Resolved the problem on my own. Took a little frustration, but succeeded.
-
With EM 3 and EM 4 now on my Windows 10 computer, and now with access to the Emergency Planet website, I have re-downloaded the LA Mod (both 2.5 and 2.1) for my games. Can anyone provide guidance for installing the LA Mods into the appropriate games? When I open the game from the computer program list, I can see that each game has its correct mod along with all the other aspects that make up EM 3 and EM 4. I can bring up the Mod Installer for each game, but do not know how to put the Mod into the installer so that when I start the game, I am unable to "load" the mod. Thank you for any help.

Thank you for your prompt response and assistance.

Thank you for your assistance. I was not sure how to make a "screen shot" of the files you asked for, so took a bunch of cell phone pictures depicting each step I utilized. Today, I was unpleasantly surprised to find that my wireless phone connection was not compatible to my computer (a message popped up telling me that the computer did not recognize the USB device). Therefore, I could not transfer the photos to the computer and thus attach them to this forum. However, I think I may have resolved the problem being addressed here. I went to the "specs" folder in the LA Mod, opened up "fp_params_endless.xml," changed the frequency duration from 60.0 to 120.0, and "saved" the change. This went into "my documents" folder. I then changed the .doc to .xml, then copied the entire code line and "pasted" it into the game. I was advised that I needed "Administrator" permission to make the change. I clicked "yes," and then closed everything out. After a couple of minutes, I reopened the EM 4 Game, and viewed the "specs" folder, and my new change was installed. I ran the game in Free Play Endless Mode, and I am happy to announce that I am getting a longer "gap" in the pace of the emergency incidents. Thank you again for your advice and assistance.
-
OK, I am back. I opened up the game and clicked on Mods; then Specs. I found fp_params_endless.xml. I opened up "properties," and can see:
fp_params_endless
type: xml
Attributes: No Boxes Checked. Both "Read Only" and "Hidden" do not have any check marks or filled in boxes.
Under UAC, this is set at: "Don't notify me when I make changes to Windows settings."
Where do I go from here?
-
OK. Thank you. I will check the computer specs and get back to this site.

A belated "thank you" to Mr. Matt 5432123 for your response to my question on 6/21/18. However, the problem of "slowing down" the pace of the dispatches still remains. I may have been mistaken and not researched deep enough into the forum libraries for my problem. The response I printed off was from MikesPhotos back from 2008 and apparently dealt with an earlier version of the LA MODs. The LA Mod in his response was for Version 1.6. I have Hoppa's LA Mod 2.1. The result when I attempt to "modify" the pace of the dispatcher utilizing MikesPhotos information is "ACCESS DENIED," or "File not found." Is there information available for the current version (2.1) I am using?
Some additional information (maybe this is the cause of my problem of not being able to modify). I have EM4 Global Fighters for Life on a Windows 7 computer NOT hooked up to the Internet. Could this make a difference? Thank you.
-
These questions may have been already addressed and answered, so I respectfully ask for patience. While playing Emergency 4 in "Endless Game" mode (with Hoppa's "L.A. Mod"), I am asking the following questions:
1) Endless Game mode runs awfully fast - sometimes I have more incidents to handle than I can reasonably complete. Is there a way to "slow down" the pace of the dispatcher?
2) In line with the above, is there a certain time limit that the paramedic requires for treating a victim? Should the paramedic "treat" the victim for 15 to 30 seconds to simulate treatment, or can I bring in the stretcher carriers immediately after treatment has begun?
3) If an emergency unit (assigned to station #1 or #2) is destroyed, do I get replacement unit from the equipment pool? Will it return to the the original unit's station for responses?
-
Thank you. That helped immensely. And I am using Hoppah's LA Mod 2.1 for EM4.

Hi. It is me again. I am updating my post from yesterday to reflect the fact that I was able to solve a couple of the problems that I posed. To begin with, EM4/Global Fighters for Life is now working fine in my HP All-in-One Windows 7 system. I stumbled onto the solution after reinstalling the game. Apparently, after being unable to get the game to start, I then clicked on the "trouble-shooter" icon and then checked "run the game with compatible settings." Sure enough, although I cannot figure out how, the game started and was playable without any major hitches. It's almost as if the O/S in my computer was magically changed to an XP Version so that the game could play. Very curious. This apparently resolves Items #1 and #2. For Item #3, where I mistakenly and without any forethought started the "Mod Editor" and then abandoned it - that game is on another Windows 7 computer, and I guess the solution to that will be to uninstall the game from that computer. As to Item #4, that question will remain active. I seem to recall in the PDF Manual that "...only units assigned to a fire station may be parked in those stations." So if one of my primary units is destroyed, there is no replacing it from my inventory of vehicles? Thank you.

First off, the questions I am addressing here may have (and 99% sure) been addressed here before. But I am not a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination. So please have consideration when responding to my questions.
1. A while back, I addressed an issue here that had to do with EM4/Global Fighters for Life being able to install on a Windows 7 O/S. The answer I received was that the game could be installed on a Windows 7. The installation went very well, and the game is 100%. The computer I installed the game on is a hand-me-down Windows 7 from my sister who graduated to Windows 10. Coming down to my sister's for the Thanksgiving holiday, I brought the original EM 3 & 4 CD down and installed it on my HP All-in-One, also running Windows 7. The installation went fine, but when I click on the desktop icon, the screen briefly goes black then returns to the desktop. After five attempts (including uninstall and reinstall), the game apparently does not work on my HP computer. Any suggestions?
2. When I read the "Information Document" I could see that EM4 "requires" Windows 2000 or XP to run. Since the game is about 10 years old now, and since it apparently works fine on the Windows 7 my sister gave to me, is the problem on the CD or could my HP (which is over 6 years old) be the problem? As a side note, the computer my sister gave me is probably in the same age range also.
3. One day, without any knowledge or experience whatsoever, I clicked on the "Mod Editor" of my game and titled it, "Bakersfield Fire Department." Then I was confronted with a large grid-style layout with buildings, vehicles, and other items. Not having any knowledge of just how much computer-savvy is required, I hurriedly abandoned my project. However, the title "Bakersfield Fire Department" still appears when I access "Modifications." Is there any way to remove this blunder of mine?
4. And last, but not least, when a unit is destroyed by fire or gunfire, is there a way to "replace" that unit at a fire station? Just curious.

As long as the health bar on the right side is green, it should still be able to work.
The wrench means that the unit has been damaged either from gunfire, heat from fires, or in the case of ingame boats, from collisions.
You have the option to get an engineer to repair the vehicle. Once the green health bar reaches zero, the vehicle catches fire and will explode in about 15 seconds unless you extingiuish it.
Thank you for the explanation. I will strive to move my units out of harm's way in future scenarios. The next question would be, where do I get this engineer? Do I dispatch the tow truck from the "Technical WIndow" or is there a repair vehicle from the "Fire" Equipment window? Thank you.
Now, on another topic relating to game operation, I currently have Emergency 3 and 4 versions on my old Windows XP computer as well as several other older games. Should it become necessary, will these games (Emergency 3 and 4) be able to play on a WIndows 7 computer? Thank you for your response to this.
-
From time to time while engaged in major incidents, I occasionally end up with the image of a wrench in a particular piece of equipment. Once this symbol appears, the unit will not function and I know that this means the vehicle is disabled. What do I need to respond to fix this unit? Please forgive me if this topic has been previously addressed. Thank you.

I am an amateur at "Emergency 4," and have focused on the "Free Play-Endless Game" mode. Is there a certain "place" the rescue man has to be at to deploy and inflate the jump pad for the "possible jumper" scenario? I've only been able to succeed a few times to deploy and inflate the jump pad. Most of the time, the jumper succeeds in his/her jump. I've gotten to the point where I am sending the Coroner to the scene along with the fire rescue unit so that he's there for the aftermath. Thank you.

I first logged in on 9/4/11, writing about some problems I was having with both EM 3 and EM 4. Essentially, the games would load and play, but when I would exit, my computer would go to the BSOD. I was totally dumbfounded by this as the EM 3 and EM4 (both games on one disc) were purchased through Ebay from a recognized vendor. I went to various computer tech forums, downloaded and installed several programs that would printout computer diognostic reports, had forum chats with computer experts telling me what was wrong and how to remedy same, and various other suggestions. I finally took the computer down to an office supply chain store and they performed a "cleaning" at a cost of $169.00. To be sure, the cleaning did remove some malware and other evil things. So when I get the computer home, re-install the Emergency game, and start to play it, *bang* BSOD. I take the computer and the game disc back to the shop and explain my problem again. The tech looks at the disc and reports that he can see a small scratch on the disc, and says "..this may be what is causing your problem." So I order another EM 3 and EM 4 game from Ebay, and install it when it arrives. I play the game for about 20 minutes, exit out, *bang* BSOD. Now totally frustrated, I return to the store and say, "Just erase the hard drive and we'll reload the O/S, and that will give me a clean machine." The tech tells me, "..before we do that, let's run a check on your drivers." He goes to the ATI-Radeon site and finds out that I (yes, I) have neglected to keep my game drivers updated. There were about 40 updates that I had failed to install, and therein was the problem. The games play perfectly now, and I feel like such a fool. I am not computer-savvy, and expect things to function as they came from the store - I am not used to looking for "updates and modifications." But I now have a great-running game, and I just wanted to share this story with the members. Many hours and $169.00 were expended trying to solve a problem that had a FREE solution. Thank you.

Greetings. I am having problems with EM3 and EM4. have uninstalled/reinstalled the games, have had my computer "cleaned" at an office chain supply store at a cost of $169.00, and have even purchased another copy of the EM 3/4 games from Ebay (when the tech told me that he could see a small but significant scratch on the previous CD disc). I've been reading the previous posts from others who have had similar problems and read the solutions offered. Hopefully, one (or several) of the solutions may be the one I need. In a nutshell, my Emergency 4 goes to the BSOD just after startup. I am sending my dxdiag report as required, and am also reporting that when I did the search for "codecs", I came up with 30 files labled codecs. These varied from "C:\WIndows\System 32, to 5 files labled for "Real Player", 2 for "Google Chrome", which I didn't know I had, plus several other files with "codec" in them. If anyone out there can suggest which codecs to remove (along with the guarantee that said removal will not cause problems elsewhere) and perhaps help with what is causing the BSOD, I would appreciate it most sincerely. Thank you. I am truly sorry, but I could not find the way to condense my dxdiag into a file for attachment. -----------------

Installing Mods into Games

Sorry about that. "...picking the file paths by hand..." is how I resolved my problem. I had tried "copy and paste" or "dragging the mod into the Mod installer," and these did not work. That's when I posted my question. It was by pure happenstance that (1) opening the mod installer, and then (2) double clicking on the mod that enabled the installation, and allowed me to enjoy Emergency 3 and 4. I further apologize to all the membership in making the false assumption that everyone on game sites is a Class A Computer Expert - compared to me in which my rating would probably be "Rookie, 3rd Class." I had a bad experience on another game site some time ago where I had made mention of my being scammed by some lowlife who ripped me off for $1,000 in game cards (the site will not be mentioned). At any rate, when I posted my being scammed, (as a warning to others), one responder posted, "If you're going to fall for something that elementary, maybe you should read a book instead of playing/working with computers." I kind of never got over that remark. I will be more helpful in the future.
