We proudly present the revamped New York City Modification v2.0!

Currently still in heavy development, we have been working on a new version of this mod. The mod will contain many new features, such as a progressive style of gameplay, unique missionscripted events, interface changes, new functionalities and -of course- a new map. In this first report we'll show you pictures of the new map we're working on.

The new mod is fixed in a post-9/11 era to about 2008. We didn't want to focus on updating vehicles constantly, instead we're focussing on improving gameplay elements, trying to keep the game  challenging and fun. We'll release more information regarding gameplay changes later. The new map is fictional and won't be a copy of a real part of New York City. Instead we choose to make a more compact map with many (downsized) landmarks and influences from New York City and the North-Eastern American environment. This way, the map will provide a lot of variation with many things to get into.

Pictures say more than words, so have fun watching the editor screenshots below:

In regards to current mod status: the core gameplay elements are done, but the new map isn't even halfway done and still requires a lot of work. Don't expect a release anytime soon.

I like the idea of redoing it but will it be similar to the Manhattan&Brooklyn Mod?

Will the Trucks be updatet? I you need a lighter , i could help somewhere if you want me:)

But i like how it looks

The map can't be compared to the maps provided by those mods at all, as we choose to build ours from a different idea, i.e. a more compact map with influences from New York City. In our opinion, providing a good New York City feeling doesn't really require a copy of the real part of the city on the same scale. For example the bridge is obviously influenced by the real Queensboro Bridge, but it's much much smaller. By going our own way, we have the opportunity to implement our own ideas and make them more suitable for Emergency 4. In regards to gameplay, technically the mod will be completely different using a mission scripted progressive based freeplay style, comparable to the US Army Mod, yet more advanced.

My god! Fantastic work guys :D I love the new civilian vehicles you have added and the map looks brilliant. Will the EL train actually run like the normal train does?

Yes, the El train does does roam the tracks like the original train does on a normal map.

Wrong, the NYPD operates the Bell 412 along with the Agusta A119, during the period in which our mod takes place the bell 412 still had that livery on it, the agusta 119 is also present in the mod, has the new livery as it was present on them during the era we've done.

There isn't much to beat, as modding is no competition. However, this new mod has more advanced functionalities and more time is put into the map compared to the latest version of the LA I made.

NYSP used a Bell UH-1 during our era, along with several other aircraft, since it is our represented medivac, we went with the UH-1 as the model for it.  I have no desire to do further aircraft models, the Bell Jetranger for example is much much older and was replaced by other aircraft in or about our era in which we chose to do.  The other aircraft used for medivac operations by the NYSP I frankly felt was pretty ugly (Bell 430).

Will the mod be compatible with Intel graphics?

It should be capable of being played on intel/amd integrated chipsets, our last benchmark with such cards it was playable.  We have to complete filling in the new map in order to verify this is still the case though before I can state this 100% as a fact.

With adding a comprehensive vehicle replacement package to make the vehicles have the look of NYC along with fully new buildings we have to balance the new content against performance.  My computer has switchable graphics along with an intel series 4600 so it will be tested with that again as a benchmark.  Our goal is to make it look and feel as much like NY as we can while balancing availability for most mainstream systems to be able to play it reasonably well.  Obviously higher end machines will get better performance, but we'd like to make sure that even lower end rigs can play the mod stable if we can possibly do that, we will.

At this point, can you tell us any more about what's planned for these?

We are keeping most of the gameplay changes to ourselves at this point, in essence the gameplay has changed to a progression format where you have to earn progressive challenges (mission types and their associated equipment).  More comprehensive (in-depth) missions along with the original style of mission types the game came with. We have made them to be more involved in some instances so you have to do more to complete the tasks.  The UI we are not showcasing at this time but that has changed drastically in how you access the vehicles.  We have added new functions to go with the new more involved mission types.  We are not going to list all of the changes at this time, we have some things we wanna keep to ourselves at this time.

Because I am too lazy to reinstall Fraps, I windowed my game, but here is some more of the content added to this mod.  In order to show it all I had to stay about the gameplay height to fit it all in as few images as possible.

Wow. I think I should quit modding now. So many civil cars. So many new vehicles. So many new scripts. You have put my vehicle pack (and pretty much everything I've ever done) to shame. YOU DA MASTER!! hands down.

Do all of the emergency vehicles in those pics have functions? I would like to see how the NYPD transport trucks work. I am very excited with all of the new features.

I think this will be the mod that closes the chapter of EM4 modding.

Some of the new civil vehicles I noticed:

  • Pontiac Firebird
  • Pontiac Aztec
  • Utilimaster food trucks
  • Lincoln Town Car normal and limo
  • Toyota Camry late 90's
  • Ford Mustang 1995
  • MCI bus
  • Open roof tour bus
  • Armored trucks
  • GMC RTS
  • Cadillac something from the 1980's
  • International 4000 delivery trucks, school buses, chassis, tanker
  • Dodge Caravan early 2000's
  • Mack garbage truck
  • Ford Escape 2006
  • Toyota Sienna 2005
  • Land Rover Discovery 1990's
  • Nissan Sentra early 2000's
  • Isuzu Canter delivery trucks, dump trucks

Maybe a collaboration of traffic cars could be possible? Let me know what you think.

None of the cars are pre-1998 (ish) that were added, the Camry is from 1999, which had a more squared body than the 1990's version ironically. the Mustang is closer to 2005 for it's date, it isnt quite as old as what you guessed, the older ones were again more round than the newer ones (go figure). the Cadillac is an El Dorado Touring Coupe from the 2000 era, the Land Rover is from around about 2000, I think it still looked that way in 1998 though, but I'm not sure about the Discovery's evolution. In america they call the Isuzu canter an NPR, but i think they are in essence the same vehicle.  The one you are confusing with the Nissan Sentra is probably the Pontiac Grand Prix. A few of the trucks are older style chassis, but it is very common in the US for trucks to persist for over 10-15 years before they get replaced, in custom chassis configurations some go even older than that.

All of the emergency vehicles added have some type of function associated with them, both Fire and Police wise.  Some are redundant to currently available vehicles, but most have some new function/feature they can do that other vehicles cannot (for the larger trucks).  Everything we added into this version we tried to give some special trait that would make you have a reason/necessity to pull it out, aside from just being eye-candy to look at.

As far as making a traffic car pack together I'll talk to you in PM about that for a later date perhaps.. Drop me a PM and we can discuss that for later.
