  1. Does anyone know what weapons are issued to NYPD ESU officers? Ive seen them on the news with Glock pistols and M4 carbines but I recall that they previously used the Ruger Mini 14. Is the Mini 14 still issued? Do they have shotguns?

Now that I asked my weapons questions. Are all ESU officers certified as EMTs or paramedics? The Suffolk County Police Department (where I live) also has an Emergency Services Unit and all their officers are certified paramedics and everyone going through the county run police academy is a certified EMT (I believe). Like the NYPD ESU they handle both heavy rescue/confined space rescue/car accident extraction and tactical/heavy weapons support.

  2. I live on Long Island (in New York) and we don't have real SWAT teams per se. Instead each of the 2 county police departments as well as some of the larger town and village police departments have an "Emergency Services Unit" that combines heavy weapons support with rescue (ex. car accident extractions, confined space rescue, etc). Officers have access to MP5 SMGs, M4 carbines, etc but their main focus is rescue and unusual calls. I believe they also handle HAZMAT and explosives as well.

  3. I have three ways of dealing with riots depending on my mood:

Good Mood Method: I send 2 patrol cars with 2 officers each and 2 of the officers go for the guy with the sign and haul him off while the other 2 officers standby in case of trouble. IMO it takes too long to deploy SWAT and of course their is usually a traffic jam in the way also.

Bad Mood Method: I have a SWAT sniper land from a chopper and snipe the guy with the sign then I quick get him into an ambulance.

Sadistic Mood Method: Kill everybody. Napoleon once said that the best way to quell a riot is with a "whif of grapeshot" :police:
