Solution to crash to desktop (After 2 seconds black screen)

Recommended Posts

I have been able to get the intro movies to start up, but I have yet to see the main menu before it crashes out. I have missed playing this game for so long and I want my kids to be able to play it too. Any help would be appreciated and thank you to all who have posted on this forum.

note: I have already tried updating codecs, running as administrator, use compatibility mode and editing the config

Please help me, my game crashes to desktop after 3 secs, during that time is a black screen.

This game played very well and I could run it while I had AMD Radeon HD 5450, as the GPU died I'm using Intel G33/G31 Chipset (GMA 3100) integrated graphics and Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 Ghz. And video drivers are latest, I've tried with codecs and it didn't help.

Hey Guys,

Well here we are in 2019 and I have started getting the same problem. I am playing on the game downloaded from steam and have played on it for years! never had any problems up until now.

All my drivers are up to date and running on windows 10.

Have attached my dxdial file, can anyone recommend anything else to try?

Currently Running:

Intel core I7-9700k CPU @ 3.60GHz

Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060

15.93GB RAM

1920 X 1080, 60Hz

For some, the solution may be to downgrade to older drivers because the latest ones may be too new for the game.

How do we do this?

There are various explanations on google. I don't know which one to give to you because everyone has different setups. In your case, you have an Intel GPU. I don't know much about them so you will have to make your own experimentation.

If you are not comfortable altering your PC in such a way, let's explore another possibility:

Another cause for the CTD is if you have video codecs that conflict with the game. Think: a recently installed video player or video editor. Another user recently had a crash because they installed a video player that conflicted with Em4.

I have no video players or editors, and I'm not really comfortable experimenting on my GPU as I'm not that good with computers. Thank you, though. Anyone found a solution yet?
