  1. Okay, well, there are quite a few issues currently with the software. I'm rewriting it from scratch, covering all bases, to try and ensure there are no more glitches and problems.

Problem I'm having - which I am coping with, though - is that I'm a web developer, not a software developer. So I can write this entire thing, fully working, in PHP, but I don't exactly have a full knowlege of VB.net or C#.Net. But I will get it done eventually.

  2. Okay. I've not been able to dedicate much time at all to the project, unfortunately, but I'm going to try and do some more work now.

So, I shall begin by responding to the recent(ish) replies regarding the Configurator.

The Configurator doesn't work for me. Every time I try to save the settings, a dialog box comes up that says the pathway to the .cfg file is denied. My only option is to quit without saving.

The Configurator has to be run as Administrator, billyyank, or be given some kind of authority over the files to allow it to edit them. Try running it as Administrator (right click and Run as Administrator), let me know if that works. The next version will launch as Administrator by default.

Also, I think we all need a mod launcher so to speak. I think if you can incorporate a way for that program to read what mods the game has installed and to give it the ability to launch them from the configurator, it would really ease the troubles of some folks!

Mod launcher? I absolutely will be including that, in fact, I'm planning on putting one together and releasing that seperately to keep you guys going while I work on the next verson of the Configurator.

I was wondering if it would be possible to have a sort of event "controller". I am a big fan of this configurator, but I would LOVE to see a sort of controller where you could trigger the specific event you want one at a time and in-game. This way you could do the event you wanted to at that time and not have to worry about other events triggering before you are done and ready for the next. Does such a thing exist as of yet? Is this even possible? Thanks all!!

An event controller? That's not a bad idea, although I'm not sure how to make it. It would require some kind of memory injection, I expect - I'll certainly take a look into it, it might not be possible, but then again it might be. If I can inject the correct thing into the memory it should be able to trigger any event I want. I looked at using scripts for this, but it seems that events are hard-coded into the actual game itself.

  3. This is a subject I have been researching for a while with no resolution (yet). I've run all kinds of hex editors, disassemblers and encryption crackers on the "packed" files, and I still have no idea what is going on there. I'm hoping to include a tool for batch unpacking/packing, if I can figure out a solution.

So, I just want to ask: Does anyone know what algorithm is used to pack and unpack the files in the Emergency series? And, frankly, what one is used for the modifications?

If anyone has any clues, suggestions, or ideas, I'd be very interested to hear them, as it would allow me to make a much better set of tools.

  4. Any updates man?

Hmm, I've had all my college work and everything. Main updates are that I have some new concepts and a new GUI that are in progress, and that I've finally realized that using a big font on a forum looks goofy (hence my normal sized text).

All updates will be posted on Twitter with the hashtag #emergency4configurator (which is a very long hashtag XD)

EDIT: I noticed that some people have mentioned problems with multiplayer when using this. This is indeed because there is a checksum function to make sure that all players have the same files, preventing crashes. I might try and figure out some kind of synchronisation feature, or something to easily export/import configuration changes - possibly even game profiles. This is all very complicated to code, though.

  5. I really can't wait until the next release of Emergency Configurator :)

I have been off for quite a while, as I am sure you have noticed, but I am now working on it again. I'm improving a lot of existing elements, like the XML interface, to reduce errors and make it easier for me as a developer.

I will be adding the following features (I am designing everything but the UI from scratch:

    • Screen Resolution
    • Camera Angle
    • Mod Launcher
    • Freeplay / Campaign Events and basic parameters (time, budget, earnings)

The modding suite... well, that will take a while. I have lots of components for it, like the emergency 4 button generator I coded a while back, but it will be complicated.

Please let me know what other things you want to be able to change with the new version of the Emergency 4 Configurator and I will do my best to include them.

  6. The attack on Boston was hard on all of us, It was a cowardly act and in my home town. We lost a MIT Police Officer too Sean Collier. Lets not forget and always stay vigilant. God Bless America.

Hear hear. Even here in Scotland, I was horrified by the attack. Terrorism is not the answer - rational discussion is key.

  7. This is the latest update to my Boston 2013 Mod- looking for feedback, Since the terrorst attack this mod has taken on a whole new meaning for me. Let me know what you think

I think this is fantastic so far! In terms of feedback, I think that the lights on the vehicles are a bit too focused - they look like they need diffused a bit more?

And I think that you should add some of the specialist DHS, SWAT and US National Guard units that we saw following the terrorist attack. They looked great!

Edit: What is the map you are using? It's a pretty neat map.

  8. I'm creating this topic to let all people creating or looking to create an alteration of the Los Angeles Mod or Additional Units Submod know that I have uploaded all of the packed textures unpacked and ready to use.

Download them here (hosted in the download area).

These are a drop-in change, that is, if you get a fresh install of the LA Mod and the AUS (version 2.1), it will still start - but you will be able to edit your files with just nVidiaa's DDS plugin and Photoshop CS4+.

    Have fun!

  9. That's the new thing posted - the LA Mod 2.1 & AUS 2.1 unpacked textures.

These will make it far easier to create reskins of LA Mod and AUS vehicles, objects, persons and buildings. Best yet, you can just drag and drop them straight into your LA Mod 2.1 installation folder (assuming it is a fresh install and does not have texture changes already) and play / edit without any further changes.

I'm thinking (for a lark) I might extend the military in my copy. Perhaps a military bomb disposal team, desert colour trucks, casual and desert military uniforms. :D

  10. This thread has been inactive a while, i'm getting worried :O

I've been a bit busy. It might not be finished for quite a while - but I'm releasing a little something I got together that is not related to this. I will probably get around to finishing it, but if I don't, I will release the source code for it soon. :)

Edit: That is the little something released on the download area - assuming it passes moderation (which it should!)

  11. Finally I got the game to 1366x768 yeah. After playing on a small resolution for all these years finally it is the correct resolution thanks. I'll need to check out the multiplayer thing though, see if it's an issue.

    Hi guys,

Sorry, I have been very busy. I will see what I can do about the problems; I am especially concerned about the Multiplayer problems Emc-Unit is having.

I will see what I can do :)

  12. First off, excellent work! Very handy tool! Secondly, you mentioned for future releases, the ability to create or modify missions. Sorry, I'm using my iPad and can't quote that specific post. Question I had, would it be possible add a free play event creator in one of the future releases? In which players could create free-play events to add to their game and then change the parameters? If so, that would be a very awesome addition.

I will look into this, but as far as I can see the freeplay events are pre-set. You can configure the existing ones, but you can't add new ones.
