2 Sheriff Deputies Shot

Recommended Posts

Today 2 Mchenry County IL Sheriff Deputies were shot while they were at a domestic dispute. The suspect then barricaded himself inside the residence and somehow escaped and lead police on a manhunt and he was caught about an hour ago. Last I heard the 2 deputies are in stable condition. Here are some photos from a page I follow.

News article obtained by ABC 7 Chicago:

A massive manhunt in unincorporated McHenry County ended as Scott Peters, 52, was taken safely into custody, the McHenry County Sheriff said.

Peters was found and arrested shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday in Crystal Lake, nearly six miles from his home, authorities said.

Peters is suspected of shooting two police officers during a well-being check in unincorporated McHenry County early Thursday morning.

Officers from several agencies, including the Illinois State Police and the FBI, joined the search Thursday. They went home-to-home in the community, which had been partly evacuated, but said it was possible he had left the area.

Three McHenry County Sheriff's deputies were conducting a well-being check at the home in the 1300-block of Northeast Shore in Holiday Hills around 1:30 a.m. Thursday when Peters allegedly opened fire.

"The suspect fired through a door and then opened the door and continued to fire on our deputies with a rifle," McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said.

Two officers were wounded. A male 7-year veteran deputy was shot in the leg and abdomen. He is listed in critical but stable condition. He underwent successful surgery and is in the ICU. His female partner, a 12-year veteran, was shot in the leg. She was transported to Centegra Mchenry Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.

The third deputy returned fire, but officials do not know if Peters was struck. After a several hour standoff, police determined Peters was not found inside the home.

Officials have not said what triggered the well-being check, except to call it a domestic violence incident and say the call came from outside the home. Two women, Peters' wife and daughter, were able to escape without injury.
