  1. Use boot camp, not Parallels!

While parallels is a superior form of virtualization when compared to things like Virtual Box, the performance degradation caused by virtualizing the windows environment WILL make the game unplayable. I've tried to run EM4...an 8+ year old game on a 2013 15" MacBook Pro in Parallels and it plays terribly with frame rates running at about 15-20fps.

EM5 is a new game...with huge performance issues on even high end machines. Even if it could run in parallels, you'd be lucky to get 2 or 3 fps.

MacBooks don't have the best graphics cards but if you managed to get a newer model with a dedicated graphics card I suppose you can get away with playing em5 on low using Boot Camp.

As a tip, don't game with parallels. If you want to game, install windows on the machine using bootcamp. The performance is night and day. If you have Intel graphics and not an nvidia or ATI graphics card then "gg", you won't be able to play em5 no matter what you install it on.

    Hope this helps.

  2. You may need to use another program. I'm not sure if Zmodeler fully supports OGRE .mesh files.

3DS Max has a few .mesh exporting plugins for OGRE as does Blender.

Unfortunately, importing .mesh files is even trickier. It looks like Blender is the only thing that can import .mesh files with a plugin. 3DS max does not seem to have anything that can open .mesh without converting it to another format first.

  3. Future is bright. The possibilities (modding wise) is much larger than before. The level of control is much finer than EM4. The tools, while not lacking a learning curve, make many tasks much simpler.

Right now everything is still being decoded. With no official documentation yet, it's all really still fairly enigmatic. Once official documentation gets out there and a few of us diehards really sit down and start messing around, things will start to take off.

Sixteen Tons Entertainment was true to their word...it's a completely different game both under the hood and in-game. I'm super excited to start modding. Some people just don't like change. The whole performance thing is a small hiccup, I'm not sure why it's having such a demoralizing effect. It's as if people think that what they got 3 days ago is what the game will be forever.

I've already started planning a mod with a colleague of mine which I hope to one day be a worthy successor to the LA Mod.

  4. I think the game is just too slow, the paramedics don't run... they just walk to the victim... and after that long travel, the beautiful animation to get him on the thing takes 5 more seconds... taking a firehose takes 5 seconds.

The new animations are beautiful, but they make the game less active in comparison to EM4

You want realistic? There you go. While truly realistic would take much longer to connect a hose I find 5 seconds a nice compromise.

And paramedics don't run to patients. At least I don't, not to mention paramedics are nothing but stretcher fetchers. The doctors actually treat and they run.

  5. The scripting language is Lua...which is a common language for game scripting and it's not some custom C-- language like Em4.

I'm super excited about scripting. On the surface it appears that they've created a lot of room for expansion in the scripting department.

You may hate it...but I love it for the modding capabilities that were added.

  6. I was really impressed.

They really simplified the whole game. It's easier to play but goodness it's just nonstop.

I hated em4's base game. I actually like em5's base game. The little details like progressive breaking and cars pulling over and all the action animations are just awesome.

I'm just so excited to start tinkering about. There is an excellent base to start modding off of. The game already does a lot of the things I want. In em4, a lot of the base game's behavior was overridden by mods, however I'm so satisfied with how many actions are done, I may actually leave things as they are and focus on adding new things.

Performance issues aside I think it's great.

  7. First, this game is the shiznaz...when the stretcher crew came out of the helicopter I nearly fell over in disbelief. Excellent work, especially for a first release!

    Core i7 920 Quad-Core 3.3GHZ (O.C'd)

    6GB RAM

    1.25GB Nvidia GTX 560Ti (448 Core)

I was playing at about 18-25fps on medium (slightly lower on High...didn't even try ultra) at 1080p. Not totally noticeable but it dropped to around 10-15 on heavier fires.

The game is a total RAM hog though. it was using over 5GB of RAM on a 2 person multiplayer game. I understand it was heavy but 5GB is a bit over the top. I experienced severe lag at times (probably due to RAM/HDD swapping as i was running out of memory). Luckily I plan to upgrade to 16GB soon. Memory leak? or expected?

It appears as though the scripts are written in Lua...so i guess it's time to start leaning that language

  8. You guys are just....wow...you havent' even played it yet and you are already condemning it.

    1. It's a first release

    2. You haven't even physically played it for yourselves yet

    3. It's a first release

    4. This is why you don't hype things you know little about (leaving a lot of room for disappointment)

    5. It's a first release

'Gents. It's a game. What you get now is not set in stone. May I remind you that EM4 had SEVERAL patches after launch. It's actually rare for a game to be 100% at launch.

Lastly, I don't know what you all expected, but after reading all the "desires" and "expectations" in the "What would you like to see" thread I can see why some of you are disappointed. Remember, this is a game, not a simulator. This community as a whole expects Emergency to be a realistic simulator, but in fact that's not what it's meant to be. Little do you realize it was the mods that made EM4 awesome. I really haven't seen anyone rave about the base game before. Once there are some mods out there, I bet opinions will change. What does a perfect game leave for modding? Nothing. If there is a lot left to be desired, then that give something for the modding community to work with. If the game was perfect I can tell you right now I wouldn't waste my time making mods for it.

    *end rant*

Lets play the game for a couple days, at least a couple hours, before we pass formal judgement. Watching a car drive around the track is a far different experience than actually taking it out for a test drive yourself.

    Just my $0.02 ;)

  9. Anyone have an idea on a service name for the paramedic ambulance company you will be playing as?

The current name I'm thinking of:

Northview Emergency Medical Services Authority - NEMSA

The name has to describe the service, which the above does. The ambulance provider is the medical authority in the EMS system. While some Fire Departments have Paramedics, whenever the ambulance paramedics show up, they are in charge. (Hence my desire to have the word "Authority" in the name although it is not required).

While the company is not "Government-run" it is a contracted "not-for-profit" organization. Also, the company is the exclusive ambulance provider for the county, with the exception of a few larger cities who use their local fire department as their ambulance provider. The county is diverse ranging from urban to suburban to downright rural.

Any other ideas for names or do you guys like that?

  10. Nope probably not:

    Intel Core i5 4200U @ 1.60GHz 45 °C

    Intel HD Graphics Family (Dell)

Both are well below the minimum requirements.

Intel graphics may work on the lowest settings (making for an ugly looking game), but your CPU isn't even at the minimum,

Can you play? technically yes, but it won't be smooth.

Blah..only have a 560 ti, might need to upgrade that gpu soon or lower texture, hopefully it'll run nice on medium.

I have the same model (mine's a 560ti classified ultra (448 core 1.25GB). I'm not worried. It's handled every modern game i've thrown at it without issue so far (maybe not at highest setting), I doubt EM5 is as revolutionary/graphics intensive as we're being led to believe.
