  1. The reason that NYC, and the entire state of New York, do not run blue to the front is blue is considered a curtsey light for volunteer FFs. Volunteer FFs are legally allowed to run one forward blue light to the front when responding to FD calls, so the general public knows they are responding to these calls, and can offer the FF the curtsey of passing them to get to the call. The volunteer ff associations in NY are very against anyone else having a forward facing blue light, particularly PD. The reasoning is that if PD had forward facing blue lights, a criminal might one day see a FF responding to a call, think it's an unmarked PD vehicle coming to arrest them or something, and blow them away. Law enforcement in NY may have blue lights to the side and rear though, and if you look, you will notice that most of the newer pd vehicle have blue to the rear and sides. NYPD for example, the two rear pods on the vector bars are blue to the rear and the rear dual deck lights are red/blue on your standard car. As for federal vehicles, they fall under federal law, not state law, and the federal colors are red and blue, so therefore they can use both.

  2. NYPD will have both they will soon launch SRG and they will keep ESU too.

There's also really no shortage of hydrents in NYC. Every block has a few of them and traffic are quick to tow cars parked within 15 feet of one. As was already mentioned though, DCU's water cannons just sit in lots and wouldn't be filled in the field regardless. The inclusion of the LRAD would make the disused water cannons needless anyway.

I'm still inclined to guess it's a fuel tanker given how spiffy the fuel limit on helicopters was in the US Army mod and the fact that the NYPD does indeed employ a whole lot of these trucks for that purpose. The only other possible purpose that comes to mind would be using it to decon a hazmat area I suppose, but I don't know that these trucks have ever been used for something like that.

Side note on the SRGs: These are still most likely going to be ESU officers. It's likely that the SRG will end up being something similar to the NYPD's existing model for their Hercules teams which consist of mostly CTU and ESU officers. Considering that ESU already only consists of a few hundred cops it seems unlikely that the Commissioner's plan of having 300 officers assigend to SRG will mean an entirely new force of officers whom would be roghly the equivilent of ESU anyway.

As I understand it, NYPD SRG is being created out of the old NYPD task forces. Task forces were comprised of patrol officers and each patrol division (i.e. Manhattan North, Manhattan South, Staten Island) had a task force. Task forces were assigned to a) provide additional patrols in high crime areas, b) provide a rapid rush of manpower to major incidents (i.e. plane crashes, natural disasters, etc.), and c) handle disorder control (riot police). Last I heard, NYPD was looking to dissolve these task forces, which would leave them without a disorder control unit(s). Second, after the Mumbai terror attacks, members of the Organized Crime Control Bureau (OCCB) were trained in limited tactical measures in case of large scale terror attacks where ESU would need assistance. Likely, some of the task force members were reassigned to this new Strategic Response Group, and then given some tactical training, as this new SRG will be responsible for disorder control in addition to counter terror operations. However it is highly unlikely that this SRG will have anywhere near the same tactical capabilities as ESU. ESU has always been NYPDs tactical unit, for whatever the operation, and they pride themselves on being the best of the best. As their saying goes "When a citizen needs help, they call the police. When the police need help, they call ESU."

I'm not actually from New York City and I don't spend a lot of time there, so I won't get this 100% right. Only been once and that was back in 2005 and that was for 2 days.

The NYPD Counter Terrorism Unit (Or CTU) focuses on combating potential terror attacks in the city of New York and the NYPD coverage grounds.

It was established back in 2002 after 9/11 so that the NYPD could monitor terror activity within New York and Worldwide without relying on Federal Agencies, i.e. the FBI or DoHS

I believe that it's basically a unit that monitors worldwide terror activity and raises the readiness and awareness of NYPD officers based on what is happening.

For example, if there was a series of terrorist attacks in another country, let's say Spain (Not that there would be one specifically in Spain) for this example, then the CTU will acknowledge it and take necessary action, such as increase amount of units patrolling, have special units on standby, evacuate certain buildings, etc.

They also do have an armored division, so they are similar to ESU (I believe). I'm thinking the SRG will be similar to this division.

Actual New Yorkers like TheHockeydude might be able to tell you more if you are still confused. I apologize if what i'm saying is completely wrong, this is just based on what I read in about 20 minutes. :P

CTU does more than acknowledge terrorist attacks across the world, they have officers stationed around the world who respond to these terror attacks. These officers then in turn interact directly with local law enforcement at the scene of the terrorist attacks and report back to the NYPD brass and analysts in New York in real time, who then  use the information to coordinate the NYPD response. Therefore the NYPD is responding to possible terror threats in real time compared to other cities who may have to wait till the next day or two to get some version of a report from some other agency which may or may not address that city's concerns.

Finally, just to add, while NYC does have a ton of law enforcement agencies, who all call themselves police, most are not full police and or do not really deal with true police emergencies. Most of these agencies have peace officers, which is a lower standard than police officer, and peace officers are only allowed to handle crimes/incidents specifically under their jurisdiction. I.e. department of health and hospitals police don't carry fire arms and really have no power outside of property owned by the department of health and hospitals. Or the sheriffs office, who is under control of the department of finance and really only handles city tax enforcement and civil law. So, the only real full service police department  in NYC, under control of NYC is the NYPD.

  3. Probably not the right place to put this, but it was the closest thing I could think of. When you get a stolen car in free play and they follow the stolen car with your helicopter, what do you do? just send the helicopter over the stolen vehicle since there's no more follow command. Second, the one stolen car I had was off the map before I could even get the police helicopter on the map, is it just me?

  4. For me, it isn't the framerates.

I just really don't like this new UI. I can't see how we're going to fit new scripts from mods into the existing command UI, and the fact that vehicles have pretty much only THREE commands, and you can't control lights or siren or anything. It feels like this has been dumbed down for the mass market and we've lost what made EM4 - EM4; a niche simulator with GREAT modding potential.

I agree that it's been dumbed down and definitely miss the way EM4 was set up, and i don't like how they take units away from you if you won't need it on a map. Hopefully the modding community can figure out how to change that, they certainly done amazing things with the previous games. I also have had the "dispatcher" give me jobs and then the events don't appear, and I've also had random suspects appear on the map not tied to an event.  As for issues with running the game, I got a my new computer Monday:

    Intel Core i7-4790

    16GB Dual Channel DDR3

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760Ti

runs fine with everything set to high, but I did have it slow down once when I had a large fire with multiple units.

  5. I'm not sure about the whole green light thing, it seems a odd color for emergency lights. I'm aware that where people are used to it things might be different but if I was driving along and saw flashing green lights ahead of me on the road it wouldn't have the same "oh that's a emergency vehicle" response as red or blue lights would. The same thing applies for white lights which is one of the arguments I've heard against them even though they can be seen from a greater distance.

Agreed, especially since a green light is now used to detonate a command post. NY uses green for volunteer EMS. Back to the vffs, any volunteer emt, including VFD based ems, in NY can get their vehicle certified as a NYS DOH certified emergency vehicle (requires stocking the vehicle to NYS DOH health code part 800) and run red lights and siren as an emergency vehicle.

  6. Got my copy today and played for about 12 hours. From what I've seen of emergency services so far, they look amazing and are a great improvement over GTA IV. LED bars and lights actually look like leds (not the sticks they were on the noose cruiser in GTA IV). Los Santos, Los Santos County, and Blaine County each have a FD (both fire and EMS) and a PD, and each agency has it's own paint scheme. There are several different police vehicles in the game, including vehicles based off the crown vic interceptor, the taurus interceptor, and the ford explorer. The only problem is that I haven't figured out how to steal a police car and get away. And before you ask, there is a cheat to lower your wanted level, but it requires a button press code every time (hard to do while fleeing the cops), there is no more health cheat (that anyone knows of yet), and cheats no longer save in your phone, they must be manually entered each time.

  7. I know that double posting is frowned upon, but I felt that this was appropriate and important to post again on here, since this is a NYC topic.

This is also a t-shirt, if anyone is interested in purchasing it, the money goes to the Leary Fire Fighters Foundation run by Dennis Leary which supports fire departments facing major crisis, I.E. FDNY post 9/11, departments affected by Hurricane Sandy, and New Orleans post Katrina among others, so it's for a good cause.

  8. As for adding another firehouse, there's 5 operation bases on map, 3 on the left of the map 2 on the right, the right has E65 and the police precinct, however I'm debating adding another firehouse, possibly Duane St again.

If I can make a suggestion, why not just move Batt.9/Engine 54/Truck 4 over to the upper left corner since you already have Rescue 1 in the upper right corner. IF you did want to add more units to the mod though, I would suggest Engine 40 and Ladder 35, which would give you a second tower ladder in the mod and complete Battalion 9 (Engines 23, 40, 54, Trucks 4, 35, and Rescue 1) in the mod.

  9. Two other problems I just found: First, I deployed the guys from Ladder 21, mainly bc I thought it would be faster to do that to get the jumppad (which it was). I then had everyone put their stuff down and get back in the truck. However, when I later had them get out, they still had the equipment with them, even though they put it down earlier, and what's worse is that they couldn't put it down anymore either.

Usually it's just an error in the game, and they aren't really holding the equipement, you just see the graphics of it. Try sending the FFs to get other equipment and then put that equimpent down, it usually works.

  10. To lower the tower ladder, just click on the FF while he is in the bucket and right click on the ground to get him to move to that position. It will lower the ladder and he will eject from the bucket.

I never even thought of that. In terms of removing the map and using the original game map as a fix for intel users, I will say that while changing the maps has allowed me to play the mod, and I am very grateful and happy for that, If there are three or more fire apparatus in my view, there is a visible slow down in terms of graphics. That's because Intel sucks though

  11. Did the battalion cheif command post make it into either the HD or SD version of 3.0, cause if it is in there, I can't find it. If the command post isn't in the mod anymore, I would make that a suggestion for the patch, unless it was removed from the mod cause it caused crashes or something. Also, I would say if you had time to include a manual with the mod.

    Bugs:

    • The tower ladder doesn't have the bucket up or down commands, meaning either the ff in the bucket gets stuck in the bucket (neither the truck or the ff can move), or if the tower is "installed" to a building the ff gets stuck outside the window and can't move.
    • the ESU officers can't pick up epuipment such as the air bag/jump pad
  12. Adding to squam,

I would uninstall your current drivers, the game and the mod. Restart the computer and then reinstall the drivers, next the game and finally the mod. It looks like a graphic issue more than actual mod or game related.

The game just crashes to black screen if I don't have the latest river installed, I tried it. I've also noticed that this is just not an error I'm having with the LA mod, it happens in the original game too, so I started a topic in the technical help section. Thanks

**Problem fixed, I had to drop my graphics to the lowest settings**

  13. Hey guys, I am trying to reinstall 911 FR after a computer crash and have run into a problem I've never seen before. The personnel in the game show up without skins and depending on what and if I'm using a mod, certain other vehicles/buildings/objects will show up skinless as well. The only modifications done to the game are http://forum.emergen...it#entry196759

to get the mod installer working and installed the LA mod and the Harbor city mod, with the same problem in both mods. I've run the game fine on the computer before, and there's nothing new except the hardboard, so I can't imagine it being a hardware issue, and I've looked at the log file and there's nothing there, so I'm at a loss. I've attached some pictures from the LA mod as an example

  14. I'm having problems with the Ladder Truck, the Civilian Big Rig, Emergency Personnel and some buildings

The skins don't appear on the trucks and personnel and buildings are shaded weirdly

    Here are some images:

Did anyone every figure out a solution to this problem. My video card drivers are up to date, I've tried reinstalling the mod and the game and re-downloading the mod and the game, so I'm at a loss.

  15. When I run the L.A. mod installer, i get a message that it can't find a valid instalation of EM4 or 911 First Responders, but it lets me continue the instalation and It does install, but then when I start freeplay, the tower ladder is completely white, except for the wheels and the firemen look weird, like the shadowing got messed up. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I would appreaciate it.The game is a download from atari.

  16. Incorrect, it is, W 48th runs into Times Square, it is like literally round the corner, on our map it wont be though. But yeah it's not in TS like previously stated.

Times Square is approximately w 42nd and 7th Ave. W 48 could be considered the most northern part of Times Square, but it's not what most people would imagine as Times Square, since there's no lights or anything.

  17. I thought midtown house was like 2 steps from times square you can see some lights down the street

It's about a mile away, and Engine 54, Ladder4,and Battalion 9 are quartered northwest of Times Square and Engine 54 was headed uptown in that video, so whatever you saw was not times square.

  18. Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice. I currently have a PS3 but I am a big star wars fan and with the upcoming release of star wars kinect, I am considering getting the star wars limited edition x-box 360. I am also unimpressed with sony' customer support after my first PS3 died during the L.A. Noire situatuion where both sony and the publisher jointly claimed "it's not my fault." I am think of retiring my PS3 except for the games I have now and the occasional game which has a PS3 exclusive and as a blu-ray player. Just wondering what your opinions are. Thanks
