency near by....

Make maps of a Japanese City or town will be great too. Playing in a Japanese will be like... The new parts of the city: Is easy to get trucks to the fire becasue wide roads... Very tall building will be nice. Old part of the city: Harder to get to the fire. Because of small streets, dead ends, hills, Street Trams, and stairs.

Japanese Firemen have to do lots of training getting hoses up hilly stairs...

Thanks to Google Earth we can make many parts of a Japanese city. Would be nice if EM5 map maker is easier to do that with... But I think of size of map need to be bigger... for a japanese city...

I would be glad to start this project for EM5 if its on the table any time soon. But I would need some help from modders and programers who like to do this project... Till then EM4 testing will begin if I can get a team. It will be nice to have a Japanese person on the team... So the Mod can be made for a Japanese Ver. and to have Japanese voices. Or just give the team new info in Japanese Fire Tech. There should be a few EM Japanese Fans in Japan?

*New* This a neat video I found of the Japanese Fire Department on the job. Japanese Fire Department on the Job.

If anyone who wanys any part of this Mod just reply here or PM my profile.
