  1. As for the commissioner's exception, read the law very carefully, it says "the commissioner", which under NYC vehicle and traffic law is defined as the commissioner of motor vehicles, and has nothing to do with any fire commissioners,

Cool, I wasn't sure what commissioner it was referring to.

    ...apologies for the offtopic...

  2. Everything continues to looks amazing as usual.

As for the blue light...Probably a deliberate cosmetic change to distinguish the truck. Just like the FDNY trucks with Qs, and the worst is E-43's black stripe. There is also an exemption in the traffic law where a commissioner can wave the rules for blue lights.

For those that don't know, when used in US fire services the green light is traditionally used to signify a command unit.

  3. Thank you everyone for the encouragement.

The work towards the first release is progressing. Unfortunately for the Alpha (which I guess would be more appropriately called a Beta), I probably won't be able to have additional specific ambulances. Adding in a more complex spawning script would just take too much time at the moment. I should still be able to limit the number of units for it though, since that is only about 4 lines of scripting. The only one I'm not sure on for this is will be the Battalion Chiefs command for calling the additional light force. By this weekend I'm gonna try to finalize which commands the Captain, Police officer, EMS Captain, and Battalion Chief will have.

Things that will be missing from the Beta:

-Division Commander (his scripts will be more complex)

-EMS Captain MCI command (too much work for the moment)

-Unique off-map ambulances (too much work for the moment)

As for any sort of release date...I'm not gonna commit to one for another week or two.

  4. You can play it in English with the LA Mod, it's very fun and I recommend it. Plus it's a lot easier to buy now since amazon.de will now ship software from Germany to the US. Back when I did it, I had a guy from my dorm floor from Poland help me figure out how to do it.

  5. I'll contribute some help to those searching:

After an hour of studying up on photos...

-Chassis appears to be a 1222AF, which makes it from somewhere in to mid 90's

-exact matches in cabin style I found were all from the 80's

-The body is likely a Metz build, not many units on that chassis have 3 doors on them.

-The license plate we can sort of see suggests Europe

-It doesn't appear to have Brandweer, Feuerwher, or Vigili Del Fuco plastered on it. Which more or less rules out Netherlands, Germany, and Italy. (but some units from the Netherlands and Germany don't have it plastered on them.)

  6. It's been a long time...

sorry I've been quiet for a while, but I am still around. The mod progress had stalled because I was really sucking at altering the dispatch scripts for the Battalion Chief. Fortunately, I finally figured out what the heck I needed to do. So, I'll provide you with a little update as to what is currently done.

    Station Alarms: (Complete)

Equipment & Staffing Changes: (Started) 85%

    Dispatch Commands: (Started) 10%

When I manage to get the concept a little further I would like to release a public or small scale alpha to get impressions from the community. Of course, there is no release date on this yet.

  7. I'd go for shirt and tie myself for a few reasons:

1.Outside a few sting operations, that's all that my old professor wore as an LAPD homicide detective (and all he still wears for that matter)

2.Watching First 48, that is all that the homicide detectives wear, regardless of location.

3.Unless you've made any significant changes I'm not aware of, the detective in game will function in the capacity of a homicide detective.

So, for reality sake I'd stick with suit and tie.

  8. Hi All,

I've always wanted to try and make a map for a personal mod, but honestly never felt up to the extreme challenge until recently. My end goal is to do a max size freeplay map, so I've started heavily altering the original deluxe freeplay map. So far the design is going well, but it's hard to visualize the end product with all the clutter from the original texture. So, to help I've been importing the texture to check scaling, etc. But I'd like to seek some advice from the elite guys who have done maps.

1, Is it easier to try and break up the map into smaller sections like 512x512(I forget the minimum size)?

    2. If yes, can I then develop a section, add all paths, etc., and then expand the map by importing a larger combined texture when I have another section done?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

  9. At least on my version of GIMP it saves with a resolution of 72...but I still get a CTD after I click ok and it wants me to choose a save directory for the texture.

I just checked GIMP again... When I was saving, it gave me an option to compress the file. After I unchecked that option, I resaved, and I was able to import the texture.

    I hope that helps

  10. It's been several months since I started this topic, so I thought I'd refresh it. I still have yet to come up with a solution for the problem I'm having.

I realize it may be much easier to spawn the truck off of a virtual object, or something of that nature...I'd just prefer to not limit the size of Hoppah's awesome map. I know asking is a long shot....but if anyone with some scripting skills could consider giving additional guidance or help, please PM me. I'd really like to get the LAFD Realism submod moving again.

Took another crack at it and finally solved the problem

  11. Hitler got his ass handed to him by Churchill and Stalin, not the US... mind you, America did participate, but even if they didn't, the nazis still would've lost.

Just a counterpoint to that...What country was responsible for running supplies and assistance to them before both countries were able to rebound and start successfully pushing back against Axis expansion?

And quite frankly, as much as I appreciate the contributions of all nations in the Allied offensive...I'd have to give a good 80% credit for the win to Soviet people (not Stalin).

  12. I have a question for some of you folks across the pond.

I've been watching inside the ER here on BBC America. Why do HEMS ride in on ambulances with the regular medical crew?

i would have thought they would be reserved for helicopter flights, or do they also serve on the fly-cars too?

  13. It may also depend by the way the lighting is wired on the truck.

Certain lights or warning sounds on apparatus are sometimes only available on certain light settings. I know our one engine will actually sound an alert and flash lights in the cab if you don't have the lightbar on... not sure why, probably just a safety feature.

  14. according to the stuff on NYCfire.net the total units on the call should have been:

10-76:High-rise building fire (Response of 5 engines, 5 ladders, 4 battalion chiefs, 1 deputy, 1 rescue, Mask Service Unit, Hi-Rise Unit, Field Comm Unit, a Squad, a Tactical Support unit, a RAC unit, the Special Operations battalion chief, the Safety Operating battalion chief, a safety officer, and a lobby control unit.)

    or

10-77:High-rise multiple dwelling fire (Response of 5 engines, 5 ladders, 3 battalion chiefs, 1 deputy, 1 rescue, 1 squad, the Special Operations battalion chief, a safety officer, Field Comm unit, and the Safety Operating battalion chief.)
