billyfromhill
The term "Q" is generally a term for any mechanical siren on an emergency vehicle. The "real" Q is the Federal Signal Q2B, which is primarilly found on fire engines because the Q2B draws 100 amps from the electrical system of the vehicle. Police cars and RAs don't have an electrical system powerful enough. There also is an electronic version of the Q2B, called the E-Q2B. In LA city, both the engines and the trucks have the Q2B in addition to an electronic siren. RAs have either a Timberwolf siren (which sounds similar to a Q but not quite the same), or the E-Q2B, which sounds identical to the Q2B. Some older RAs only have an electronic siren. Police cars only use an electronic siren.
